I loooove decorating bathrooms. It makes no sense, because the benefits are rarely reaped (except for last year’s bout with food poisoning, but that’s inappropriate to discuss in this forum). I think that’s why I love bathroom designs so much — they’re unexpected and often neglected spaces of the home. In fact, I tend to use as many non-bathroom furnishings as possible in my lavatories, just to make guests twitch. I’m surprising that way.

So naturally, my bathroom ideas are overflowing, (ha! pun!) and I’m absolutely thrilled to share them. We have two bathrooms: one for guests/future kids (not yet, Ma!) and one for ourselves, which happens to be bigger than my first Los Angeles apartment. I’m a lucky girl, indeed.

Care to see what I’ll be doing with each space? Here comes the style board for the master bath suite!

The above images are three of my favorite bathroom designs, mostly because they feature very nontraditional bathroom-y stuff, like designer chairs, barn doors and arm lamps. And because we’ll be building a customized cedar sauna (Husband’s request, believe it or not), I want to dress up the wood with a lot of white then add textural and sculptural elements. I know. I’m like a broken record. White, rustic, modern, Scandinavian. Stick a fork in me.

So here’s what I’ve come up with in terms of actual bathroom products:

All of the products above can be purchased at Kohler, with the exception of that lovely tile (which is from 360Flooring.com), the barn door and that crazy-modern-awesome dresser. I’ll never be able to afford such a unique piece, but watch for something similar in terms of baroque/modern style.

Now, for those of you who are coming to visit (which y’all are invited, FYI). This is my inspiration for your bathroom:

Sure, you don’t get a sauna, but (a) you can borrow ours, and (b) stop complaining. What you do get is the cutest shower curtain on the planet. I haven’t purchased it yet, because I’m sort of known for changing my mind on these things. But at the moment? At the moment I’m in love and can’t wait to display my vintage hand mirror collection next to this curtain:

Again, you’ll find a lot of these goodies are from Kohler, aside from the yummy Gus Modern Lamps I’d like to flank the bathroom mirror with.

So what do you think? Do you approve of my bathroom ideas? Am I missing anything? Fill me in on your thoughts in the comments below!

Erin! I'm so happy you're doing the chandelier in the guest bath because 1) I love it 2) I want to convince the husband to do the same in future-dream-home.

We're booking our tickets as soon as Chalet Loechner is open!

Love the crate storage for the guest bath. I'm a recent convert to hooks instead of towel bars – it somehow feels neater to me, probably because it doesn't require folding and careful hanging to look "right." Oh, and the wall-mounted faucet? Gorgeous.

Thank you so much! And Caroline, I know what you mean. Hooks always feel neater to me, too!
