In September, we gave Color of the Month status to the bright, beautiful persimmon. It seemed to perfectly epitomize the point between summer and fall and, oh, the delicious accessorizing possibilities! That choice took two meetings and lots of wrangling. Though by the end, it was obvious what the color should be.

For October, the choice was much easier. It was a color our team loved for September, which met all our rules except being available in stores. (Remember, our criteria for picking colors are: (a) it has to be seasonal (b) up-and-coming (c) and easy to find.)

But now it’s cresting in some of our favorite places, from Crate & Barrel to Horchow…even CB2 is getting in on the action (only they’re calling it swoon blue).

So what’s the color that represents October 2010? Peacock blue.

1. Ski Teal We Drop, OPI; 2. Oxford Twin Sleeper, Crate & Barrel; 3. Ocean Ikat, Horchow; 4. Leather Chair, Horchow; 5. Pillows, CB2; 6. Distant Views, Horchow

I love how it livens up chocolate, holds its own against chartreuse (our color pick for August) and sets off prints like Ikat or zebra stripe.

This is a seriously playful hue, the big sister of Pantone’s color of the year, turquoise. With a lineage like that, you can upholster a chair or sofa with it and trust it’ll look fresh for years to come. Or you can liven up your bigger pieces with pops of peacock blue. How about pillows on a bed done in this season’s It-Girl, gray? Or give a bathroom an 80s twist by pairing it with rosy pink.

Tell us what you’re loving in this color. Would you commit to larger furnishings in peacock, or stick with accessories, ready to rotate out with spring’s iris or olive? We can’t wait to hear!

  2. [...] October, we got lucky; consensus came quickly. We all fell for peacock, the turquoise’s big sister, which pairs perfectly with this season’s gray, dusty pink [...]

So the photo of OPI nail polish is copy written on another person's web page? How does that work?

  6. Lisa says:

I love this color, especially mixed with chartreuse.

As for the nail polish, I agree with tlareeves, OPI holds the copyright, silly.
