Who can forget that gorgeous Paul Smith pillow resting on Big and Carrie’s sofa in Sex And The City 2?

That simple yet elegant cushion is a prime example of a watercolor print, one of my favorite new trends. Watercolor prints look like they’ve been painted on the fabric (some may actually have been) and add a sense of artistry to a space that I love.

Bold, graphic textiles can easily go from sophisticated to kitschy. Balance their bright colors and soft lines with modern pieces to transform a space. Just be careful not to go overboard.

Used in bedding and throws, watercolor prints provide an understated and soothing elegance.

Often seen in floral motifs, these fabrics are the perfect way to give your space a touch of femininity. This rustic room takes on a little bit of charm with a floral print on an armchair.

In Sex and the City 2, Carrie and Big’s living room was decorated with hard edges and dark hues.

The watercolor pillow helped to soften those edges and created a feeling of fluidity. It also brought in the personal, and was the one stand-out piece that reminded us of Carrie’s girly-yet-daring design sensibility.

If you have a passion for all things modern like I do, but still want a space to feel like home, try a watercolor print. They make modern rooms feel warmer, more feminine and absolutely elegant.

The watercolors work but you have to be careful when using them, because you could go overboard and when you realize your house looks like you are stuck in the 80. But I am still saying that it works and it looks very feminine.

You are definitely right. Going overboard will make your space feel kitchy. I really think sticking to one or two watercolor pieces is perfect. Just enough to make a statement.
