Holiday season has arrived! Those of us hosting the Thanksgiving festivities this year know that there are many things that go into preparing for such an event. And what’s at the top of every holiday host’s checklist? The dinner table. Colorful, artful styling, like my sister does so well, can help you make your Thanksgiving feast a delight for all the senses.

My sister makes a grand production of her tabletop design for our family’s annual Thanksgiving feast. She starts planning months ahead of time, devising a color scheme and purchasing special linens. And her creation always inspires awe.

With a wide array of linens in colorful patterns available this year, it’s easy to take your holiday table from traditional brown and cream to a vibrant spread that will wow your guests.

Style At Home

Build up your color palette with a variety of fun accessories. Linens, like tablecloths and napkins, can be the perfect starting point, serving as a foundation for your colorful tablescape. Then incorporate napkin rings, salt and pepper shakers and glassware with pizazz.

To complete the look, bring in your favorite dishware. I always love the selection of bowls and plates at Anthropologie. A salad bowl or charger can be added to deepend the color story.

Finally, layer and have fun with it. My sister and I styled this tablescape for my store, AphroChic. We played with color and added pieces to make it pop. And while it doesn’t scream holiday (maybe the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy from The Nutcracker), it is definitely the kind of lively tabletop decor that guests are sure to love and remember.

Monique, I love the idea of a bold room. There are a few things you can do. Try going with a bold color choice like black or gray for the dining room walls. Keep everything else in the room a neutral palette, like a warm, wood table and white chairs to create a nice contrast. You can also decide to go with white walls and make the bold statement through your tabletop accessories, choosing linens that you can change out throughout the year. Good luck on your new home!
