I've received several handmade gifts from talented family members but the one person's gifts I treasure the most are my dad's. I can't say I love one more than another though. From the bed he, my grandfather & my uncle made me when I was two to the pine cabinet he made when I got married to the display case he made for my daughter's Christening gown……they are all loved and cherished beyond belief. Especially now that he has had a stroke and can no longer work on these kinds of projects. Blessed to have everything I do!

.The best handmade gift ever given to me & my daughter was when my mom gave us a kid’s rocking chair and made the cushions to go on it. It was made with care bear print fabric, and then she transferred pictures of the family to material, & also added them so that Lillian had pictures of us close by. I think the best gifts are made from the heart no matter what they look like. A friend just posted on FB that she kept these handmade gifts that us kids made when we were young, she said we had added them to the empty toilet paper roll decorated it with pictures and things, & they had string so that she could hang them. The crazy thing is the only one that didn’t fall apart was my oldest sisters who passed way when I was 14 years old I'm now 34 years old she detached the pictures from the remaining pieces and scanned the pictures to her computer. So I believe she truly cherished the silly gifts we made her when I was just a kid.

For Christmas two years before my father died, he made me a hanging quilt rack. He was a wonderful woodworker and took great pride in his work. Imagine my surprise when I opened that gift as well as a quilt made by his mother, my grandmother. He had begged my aunt for one to give with my prized quilt rack. Now that they are both gone, I have a piece of my family history as well as a gift truly from my father's heart. It meant more to me than he ever could have known.

My late mother-in-law once made us five pounds of her fabulous dried apples. Peeled, cored, chopped and set out to dry by hand, mind you! That's an immense amount of work. Somehow, she could get them to be dry on the outside and moist in the middle. I've never found anything to measure up.

  9. Nicole says:

An ornament made by me & my grandma when i was a little girl. She has long passed & i make sure it’s hung on the christmas tree every year.

  10. It was a hologram charm dinosaur necklace that my bff at the time gave me. We found the dinosaur charm at my pool and before she left, she somehow made it into a lilac ribbon necklace.

My daughters made a "50 reasons to celebrate Karen" box for me on my 50th birthday. Inside a homemade box were 50 slips of paper, each with a characteristic of mine, such as "always makes holidays special." Really made me cry.

My mother-in-law knitted my daughter baby booties incorporating our wedding colors and ribbon from our wedding invitations as ties. I both love and treasure them.

In kindergarten the children were making ceramic ashtrays for Mothers' Day( that was the time when smoking was good for you) and my daughter spoke up and said ' My Mommy doesn't smoke.' The teacher was taken aback and insisted that she make one anyway. My daughter then said, :No, I'll make her a dish" She took the simple shape and on the rim poked holes in it all around with the end of a pencil of which she had pulled off the eraser and used the metal ferulle . She was very proud of her creation. I was proud (still am ) of her for standing up for herself. I still have and use the little dish to hold my rings and things. It was along time ago, but it still brings a smile to my face and warmth to my heart when I use it.

  31. Kimberly says:

The best handmade gift I’ve received has to be the valentines day card my husband made for me this year…a recreation of how we said our first “I love you”…macaroni and all.

  32. Nikki E says:

my step-son made me a mother's day gift welcoming me as "mom." I still have it!
