What is the fascination with the skull as a decorating object? (Remember the Alexander McQueen skull-scarf that wrapped every celebutante for the last few years?) Now skulls are finding their way onto the products of the most luxurious decor brands and fashion houses.

DL & Co., the finest purveyor of luxury candles, has debuted their Delft line of skull stationary, plates, note cards and and journals. This is truly a chic gift for anyone with an edge. Large and small, this gold embossed journal is sure to please.

The Delft Skull Stationary, consisting of a set of 12 Italian Die-Cut, gold and silver embossed note cards, is on my wish-list this season.

Damien Hirst’s For-the-Love-of-God is a platinum cast of a human skull covered with 8,601 diamonds. (sSee it at Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, Italy, through May 1, 2011.) The piece sold for $122 million, a record price for work by a living artist, proving that skulls are still hot. Even an 18th century one, such as this.

And if you prefer to wear your skulls rather than decorate with them, the Alexander McQueen Skull-Print Chiffon Scarf has been re-issued in ivory and black. Which to choose? I’m leaning toward the black, but of course it’s sold out until February. Get your orders in now!
