Design Happens fans love all things interior design. So, what could be more perfect for this week’s Freebie than a piece of art that matches our passion.

Florida artist Anne Harwell’s blog, Annechovie, is a must-read around the office. And her bright prints, available in the Annechovie Etsy shop, are popping up all over the web and in shelter magazines. (Even her orange chair print has made it big. Look for it over Meryl Streep’s shoulder in a scene from the movie It’s Complicated.) Anne wants a Design Happens reader to take home her Blue and White Ginger Jar print. Enter to win by answering this week’s question before 12/11c Monday, January 10.

This week’s question: What would you commission Anne Harwell to paint for your home? A beloved pet? A favorite piece of furniture?

What a fun question! Would love to commission a painting of my family – it would be interesting to see how we would all be captured in her vivid colors.

  4. Kale T says:

My husband and I didn't get to go on a honeymoon until four years after we were married, but it was worth the wait when we arrived in Italy. It was so inspiring to be engulfed in the culture. If Annie could paint for me, I would ask her for scene on small bridge over a canal in Venice or a view of the rolling vistas we repeatedly saw while on the train traveling through Tuscany. So many great memories associated with these!

  5. Janet says:

I too love the blue and white ginger jar. My living room is yellow and white with blue accents. This painting would look great there. I would commission Anne to paint sunflowers for my kitchen/dining room or a quilt collage for my bedroom.

  6. Mary Snyder says:

I would love a painting of my dog, Biscuit!

  7. pebblesbbrown says:

I would like her to paint a picture of Detroit Masonic Temple–it is a lovely historic building that was finished around the depression. You can't believe what an incredible place it is. This would look great in my husband's man room, and it is one of his favorite buildings in Detroit–it holds lots of memories. He would be thrilled to receive it. We have some photographs, but they do not hold the same magic as an artist's rendering.

I must say the ginger gar picture is beautiful, though, and I would be very happy to receive it as well!

    Thanks!

  15. Joyce Kearns says:

My "design in progress" project is the guest room which I plan to paint navy blue…Of course this painting would look gorgeous in the space but, I would love the bedroom set to be painted. It's an old "pinecone" style twinbed, dresser and mirror. I inherited it from family but the finish is really rough. I would love to see the headboard and the drawer fronts painted like this ginger jar….but, this is far too ambitious a project for me. Can you help me Anne? thanks

  16. Liz Cochrane says:

My request to commission Anne Harwell to paint a picture of my pet Cocker Spaniel dog holding her food dish in her mouth. My dog is a beautiful buff colored cocker spaniel with dark brown eyes and gets her food dish on command and whenever she is hungry (which is quite often). I think a beautiful brown eyed cocker spaniel dog with curly ears and would make an adorable picture. Her art is fabulous!

  17. J. Battles says:

My dog, Angie, so that she will be around forever.

  22. Diana B. says:

Beautiful! I would love for her to paint my own blue and white ginger jar as a complement to this one.

  23. I love the print! If she were doing a commission just for me, I'd ask her to draw my beautiful sheltie, Roslin…preferably in the midst of one of her destructive binges that constantly threaten my house. :)

  24. suz says:

I'd her paint her version or idea of seattle; my boyfriend is moving from seattle to new jersey and I know he really loved living in seattle so I know he'd really appreciate a painting of a place i know he really enjoyed.

  25. Wrennie Warren says:

How beautiful is the Annechovie's blue and ginger jar, and how an artist has the patience and talent to create such a piece is beyond me. If I had the opportunity to commission a piece, it would be an apple since I live in Washington state, I teach in a public middle school, and my husband and I have apple trees on our property.

  26. MinPinLady says:

Smiles, something, someone, anything that will make you smile… :)

HER GINGER JAR GRABBED MY ATTENTION TODAY! SO STRESSED OVER NOT BEING ABLE TO GET MY MOTHER'S POSSESSIONS DUE TO A CONTESTED DIVORCE! SHE COLLECTS BLUE & WHITE PORCELAIN PIECES. I BOUGHT HER A SET OF BEAUTIFUL PRINTS ( BLUE & WHITE). SHE IS CONCERNED SHE WON'T GET THIS RESOLVED BEFORE SHE PASSES(81). I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THIS PIECE TO PAIR WITH SOMETHING COMPLIMENTORY. Would love to hang this print with pieces my mother did…since it was my mom (who I miss greatly) who started my passion with ginger jars and all things blue and white!

A picture of my jade plant.

  36. Sharon says:

    My daughter with our lab.

  37. Robin Jansma says:

I would love a painting of our three rescue dogs. They are all so loving, giving, and just plain good looking, that a portrait would be remarkable hung above our fire place. You will find all of them vieing for their spot in front on their hearth rugs. Winston the eldest is a pug and he really believes the fireplace was put their for him. The other two, Sampson a toy fox terrier, poodle mix and BabyGirl our shitzapoo and mother to all are lucky to be allowed to visit. They are really quite the group.

I would have her draw the new home im in the process of buying with my grandsons sitting on the front porch with a beautiful butterfly lingering about, because my granddaughter isnt born yet but i call her my butterfly because in one of her ultrasound pics it looks like a butterfly. It would mean so much to me and my family.

  40. Janice says:

Oh easy peasy! The chapel at Rancho Camulos in Southern California. My grandmother's childhood home and the last of our family to live at this historic hacienda.

  41. lsstag says:

This would go perfect in my dining room. I would love to have her paint the irises that grow wild here in the swamps of south Louisiana.

  42. deadtiredmom says:

I love the bright colors of the vase print.. Years ago I found a metal sideboard in the alley and dragged it home.
The metal sideboard has a woodframed top that is painted "plain black".

For years, I've wanted something painted on the top of the sideboard, but, I'm not talented. I'd love to have Anne paint a fabulous design on this found piece of furniture that has made it's home in ours. It's just plain boring!!!!! Please….help it!!!

  43. iMaryE says:

From viewing the beautiful print above, I believe a tiny tea cup with saucer would be perfect for her to paint. It would seem that her eyes and artistic mind would convey a lovely design on such delicate and precious articles. Something to place in a glassed shelf for all to view and "aw" over.

  44. Gabriela K. says:

I would have her paint an antique tea set that has been in my family for many generations.

  45. Mary Ellen Ragsdale says:

I would ask her to please paint a picture of my beautiful daughter Ellen Anne. I miss her so bad all the time & especially during the Christmas season. She was & is the sunshine of my life. Anne was killed in an automobile accident when she had just turned 21. It happened Dec. 22, 1985 & her funeral was on Christmas Eve. Have always wanted a nice painting of her to hang in my home. I have a 8" X 10" photo of her that I love. Have never been able to afford a painting of her. Anne has been missed every minute of every day since this happened & this left a huge hole in my heart that has never healed. I have pancreatic cancer now & am told that I will be able to see her again soon which is wonderful. I have one other child, a son Walt. I don't have very much to leave him. He & his sister were so very close & he has always carried her in his thoughts & in his heart. This would be one of the very best things I could ever have to enjoy myself now & to be able to leave to my son Walt when I am gone.

  46. Mary Ellen Ragsdale says:

    continued from above post:
I do have a ginger jar that looks almost exactly like this one in the painting. They would be gorgeous displayed together some place in my home. I love the beauty & serene feeling that these colors give me too. Love Chinese art of any kind. Thank you for this time & this space to share my feelings. Needed this as much as anything.

  47. Susan Neto says:

I would ask for a painting of my English Bulldog and cats!

  48. Lauren says:

I would love to have a vase of flowers for my family room or a painting of my living room! Love her paintings!!

  49. marilyn says:

Love the beautiful shape, plus the design of blue and white …

  50. Duenhoft says:

I would commission her to do a painting of the house I grew up in. My Mom passed away last year and as a result we had to sell it. After 41 years in our family and my parents had it built…it was the house that built me.
    Just like the song!
