    Hmm. How about a tool for predicting the length of day or night? You might shine a light on the mirror and then tip the "earth" accordingly. Oh, boy. This might be a stretch! :-)

    Does it determine what kind of moon phase will be on the horizon? I know they planted "by the moon" and this looks like it has some sort of mirror in the back to create the moons' shawdow…Gosh, just a guess. Shar

    I think it's some type of device used to calculate the phases of the moon as well as the length of sunshine hours, so that crops might be planted and harvested in a timely manner.
