For the first episode of Design Star Dan Faires’ online show, DanMade, he shows how to create a high-end upholstered headboard without breaking the bank.

All you need: plywood, a painter’s canvas and some carpet tacks.
Get the step-by-step instructions. Also, check in next Monday for another DanMade project.

OK..Dan made it seem so easy and being an avid flicker between DIY and HGTV on a daily basis, I'm an avid, picky viewer. This headboard goes with most design styles, be it traditional, transitional or contemporary. Swap out the fabric color to suit yourself and you've got a winner. But there is a tendency for HGTV to push the real estate side. Nice to see a design star you can believe in and who is relevant.
I agree with everyone else. Less real estate shows and more decorating.
Sarah"s House is my favorite, her design ideas and salvage projects are great1 HGTV needs more decorating
ideas than the same House Hunters etc. Would also like to see NEW Candace Olson and David Bromstead instead of reruns that are on constantly!
Beautiful….how simple and Dan explains everything you need to do. Give this guy his own TV SHOW…I bet someone's going to grab him soon!
So what does HGTV have to say about ALL of these comments……..??????????? Are you a real estate channel or are you about homes, decorating and gardening????
[...] Still not sure about a headboard, as well. Maybe we’ll craft a refined rustic headboard like sweet [...]
So tell me again why Dan didn't win his own show……? He's great so correct your mistake by giving him a show now in the evenings. I know I'm not saying anything new here but it is so frustrating to turn on the TV in the evening after a long work day just to see the same Real Estate programs night after night. Time for a change!!
I have to agree with the majority..I use to watch HGTV every day for so many years..now I am sick of .bang for your buck, selling houses, ect. want more decorating ideas especially on a budget,,,This is what made HGTV ! not the rest of this….
Whatever happened to the "G" in HGTV? You know the gardening shows. Please start showing them again
Too many house hunter shows , I already own one of those ! Now bring back the shows that show me how to make my home pretty !
Though I enjoy watching House Hunters and House Hunters International (I love to see how the world lives), enough is enough! Selling New York is boring! If HGTV insists on House Hunting type shows, why don't they start a new show and take us back to some of the sites where the new home owners have renovated their new homes? Show us how they do it and the end results–especially the decorating parts. And whatever happened to Clive Pearce? I never see him anymore and I miss him–especially on the last Design Star!
Love Love Love this design. We are planning a move soon & I'll be updating our bedroom & this is perfect. I'll be trying Dan's instructions very soon. I look forward to more of Dan's designs. He's amazing
Glad to know I am not alone in my disappointment with HGTV programming . Bring back Shari Hillyer and Matt, the shows that decorated a room for $1000 And where is Danielle from the old Color Splash,
she should have her own show. Will not watch David in Miami – Curb Appeal still a great show because it inspires people to try stuff on their own.
If u have Create that is 242 on Comcast that where you will find Shari Hillyer and Matt. It a 24 hour a day. there will re-show show you have miss when at work. Shari Hillyer and Matt are on Tuesdays on Create.
I agree Glenda. It was becoming HHTV (House Hunters TV)
Looking forward to fresh faces and new ideas as well.
Amen to everyone who is sick of watching people buy and sell houses. What happened to all the Design Stars? Love David Bromstad but want to see more of the others. They are going to lose all their viewers if they continue with current programming.
And I will second that Amen!! I too am tired of all that selling and buying stuff. I remember when HGTV first came on and it was about practical and affordable decorating. Where did it all go? Could it be that you got "caught up in all the glitz of show biz" syndrome?
This DanMade episodes look very practical. And I love the rustic look of stuff, so not into modern, contemporary designs.
I so need a headboard and this one will be perfect! I cannot wait to make one for myself! Thank you Dan! Awesome job!
DItto Ditto Ditto lToo much house hunters at night and not enough decorating shows for those of us who watch HGTV at night. Some shows on re-purposing furniture, updating kitchens and bathrooms without tearing everything out and starting over would be helpful. Love Sarah's House, Divine Design and Color Splash
This is a good reminder to make sure your mattress is cleaned routinely.

Hope HGTV goes way, way back to their roots……before they became GLAAD.
We need HGTV to go back to the reason I got cable TV and that was to watch Quilting shows, Craft shows and Decorating shows like Decorating With STyle , Country AT HOME, Carrol Deval, and Simply Quilts, this house hunting and remodeling stuff was not why us women started watching HGTV.
H is for home
G is for Garden
T is for think yes
V is for very good
that is HGTV
NOW here what u are
H is for home
T is for to rethink line up
V is for very bad picks of show you have on
I hate that you have design star and don't give the winners there place to show what they can do. You just throw them off the air after a few shows they do. I stopped tuning in because you took all the design and gardening show off for more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more home selling show that are getting old because you show them over and over and over and over day in and day out. I now tune in to Create on 242 that Comcast has. The Big People at the top need to lean to there fans and not just them self at all. It time to get out of the dark and in to the light. Go back to what the fans want and need in to day world.
Another design star and can't wait. I have watched it since the beginning with David and the only one I disagreed with was Antonio. I thought Dan should have won it. But since I have watched Antonio's show and realized what I didn't see. What a talented man! I can't say (being almost 70) that I would want him to do a room for me, but my kids or grandkids would love it. He also surrounds himself with such talented people, what a crew! So I had to write and say keep up the good work and I'll be watching.
