This is an easy project I have done this my self and I love the results, don't be afraid to try new things you are going to want to do all of your beds in one day.

SEXY video on so many levels!

  4. denise brock says:

i have begun to tune away from hgtv. every time i tune in, there in a show about selling you house. do your producers think that's all there is going on in the world! hgtv became popular with true decorating shows. they are few and far between on this channel. such a shame. it seems selling your house is more important than taking care of the one you have.

    • Amy says:

Denise, I completely agree. I have said as much and more on HGTV's FB page. They are deaf. I don't think they care. Most of the new/different shows on Sat and Sun come from the DIY network. I have a home I am not selling, I can't afford to move overseas and don't care about House Hunters AT ALL! I would like more design shows too. Maybe someday they will listen to us, until then, no HGTV for me. Sad.

    • Kate says:

I feel the same way, I used to watch it for decorating idea's, now everytime I turn it on it's either Property Virgins, House Hunters or Selling NY. They need to have more Candice, Gen, David and Vern.

    • Lynn says:

I agree. Basic, affordable (not cheap) decorating shows are lacking.

    • Mercedes says:

I too agree with the rest of bloggers, where are the nice shows you use to have? I myself have also turned away from HGTV because of the selling shows. Also that guy that goes in to finish the repairs somone messed up, come on guys, enough is enough!! BRING BACK THE DECORATING SHOWS and you will get more ratings!

    • AlH says:

I feel the same way! It seems that Saturday is the only day where there are that you can learn something!

    • Jackie says:

right on denise. Bring back Kenneth Brown, Rate My Space to name two. I get really sick with those spoiled brats that need a 10 acre backyard! And bring David back to California.

    • Emily says:

Denise you are so right. I feel the same way. I am not in the market to buy or sell a home but I am interested in decorating the home I have. I use to love the decorating shows that were budget friendly. What happen to those????

    • Kimberly says:

You know it, Denise! I flip through the channels each night wondering what I might catch on HGTV and usually find HOUSE HUNTERS! Ugghhh! Why do we really care what home someone else is going to choose?!? I want to know how I can make small, but meaningful design/decorating changes in my own AWESOME home. I love Candice and haven't seen her new show yet. Come on, HGTV, find a way to get back to your roots and the core audience who made you so popular over the last decade!

    • kaylout says:

I think you might be right, Denise. I miss "Hidden Potential" which merged house hunting with home decorating/renovations… I've noticed that I don't watch HGTV as much as I used to, and I think you might have hit exactly why that is… wow…

    • heather says:

I agree 110%. People tuned in for Decorating. Especially on a budget. Great past shows that can't be found include copying a high end room for a fraction of the cost. Those 2 dumpster divers that made something wonderful from something left on the curve. Helping us decorate and think outside the box. The shows that decorated rooms for $50, $500 or $1000. Realistic budget for everyone. I know I used to watch all the time but now there is rarely anything on in Prime time or late. Those of us who work during the day also enjoy decorating. HGTV listen to your viewers and cut back to 1 hr a week for buying homes for the few who are interested. Go back to what made us watch in the first place. It is not seeing someone spending 90,000 on decorating to see how much more they can sell the house for nor buying homes. It is decorating with realistic budgets or no budget at all. Dan show goes back to what people want but then you have to go to online. Listen HGTV producersput these type of shows back of HGTV or continue to loose your viewers. Those with the big bucks hire designers and don't watch the shows.

  5. @ChicModern says:

Dan is my new friend I love this headboard, and I agree with Sarah sexy video.

  6. Jeanette says:

Are you kidding Denise. I love tuning in to hgtv when House Hunter, House Hunter International and Selling New York is on. It blows my mind how much the prices vary from state to state for a similar type home. It makes me feel fortunate that I live in a city where even young couples can afford a nice home.

  7. Mike says:

I would agree with Denise… this type of stuff is what made HGTV so fun to watch. I only wish I got the DIY network on cable, but I don't. Seems like all there is on HGTV anymore is buying and selling homes. Don't get me wrong when I was buying a home it was great. Now that I own a home, I want ideas and videos like this!

    • HGTV_Kelley says:

I love this headboard project, too. Have you watched Sarah's House ?http://www.hgtv.com/sarahs-house/show/index.html It's a must-see-TV for us decorating editors — and Tommy is a hoot! Also, stay tuned for Emily Henderson's new show, Secrets From a Stylist, which airs 2/26. I've been looking at behind-the-scenes pics and…awesomecakes with awesomesauce!

  8. Dr Grenaudo, PhD says:

Dan is going to take over the whole HGTV network and return it back to it's roots one stalk at a time

  9. Jacqueline Cooke says:

Easy Project with a big impact – I've done this before and it really is as easy as Dan makes it seem. He had some great tips though which I hadn't seen before so I've learned something new today. Looking forward to seeing Dan on HGTV soon.

  10. Kim Houston says:

I thought I was the only one! Miss all the decorating shows so much!!! Enjoy House Hunters but it's not what makes HGTV… Bring back DECORATING!

  11. Leslie Joliet says:

Loved this headboard! Thanks for including both the video and the written instructions. Both were very helpful. I read the instructions first but then watched the video and it made it very clear how to make the headboard. I've been looking for something like this for my bedroom.

  12. J. Fornell says:

Why in the world is HGTV going away from what it made it a hit!! NOT selling homes or real estate but decorating and how to do it from painting walls to furniture, making headboards to furniture??? Please enough of your marathons on selling NEW YORK not too many people millions of dollars so why do I want to watch crying real estate agents cause they can't sell a 3 million dollar apartment!!! Then on top of it your changing great shows that were winners and it's not as good as it was! Like Color Splash and Divine Design !!! Very disappointed!

    • L. Williams says:

I am with you J. Fornell! What have they done to David and Candice! Arrrgh! Although I am thrilled to see Dan have an online show, he needs to have a regular show too! Yay Dan!

  13. Julie says:

Nicely shot! My guess; A Canon 7D was used. and yep, Dan is nice on the eyes. Hope his next project is a little more original.

  14. Carol says:

I agree with the above posts that there is TOO MUCH house selling on HGTV anymore. Fewer people are in the housing market than ever before, and yet we're inundated with these shows! How about more of Candice Olson and David Bromstad-type shows!

  15. Melanie says:

Wow. I'm glad to hear the same sentiments I've had lately about HGTV. I'm in interior design school and just love shows that fuel my imagination and inspire me! Please, please, HGTV go back to the original format with decorating and how-to shows. I'm am truly sick of House Hunters, House Hunters International, Selling New York, etc….

    • Laura says:

TOTALLY agree with you. I would absolutely love to see more of Sara's House, Divine D. , Design Remix (remember that one?), color splash, of course! etc….whatever that has disign/ decorating/inspiring ideas.

  16. The show I loved was the one where they replicated a high priced look for a fraction of the cost, and often, the more reasonably priced room was nicer to look at and probably easier for daily living. I, too, am tired of real estate virgins and house hunters! I want to see makeovers and even some start from scratch rooms! I'd love to see things on a realistic budget as well!

    • Janet Landers says:

I am constantly looking for design inspiration with a budget. I truly loved this creative show which copied a designer's room for a fraction of the cost, and share your interest!

    • Cheryl Byrd says:

I agree with Johnna and so many others.. bring back the design shows. I liked the one about just rearranging furniture (free design?) I loved the one about replicating the high end rooms, there was a favorite one where $50 plus what the homeowners already had were made into a really neat room. Where is all the imagination at HGTV gone? It must be cheaper to shoot the homes for sale shows, but come on HGTV, give the people what we want.
      Cheryl Byrd

  17. HGTVlover says:

HGTV are you listening?????? DItto times 1,000 for all the above comments regarding wanting to see DESIGN shows on the network. I do believe more watchers already own homes than those who are house hunting. And us owners need DESIGN advice and ideas!

    • Patricia says:

I am glad there are others out there feeling the same way about HGTV. And we need design shows that don't spend a bucket of money such as Candace Olsen and lately David Bromstad. Decorating Cents and Design on a Dime are more realistic choices for the average home owner.

  18. Connie Cavender says:

I am with most of the group….HGTV at one time was about all I watched, until they got away from the design advice and ideas. All those house hunting shows are not for me, so I turn off the channel.

  19. alisa sher says:

Finally something useful from HGTV. Something that inspires to create, define, repurpose, useful, all on a budget. Please HGTV no more real estate shows. That is so yesterday. We need more shows that help inspire us to define our spaces that are useful, and enjoyable. So much more talent out there. HGTV just needs to be creative and find those individuals. They are taking the easy way out by placing useless programming on. I don't give a crap about who moves where and how much they paid for their home. Might as well start calling it the Real Estate Channel.

  20. Loved the video and Dan was very good with his explanation. I will be using this to help my daughter in law make her headboard! Thank you! Hope to see lots more of these!

  21. Donna says:

I agree with what people are trying to say "HGTV PLEASE BRING BACK MORE DECORATING AND DESIGN SHOWS!!!!" That's what made HGVT so great. I love Candace Olson's show Divine Design (my favorite), Sarah's House, Color Splash, The Antonio Treatment, and that crazy Ausi Jamie Durie just to mention a few. They are all full of great design and creative ideas. Some more battle on the block also would also be fun!

  22. just me says:

I agree with a previous poster. I loved the show that had the designer take a magazine picture of a room that cost well over $10,000 to design and make a room that cost around $1,000. That is what I want back. I also love "design on a dime". They show you how to decorate/design on a budget.

  23. molly says:

Loved this guy on Design Star! I'm a DIY'er and love the shows that make it practical, like Sarah's House for instance. I agree with the sentiment here. I am tired of all the House Hunters! I might like one an evening, but I just don't turn it on at night because that's ALL there is to see.

  24. Mimi says:

The new design on a dime team is awful. What happened to the red haired lady? She was great.

  25. Jennifer says:

Nice video, cool project – give Dan a design show! I agree with so many of the previous posters – PLEASE bring back more design shows. So tired of Real Estate shows in prime time – we want DESIGN!

  26. Glenda Baird says:

HGTV – Enough of House Hunters, House Hunters International and Selling New York already! Ready for new faces and ideas on decorating.

  27. Sherri says:

These are the types of shows that I enjoy most about HGTV. We will always be fixing up things or redecorating…but we are not buying a new home EVERY day. HGTV needs more programs like this.

  28. I totally agree that there is far too much selling/buying houses on HGTV! I suspect making those show is more "cost effective" then doing make over and decorating shows – but they will lose that benefit if we aren't watching. More and more I am watching Netflix or my own DVDs during the times I WAS watching HGTV.

  29. Pam says:

HGTV, are you listening to these comments??? I'm sure House Hunters is ALOT cheaper for you—BUT I prefer redecorating, Gardening and landscaping would be really appreciated!

  30. Pat Angeley says:

This was a great video. Miss this type of Decorating. Something the average person, homeowner or renter can do. So many can't buy homes now and need to make the place they live better. Need more of Dan type programs!! I too loved watching the house hunter programs, but am over that and ready for more decorating, PLEASE!!!

  31. Bethemrob29@aol.com says:

Bring back the decorating and rehab shows – no one is selling or buying High End houses unless you are incredibily wealthy and the average viewer is not!!!!

  32. judi says:

Awesome headboard! Going to to have to make one for my daughters room. Dan is the "Awesome Design & Decorating Man" Love, love, love the inspiration he provided during Design Star. Thank you so very much for all you share with us Dan! As a female I sincerely appreciate your soft spoken nature. The loud, overbearing, borderline rude hosting tactics I find extremely annoying. Speaking of turn-offs that's exactly what I have been doing to the television channel since HGTV became the REAL ESTATE SALES CHANNEL.

  33. Stacie says:

WE NEED MORE DAN ON HGTV, PRONTO!

  34. Sarah says:

This is so awesome. I am in awe of his design style. HGTV needs more of this "hip" design aesthetic to appeal to the young "in" crowd. I agree with all these other people. Give him his own show!!!

  35. Bev says:

Totally agree with above posting, along with 'Pure Design'. Who cares about 24 hour programming about a $1000 redux? This is the the 'Staging' channel! Please bring back designing both Home and Gardens!

  36. Rebecca says:

Hey Dan ~ glad your finally back ! Loved your headboard idea, I will
be trying this for our guest room.
You are good at keeping projects in the area of the basic home do'er.
Looking for ward to More DanMade !!!

  37. densal says:

I also agree with the majority and am only taking the time to say so because I hope someone at HGTV is reading this. My friends and I can't afford to sell our homes now or in near future, so we are trying to make what we have work for us. We need ideas and only seem to get that on DIY network. Come on HGTV. Seriously, the average person doesn't have $65,000 to remodel a kitchen or bathroom or basement. I vote for more ideas to fit the times we currently live in and less home selling shows when every news reports shows houses aren't moving.

  38. guest says:

Give Dan a show on HGTV. He is a natural with great ideas and teaches you how to do what he does…a rare find. You're missing the boat if you don't grab him up…..someone will. I guarantee your ratings would go up. Listen to your viewers. They know and are expressing what they'd like to see more of. I agree 100% go back to design and how to's for your audience.

  39. Brenda says:

I have to agree with the majority here. The decorating shows are what I loved about HGTV. I miss watching them. A few House Hunters are okay, but it seems as if that is all that is on now. Candice, Vern, Genevieve, David, and the rest made watching HGTV fun. I also like John Giddings show Curb Appeal, the Block and Mike Holmes shows. Schedule something other than shows about purchasing real estate!

  40. ROBERTA COX says:

I think the fans have spoken! Hope HGTV is listening! If nothing else, they could replay some of the GOOD shows they have during the day. I was sick a couple of days and discovered all the decorating, etc. shows are on during daytime. We get stuck with hours and hours of House Hunters! And for variety? International House hunters! Blah! Boring! It is suppose to be HOME and GARDEN….not REAL ESTATE INC. Get back to the subject, editors!

  41. Cameron says:

My favorite comment is the first: Sexy video! So true and I could watch Danmade all day. I mean seriously, those eyes, him cutting the wood with a circular saw. Phew. I almost forgot to breath. He's a total hottie.

  42. ProudArmyMom says:

HGTV, would you please let an American designer do a take on SARAH'S HOUSE? I love Sarah Richardson but cannot fathom her budgeting. Two houses designed. Two houses overbudgeted. In this recession, with money so tight, how could someone remodel their home for less. Similar to THE AMERICAN HANDYMAN, a copy of the Candadian show, please consider this request? A push for Monica Pedersen, Lisa from DESIGN TO SELL, John Giddling, or Genevie Gordier (sorry for misspellings). No David Bromstad with the new COLOR SPLASH.

Also, can you make more THE ANTONIO TREATMENTS? And return Kim Myles to the air.

  43. cece at home says:

i have to agree! i pretty much have stopped watching,i dislike the whinney house hunters that want so much! (ie) kids need own room, need to have more than one bath, how about a gormmet kitchen? maybe i am being petty. we raised 4 kids in 1300/sq.ft, 1bath ,awful, awful kitchen and are still remodeling after 29 yrs, have run out of energy and money is really hard to come by. so, please go back to the base, reasonabley priced design!

  44. Regina says:

By the way, HGTV Canada has more design shows that we do not get here in the USA. If you go to the Canada website you'll see. Too bad we can't watch online!

  45. own_pobox says:

I think Candice Olson should do some work on United States, Specially New England, Providence RI to be more specific

  46. fur1nfeathers2 says:

I couldn't agree more with all the posts about the buying and selling programs versus true home decorating! I was a dedicated fan of HGTV and, in fact, would have it on all day while I was doing my own projects. But now, I either record the few dec programs they have or just change channels when yet another buy/sell program comes on.
Please, HGTV, please get back to Home and Garden Television and thanks for the few shows you do still have!

  47. Nathan Fruendt says:

I love that HGTV dose Design Star. But it time to bring all the winners back and give them there design shows that they have one. Most of the winners have never got there 15 min on T.V. Only two winner had there own show. I hope the men and women at the top bring all the old design shows back and with some new one to. The home show are not showing what real happen to real people that are out there and they feel like they only go to the home own that has done this a few time. I just hate that HGTV dose not show what a first time byer should know or how to ask for what they want. If you are going to show only home sell shows u should change the name of HGTV to Home TV. You need to look at HGTV again and see that it mean HOME and GARDEN TV and not just selling homes. If you don't change the line up any time soon a lot of your viwers will get DIY NETWORK and turn HGTV off for good. Bring back your old design shows. I just which all the time because I want to be a desinger and now HGTV has turn that off for me. Get a clue on what your viwers want to see down the road

  48. @FaVeCalGirl says:

As the HGTV Bring Dan Back Spokesperson, ok, not really but, I definitely am part of the club I am beyond thrilled to see the series. The headboard is awesome. He makes things look easy and explains how to do them on your level. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure it out. Now take over that truck, come to California and makeover my house. :-)

  49. Gretta says:

Agree with above comments!!! Bring back design shows.!!! Selling New York needs to go way. I love the shows that show you how to design on budget.

  50. POP Designer says:

Good concept and cost efficient but the toxic spray mount will off-gas when the room heats. Hopefully, DYI designers don't place their headboard above a baseboard or near a forced-air vent if using this VOC product.
    TSK-TSK!
