Design Happens

As I stepped through the doors at Maison & Objet I was almost overwhelmed by the endless halls of incredible delights that spread out before me. It’s such an inspiring place for those of us who love design—new trends and beautiful ideas are around every corner.

I was particularly struck by the changes in tabletop, which is moving from casual fare to pieces that make each day amazing.

Content and Container Tableware

I met with Content and Container, who use the old-world tradition to craft their awe-inspiring porcelain. Their designer Pia Pasalk creates pieces that express “the extra in the ordinary.” Her tableware celebrates the beauty of the imperfect—dented and broken pieces of porcelain become a work of art.

The Richard Ginori company has been manufacturing porcelain since 1735. Today, designer Paola Navone reinvents china with a mix of classic manufacturing and modern sensibility.

I am absolutely in love with her Prova Prima collection. It’s artsy and luxe all at once—like bringing Pantone swatches directly to your dinner table!

French company Ibride has always been a favorite of mine. Their pieces have such a romantic feel. These melamine Red Ming and Yuan Plates are absolutely elegant.
