Attention all guidos and guidettes: Season 4 of MTV’s mega-popular Jersey Shore will take place in Italy. Italians and Italian-Americans alike are fuming over MTV’s decision to send the party-hardy cast to their supposed Motherland. But we at Design Happens are happy for Snooki and her tanned-and-gelled crew. Maybe, just maybe, after soaking up Italy’s classical architecture, inspiring design and century-old artisan traditions, the kids will aspire to upgrade their Seaside, NJ digs.
Do you think there’s hope? I searched high and low for the best in Italian and Tuscan design from HGTV.com’s Designers’ Portfolio for a glimpse of what a Jersey Shore home makeover might look like upon their return to our fair country.
Jersey Standard: The Dining Room
Italian Update: If you thought the cast’s Sunday “family dinners” were awesome, imagine them taking place in this outdoor kitchen (complete with pizza oven) a la Jamie Durie.
Jersey Standard: The Hot Tub
Italian Update: The hot tub is such a central part of this show, it’s practically a cast member. Scenes could be steamy and serene in this classed up setting by Scott Cohen.
Jersey Standard: The Shore Shack
Italian Update: The Italian flag garage is quaint, but this fountain entrance by Shirley Bovshow says “ciao” with style.
Jersey Standard: Living Room
Italian Update: Wood paneling and giant sunset posters won’t cut it in Milan or Rome. Designer Chris Barret does classical Italian design right in this glamorous living room we can only hope they would appreciate.

We'll have to watch season 4 to find out! Maybe they'll meet some high-class models in the club to teach them about the finer things.
It will be fun to see what they think of Italy and vice versa.
