My favorite "recent" Valentines day was the first one with my husband. He brought me a dozen roses, a box of candy, a Teddy Bear, and took me to dinner. He totally surprised me.

I believe that this year will be my best Valentine's day ever. My daughter and I are alone for the holiday this year. And it's the first time I've been without a male counterpart on Valentine's since I was in high school. But this year I realize that my daughter is my true Valentine, and always has been. We're very close, and have been through a lot together. I intend to make the holiday very special for her this year!!

My best Valentine's Day ever: February 14, 1987. The day I walked down the aisle to marry my best friend.

  4. Robin Mayer says:

My best Valentine's Day was 20 years ago (this year) when I married my wonderful husband! The wedding was all roses, candles and the college string quartet…just beautiful! Since then we have two wonderful "teenagers" and though my husband developed severe health issues in the past 7 years, he is still as sweet and generous as always – everyone else comes first! Truth be known….I'd marry him all over again in a heartbeat!

my best valentines were when our kids were younger…i was at home at the time and would spend the day decorating, cooking and baking…i would put out our china and wine glasses (filled with sparkling cider), candles and decorate the table really pretty; tablecloth, glitter, candy kisses, etc…then we would turn the lights down low and enjoy a candlelight dinner…i loved valentines day with my husband and 3 children! i hope it's a beautiful memory for them too! (the kids are grown, some with families of their own)valentines is about being with the ones you love…i love my family!

  6. Rita-Anne says:

The best Valentine's present was from my husband, who is usually pretty matter of fact about things in general. He isn't over the top mushy or anything like that, so when he gave me a book of love poems by Pablo Neruda, I was over the moon!! He also included a romantic comedy for us to watch together, which was especially sweet becasue I was housebound with a broken leg at the time.

  7. Kellie Farrington says:

As far as I can remember my mom, family members friends and family friends have always sent valentines to us in the mail we all were so excited to get mail especially valentines. So now im 40 married with children and now every year I send cards to the ones I love and the look on their face is PRICELESS.

  8. Carol Jenkins says:

My Grandmother was the sweetest , kindest person in the world. She had a pendent that was old(even back then) that I loved. While visiting her, She would let me were it . I thought I was it. On Valentines day, she always got us kids something, a card, stuffed bear or candy. In my card in 1977 was the pendent. I was the happyest 15 year old girl in the world. I still have the pendent . My grandmother is not with us anymore, but I still have that memory that will always be my best Valentines day ever.

  9. The best valentine's days were always in grade school, designing clever and cool valentines boxes.

  10. Diane Stewart says:

The best Valentine's Day gift that I have ever had is when the mad I loved came home safely from Vietnam. That was the best gift anyone could have given me. But now he has a lots of things going wrong with his health from being there. I spend most of my time with him because I don't know how long I'll get to keep him with me. I would love to win the gift for him, just because I LOVE HIM WITH ALL MY HEART.

  11. Cheryl says:

The best Valentine we ever had was the year my husband & I quit smoking. That was eight years ago, and we're still smoke free! Nothing says love like putting down the cigarettes together.

  12. Dvna C says:

Coming home from work.. I open the door.. soft romantic music is playing, there is a sweet waft of scented candles filling the room. The twinkling of candlelight all around. I see the table is set very beautifully with a bouquet of roses as the centerpiece. I make my way to the couch, where my tall dark handsome Valentine is silently awaiting my arrival. He grasps my hand, pulling me to him on the couch where there is spread fragrantly soft rose petals all around. He whispers in my ear.. I love you.. and we share a wonderfully long embrace and lingering kiss. He takes my hand guiding me to the chair at the table where he serves me the dinner he has prepared for me .. his delicious lasagna. As we enjoy our meal.. his eyes twinkle in the candlelight, his deep warm intense look and attentiveness makes my heart melt… we share a toast .. Happy Valentines Day… etc… etc. … etc.. :)

There are so many sweet and romantic stories here! I honestly have NO such tender memories of Valentine's Day. I do, however, recall one awesome Valentine's Day gift. I received a gift of my first car–an old, used Ford Granada with no AC (in Florida!)–from my boyfriend. It was the first car I had ever owned (and I was in my 20s) and I thought it was amazing and thoughtful! I have fond memories of that car…and that boyfriend…20+ years later.

  14. Yogie Weinmann says:

THE BEST Valentines Day I ever had was in 2009 when my now husband proposed. I received bouquets of flowers by the hour, every hour from my now husband. starting from a single flower, to a small arrangement, to the grand finale that took 2 people to carry in. I was the envy of all the women in the office, and the men's worst nightmare :) . After this parade of truly showering me with flowers, i received a call from the receiptionist that i had yet another package for me. i thought to myself, "What in the world could top off the last arrangement?" there on top of the receiptionist's desk; sat a beautiful ivory satin pillow with lace and pearl trim. I was puzzled. Really, still at this point NO CLUE!!! The receiptionist waited a couple of minutes and said, "oh, i forgot i to make a call". Within seconds, my now husband came through the double doors of the office, put the pillow on the floor, got on one knee and proposed in front of all 60+ coworkers.

Best Valentines day I have ever had happened in 2 grade. It's true. Every valentines day after that has never compared. This boy Ryan had a super huge crush on me, that I was unaware of. On valentines day 1986 I walked in my classroom with my homemade cards for my classmates and see a huge pile if flowers, candy and a stuffed animal on someones desk. I thought whos ever desk that is,
they are so lucky! I walk over towards my desk and it's my desk that.is covered in goodies. I thought it had to be a mistake, but the card had my name on it. I was a little embarrassed I have to admit, I was not the cutest girl in the class or popular. I looked around the classroom and everyone was looking at me. Then in a few rows over Ryan Berry was standing there smiling at me. I don't recall what I said to him but I was really happy he thought I was special. After school was over that day, we rode the buss together and he asked if I liked my valentines. :) Fast forward 15 years down the road, we ran into each other at the store and exchanged phone numbers. He called and we had a really good time dating for a while. He loved me and probably would have done anything for me, but unfortunately I didn't feel the same about him. :( but have never forgot about that valentines day, and all the jerks I have dated since have never given me a valentines to remember.

  16. Sandra says:

Valentines day for me hmm. I wish I could tell you when it was every year I think we all have high hopes and then realize after the fact that they are all different in there own way either with a when we were in school or with our husbands or boyfriends. Now it's as a newly single again mom with my kids. Last year they want to give me a happy valentines by getting grandma to help them get me peach roses ( which are my favorite) and they made me cards with promises to do things to help me around the house. Of course that all made my heart just melt.
Someday I know I will have a love again to fit with the love from my kids. The best valentines will always be designed from the hearts of the ones of love so dear…

  17. Emma says:

My favorite Valentine's day was last year, when my husband and I decided we'd be happier if we shopped together for our gifts. We picked out just what we wanted and were actually much happier than when we got each other stuff without consulting. I think we started a tradition!

  18. Charlotte says:

Best Valentine's Day I ever had was when my husband and I unknowingly bought each other the same beautiful card, and my daughter and I unknowingly bought each other the same kissing bears from Hallmark! Wasn't the most expensive Valentine's day, but certainly the one I will never forget.

  19. cindy says:

The best Valentines day I ever had was when my 3 boys got together and had a huge bouquet of flowers delivered to me They 4,8,12 at the time . It was a great surprise and I still have the vase they came in.They are in their 30s know

  20. Patti says:

In February 2007, my hubby and I went on a cruise in the South Pacific to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. It was a dream vacation. We spent the first night in an over-water-bungalow in Papeete, Tahiti and boarded the ship the following day. Before we boarded, we went to a local craft market and hubby bought me a gorgeous bouquet of flowers which were in our cabin all week long.

On Valentine's Day, all the women on the ship were given a rose to help celebrate the day. It was an amazing trip that I will always remember!

  21. Jessica says:

The best valentine's day I had was last year. It was the first time that I actually had a valentine on valentine's day, so it was pretty special. But now have something to look forward to. Last year, I got a little crafty crazy and decided to decorate a little room that is inside of my room where my table is. I went out and got red and pink hearts that were covered in glitter and hung them above the table. I also got red, pink, and white streamers and put them above the doorway. I then made a delicious dinner, and lit candles in the room. I will never forget it. Best valentine's day ever.

  22. molly507 says:

My favorite was in grade school, decorating a shoe box, cutting the hole in the top and returning home with a box full of little cards.

  23. Michele B says:

Being happily married for 31 years to a curmudgeon, I was tired of him saying, "Valentine's is just for the Hallmark company". My anticipation was minimal. As my dear valentine left for work an hour before me, I was not surprise, the morning brought only a quick kiss good bye. When I went out to my car, on the passenger seat was a beautiful crystal vase filled with chocolates! This man is a romantic.

  24. Susan Skutt says:

My dad use to make Valentine's really special when i was growing up. He would buy me and my mom our favorite candy and pick out a special card for each of us (and you could tell he picked it out and not really mom.. lol)

I can remember when me and my wife had our first date on Valentine's Day, i will never forget it, we were young, and i went to a card shop and bought her a great card, then we went to a favorite place i always liked and the rest is history, we have been married 24 yrs and 25 this Year, and we still go to that same place every year. Thanks and everyone have a great Valentine's Day.

  27. 4Grammy says:

The best Valentine's Day I ever had, believe it or not, was when my husband was working in another state and we lived apart for eight months. The kids and I in one state and he in another on Valentine's Day. I came home late from work, it was dark out, and as I walked up my front steps I spotted a shadow out of the corner of my eye. Went back down the steps and on the ground was this beautiful bouquet of red roses with a tree branch in the arrangement from my husband. I still have that tree branch 25 years later.

  28. Karen Glorsky Epstein says:

The best Valentines is when my kids all got together and made me the most amazing card. They did this quietly without fighting or arguing. One did the spelling and the youngest two did the coloring. They suprised me with it before I went to work. They even got me chocolate kisses!!!

  29. Sandra King says:

My best valentine's day was the first year my granddaughter was in elementary school. We made the valentine's by hand out of lace doilies. We attached heart shape lollipops. Then she gave one to her favorite valentine, my husband, her Papa!

  30. Burr says:

My mother died on February 9, 1972 when I was still a young girl. On Valentines Day my boyfriend came to my house with two of my close friends and took my little sister and me out to lunch. Hannah was only 8 years old. For some reason the restaurant seemed so beautiful, the food luscious, and the atmosphere serene. It was a teeny crack in my mourning, and when I look back on that day even now it seems to be a cloud of love that surrounded me for that one afternoon.

  31. mmoutes says:

No question, February 14, 2006 was my absolutely BEST Valentine's Day celebration and it was a complete surprise. My son, who was not due for another week, was born on that date. We had been trying to have a baby for quite some while and, in fact, had two adoptions fall through for babies born on Valentine's Day two years previously. Valentine's Day will never again be my own, but it will always be shared and spectacular.

  32. the editor says:

Trying to think of my favorite Valentine's day is pretty discouraging, as I am married to a man I love dearly and who loves me just as dearly but who has little to no romantic imagination! Being the class brain throughout grade school meant I wasn't the most popular kid in class, so I got my requisite share of those little penny valentines we gave and received in school, but nothing special. When I think way back, those childhood years of gentile poverty in our parsonage home bring the best Valentine's Days to mind. We had so very little money to work with, so each year we recycled a red satin, heart-shaped box that had come from I-know-not-where. Dad would scrounge up enough to buy chocolate candies to fill it, and we would present it to our mom, who acted as if she'd never seen it before. I think we also made valentines of red construction paper and doilies, etc., but the candies were truly the extravagance for the day. Perhaps that's why I love chocolate so!

  33. crystal says:

The best valentines day was when i was a child. my mom always surprised us in the morning. i had a chocolate rose on my bed when i got up, more to come!

  34. Ron Miller says:

the most memorable was in 5th grade when I received a card from my crush… of course everyone else in the class got one too, but that didn't matter to me then!

  35. Debra Murphy says:

Undoubtedly the best Valentine I had was when thoughtfulness, effort, love, time and effort were put with heart into showing me what I meant to my boyfriend. He planned the whole thing without my knowledge: a gourmet meal prepared by him, notes left with clues around the house describing times we had together and led to another note, champagne, roses and the rest of the night spent in front of the fire just talking and sharing our feelings. We didn't have a lot of money, but this was so rich in heartfelt love and that is all that mattered!

The baet Valentines day I ever had was the first one I spent with my now husband. We rented a condo on the water in Montauk with another couple for the weekend. A terrible snow storm hit and the other couple left for home. We chose to stay and we were snowed in for a long private weekend. The resort gave us a discounted rate to stay because of the weather. It was so beutiful and we enjoyed each other company.10 years later we still remember it as the best weekend of our lives together.

I will say that it was 10 years ago when my now hubby proposed to me. It was actually a week before our wedding, but I didn't have my ring yet and we hadn't had the actual proposal. He made it so funny, by giving me a hideous, way to big, ring and saying it was all he could find. He also said, well, since we have an apartment, a marriage appointment, and all of that, do you think we should go ahead and get married? It was super funny, sweet, and a great memory.

Best Valentine's Day ever? The year that I rescued my Sweet Meg at a homeless dog adoption event. My heart never felt better! Every day is like Valentine's Day all over again when this sweet dog greets me at the door with a wagging tail at the end of a long day at work!

  43. Sara D. says:

My best Valentine's Day was when my now fiance took me to see John Mayer in concert. He accidentally bought tickets for KY (kentucky) instead of KS (kansas; much closer to where we lived then), so we took an impromptu road trip to kentucky to see the concert and had the absolute best time.

  44. deafsinger says:

My Late godfather bought me a box of candy in a big heart box wrapped in satin & rows of ruffles , in pinks & reds with some white lace, with a plastic rose on the top . All was shrink wrapped in cellophane . It was so beautiful to me as a young child I thought it looked like something that should be in a castle for Cinderella. I felt so special when he gave me that gift. !

This valentines was the best. I kidnapped my anti-valentines boyfriend and took him to Las Vegas. You can't not have a good time in Las Vegas! He enjoyed the city and I enjoyed our first real vacation alone together on my favorite holiday. <3
