A cradle?
I definitely agree. It looks like an old-timey cradle.
My guess is same as Kathleen's cradle. It's hard to figure out when you don't know the dimensions of the actual thing….
It's bigger than a breadbox. Not to be placed on a table or counter. Hope that helps.

I think this is some sort of sifter. Perhaps an old commercial-industrial-type of separator of wheat and shaft maybe- which would swing allowing gravity to do the work.

IIt reminds me of a compost mixer. I think a cradle or baby item would have some sort of safelty lock!
