This week’s freebie is a gardener’s bonanza that comes just in time for spring, sunshine and a sizable outdoor to-do list! I don’t know about you, but I’m jonesing to play in the dirt. I can’t wait to build a couple of raised beds for salad greens, squash, tomatoes and cucumbers. I’m also going to hang some baskets of nasturtiums and strawberries from the front porch. Oh, and I can’t forget my herb and cut flower garden.
Seeds of Change - Giant Garden Giveaway: Seeds, Totes and More
We’ve partnered with the organic seed company Seeds of Change, a staff favorite, to hook-up a winner with all of the trappings of a multi-family or community garden. Seeds of Change is giving away 250 of the highest-quality organic seed packets (a mix of veggies, herbs and flowers), five bags to tote your seeds and other gardening essentials, as well as five custom bowls to display your hard work come harvest time. This is enough loot for your and four green-thumb friends to create joint gardens and share in the spoils. Answer this week’s question before 12/11c Monday, March 21, to be entered for a chance to win.

This week’s question: There’s nothing like enjoying the fruits of your labor. What’s your favorite veggie or fruit to eat fresh from the garden? Heirloom tomatoes? Juicy strawberries? Or are you all about fresh cut flowers?

Having in laws from the jamacia and india it is hard to find good juicy produce for our family so we started growing it ourselves and I must say watermelon and tomatoes are beyond the best of best and the fresh herbs, as a family we love to teach our children about reaping the fruit of there labor and the reward of growing and harvesting there own food, our son and daughter loves it so much they have farmer markets in the summer with there little cart our neighbors love it and so do we, we would love to win this sound exciting

I'd like to learn how to grow flowers. My 21 year old son, Kyle, died in a car accident 17 months ago (October 2009) and I take fresh flowers to his grave site every week or two. I've even been known to take huge potted mums. If I know I won't make it back for 2 weeks, I actually plant a small potted plant in the vase and arrange fresh cut flowers around it. I refuse to take him fake flowers. I would love to take him flowers that I have grown, he used to tease me about not being able to keep plants alive. Since I will never be able to do anything for him again, I can pour my love and heartache into the flowers. Maybe they will grow this time.

I love having fresh herbs to go out and pick from to stick in with meals, but if I am picking a food to munch right there in the garden while I am working it would probably pears off the pear tree at the co-garden we share with some friends. Love that spring is almost here to get back out in the garden!

  7. Brenda says:

FOr my family, it has to be fresh apples. Love them!

  8. Rebecca says:

Well, I love fresh tomatoes and jalapenos for salsa. Strawberries are also a family favorite…with some whipped cream. Oh delicious!!!

I would love to plant my very own veggies and fruits, but my mom really enjoys planting flowers. I love strawberries and pumpkins (actually I love everything). This would be a fun project that my mom and I would REALLY look forward to!

I always have a huge garden, and Tomatos are by far my most favorite, I always plant lots of them and several different kinds, I love the huge beefstake tomatoes, I like to take a salt shaker to the patch with me(that's how much I love them!) to split one open and see what looks like little pearls of dew, you know without a doubt that it's gonna be good, salt that baby and mmmm it's great right off the vine!.. I also love the peppers.. Home grown veggies are oh so good!

We live in the mountains in the Southwest– where it's hard to grow everything. But I love growing lettuce and sunflowers. I would so enjoy getting this freebie!!!!

  15. Lorraine says:

I love tomatos fresh from the garden. My mom had a large garden for years and I remember spending long, hot days helping her can the produce.

  16. jterts says:

Fresh tomatoes and berries are the best straight out of the garden. I also use lots of herbs when cooking so having them right out in my garden would be awesome!

  17. Linda says:

I love fresh tomatoes, cukes and fresh flowers from the garden

  18. Carrie Conley says:

    watermelon and peppers….

  19. Gigi says:

My favorite part of Spring is the herb garden! There is nothing like fresh basil, lemon and chocolate mint.

  20. Sandra D says:

English Peas are without a doubt my favorite. To me they signal the start of spring. They go in first and the new tendrils smell like the beginning of the season. Mostly they get eaten right from the garden but somethimes, when we have a bumper crop they make it as far as the kitchen – into soup, and with pasta. Yum…

  21. Knittingdancer says:

My favorite thing from the garden is fresh tomatoes.

  22. AndThenSheSaid says:

Strawberries or blueberries. Yum. I also enjoy a good laugh over the size of some zucchini, but I don't eat them fresh off the vine so much as enjoy baking/cooking them.

  23. Proud Mama says:

It’s hard to pick one…. but cucumbers are one of my favorites because yummy and very versatile! I use them with the other veggies I grow in beautiful salads, make cucumber salad as a side, fresh cut with some ranch dressing as a snack and even in my ice cold water toake it fresh- you can also use them around your eyes to refresh and reduce puffiness!

  24. Dria says:

If it's fruit, it never makes it into the house except to be rinsed (sometimes lol). I love fruit for home grown organic snacks for the kids. For me, there's nothing better than fresh herbs to be used in everything. That, and the herbs make the whole backyard smell AWESOME. For veggies, I usually choose what I like best (squashes, cucumbers, tomatoes and pumpkins for the kids for halloween, etc.) Ok, ok, ok! I love them all! :)

  25. Amanda L. says:

I love the cucumbers and tomatoes. Nothing better then seeing my 4year old going outside to pick them too, she told me they are a yummy snack. Can't wait to fix out garden and start planting.

  26. mirmalone says:

Tomatoes & Basil. As many different kinds as we can fit in our one tiny sunny plot near the alley.

  27. Erica Best says:

I love strawberry and watermelon so yummy.

  28. Pattie says:

  30. AudreyCole says:
