It likes like it would separate into individual pieces/slices. Those pieces/slices would be cut in half. The halves would be used to support mantlepieces.
An insence burner?
I think it is a lamp for a child's bedroom that creates cool shadows on the wall
What ?????
Is it a cricket box? When I was a little girl my Nana used to tell my a story about a family that kept a cricket in a box. The little cricket kept the family safe and blessed them with luck because they built him a beautiful box to call home. I don't know why this story comes to mind when I look at this lovely piece of furniture, perhaps I'm just missing my youth
.
We had a brass cricket box when I was growing up. I think my mother told me it was good luck. Or keeping a cricket in it was good luck. Ours had potpourri in it.

I think this is one single side chair with a carved chair back. The back has been copied several times and paste one on top the other to throw you off.

One chair with carved back, holding several carved chair backs awaiting to be attached to its chair bottom.
A side table that is holding separate trays for entertaining? It's pretty funky! It would look great for Halloween with a candle burning in it! (It almost has a Jack-O-Lantern look to it!)
