My work-in-progress kitchen is designed in a black, white and yellow color palette with splashes of red. (I read somewhere that red and yellow illicit feelings of hunger, which if you like to cook, make them excellent choices for a kitchen.) We all know black and white appliances are soooo easy to come by, but yellow—and I don’t mean that 70′s yellowish color that just looking at it makes me feel queasy—I mean cheerful, beautiful yellow. That’s a design challenge.

Abt Electronics KitchenAid Mixers

That’s why I’m super stoked to give two, that’s right…two Design Happens readers the opportunity to win a KitchenAid stand mixer from Abt Electronics in any shade they so desire. This appliance is a must for any stylish cook. Tangerine? Onyx? Caviar? They’ve got it all. Plus, Majestic Yellow, the perfect shade for my Mickey D’s inspired kitchen. Can’t decide what color you like, call the Abt award-winning support team to coach you through this all-important decision—and just about anything else. (Seriously…ask for Kevin R., and while you’ve got him on the phone, grill him about his competitive sneaker design hobby.)

Answer this week’s question before 12/11c Monday, March 28, to be entered for a chance to win.

This week’s question: What’s your dream kitchen color scheme? Classic black-and-white? Energizing blue and orange? Totally green?

i would definitely go for the orange stand mixer. It's my favorite color and I'm getting ready to repaint anyway so I will be going for a tropical, beach feel in the room. The orange would work great!

  2. Elsie says:

    Lime green and turquoise!

My husband and I love to go have coffee and pastry at small out of the way coffee shops. I have been working on decorating my kitchen with old coffee and tea pots. I love all of the retro coffee pots and funky tea pots. We go to the consignment and antique shops in search of items for decorating. I would love to add a dark brown (to represent coffee beans) to my kitchen.

  4. Penny says:

White cabinets – Slate-y blue walls with blue damask window treatments!

  5. Lynne Cavalieri says:

Italain-themed with yellow gold and orange, stainless steel appliances and lots of natural light. Cabinets would be medium to dark. Maybe marbled floors.

  6. Cynthia/PT says:

I'd adore a kitchen reminiscent of Old World Mexican Style. Lots of rich colors popping out among strong earthy wooded cabinets, a creative design of tasty colorful tiles on the walls and back splash, sturdy concrete floors and extremely comfy seating. A mix of color in the appliances, that make me wanna grab one and get to creating! I could go on, but I'll stop now.

  7. @maureenroe says:

My dream kitchen colors are cream with black accents. Believe it or not, I'm not a fan of the stainless steel look – give me a black fridge and dishwasher any day and I will be a happy camper :-)

  8. Pallavi says:

Reds and oranges are my favorite..a brickish red paint for the kitchen walls. Its not the crazy, danger sign kind of red, but a rich, warm red. very energizing

I like using earth tones and wood elements.

  16. Brenda says:

I have seen this wonderful granite countertop that is a sandy gray with pink swirls in it. I think it would go great with SS appliances and combination black cabinets with a white island or black island with white cabinets that have a light sandy glaze on top for that 'french country' look… So if I got the mixer, I'd love it to be stainless steel colored. That would be my dream color and kitchen style. Cabinets with some glass covered doors, a place to put a lot of cookbooks, a nice wine fridge and place to put extra wine bottles because I make homemade wine and a nice cabinet for all my canning that I do from my garden..it is a challenge.

  17. Brenda says:

continued: I have a wonderful kitchen, but it isn't 'organized/or set up' very efficiently. When we bought this house it was already built and due to the market at that time, we were 'lucky' to find the house, but it definately is NOT my dream home. We had the plan # we wanted to build our dream home, but couldn't find the land @ the time. Land here is very expensive. Now the market is better, but unfortunately we are one of those that owe more on our house than it is worth and we are just trying to make it work for now. My husband is disabled and I am retired since buying the house due to 'health' concerns. Hang in there, everyone.

One of my favorite things to do is to dream about what I want if I could have my dream house, and as I love to cook and entertain, the kitchen gets a lot of thought!….Currently, the dream for the kitchen is dark marble, light yellow toned natural wood cabinets, creme colored paint, bright reds and oranges for the backsplash and accents, with a few dark touches thrown in (dark greys, midnight blues…). Bright, fun, energetic and comfortable!

My kitchen, in this treasured Victorian house, has been a work in progress for nine years. No cabinets, only storage shelves to house my appliances. A BEAUTIFUL red Kitchen Aide would add a wonderful splash of color to this construction zone that I face when trying to create culinary "masterpieces" that aren't filled with plaster dust.

  46. Yelena says:

My kitchen cabinets are white with stainless steel button handles. The counter top and back splash are beige and the walls are baked sconce, My appliances are stainless steel and black. I like it, because it's always bright and clean, but I would love to add a little splash of bright color in appliances: red, yellow apple green. That would be a great addition.
