• Tell Your Friends

The whole “new year, new you” philosophy made a huge impact on me this year. I disbanded my nasty procrastination habit and filed my taxes three months early. Three months! While I safely stored my refund in an untouchable savings account (compulsive shopping will not take over this time!), I can’t help daydreaming about a tax return wish list full of designer pieces from 1stdibs I would love to call my own. My wish list total = $17,650 — eek! My refund from the IRS — not even close to that.

If you could splurge on anything, what would it be? Let us know, and in the meantime, feel free to lust over my wish list. And don’t forget to file your taxes. Monday’s the deadline!

Kayla’s 1stdibs Tax Return Wish List:

  1. T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings Love Seat for Widdicomb: This mid-century modern love seat is so sleek. The mahogany frame and cotton strapping instantly transform the furniture from simple sofa to conversation piece. (Plus, the golden/mustard upholstery would look amazing in my living room … after I give my tired, sage sofa the boot.)
  2. Hand-Painted Canvas Map of Europe: I used to love when my elementary school teachers would pull down the enormous world map for geography lessons. There was something about the wooden bars and spring roller that made the map more visually appealing to me, even as a child. I never really thought about integrating schoolhouse pull-down maps into my home decor until recently. Wouldn’t this mid-century map of Europe look perfect behind or beside the golden love seat?
  3. Enameled Rotating Dentists’ Cabinet: Who would have thought that a metal occupational cabinet could serve as a stylish side table or nightstand decades later? This mid-century French (ca 1940s/1950s) dentists’ ‘Girator’ cabinet showcases industrial style with functional and chic appeal. The central unit features drawers and small glass cabinets to now hold knickknacks and collectibles. Plus, the entire cabinet sits on casters. I might love this piece too much.
  4. White Ceramic Deer Lamps: From backyard birds to exotic fish, nature-inspired decor has definitely found its way into my living room. These whimsical ceramic deer lamps would be the perfect addition to my animal-loving design collection. Originally antique Italian-made figurines, the graceful animals have now received a new purpose with the addition of lamp applications. And since you can’t separate the pair, I guess I’d just have to buy a set of gorgeous side tables, too.
