Lighting: An Update!

Remember back in September when I shared our lighting plan with you all? We’ve had quite a few changes since then, and it’s time for an update!

The good news? The lighting plan served its purpose, and the frustrations, time and headaches were worth the hassle. The other news? Well…it turns out I’m much more indecisive than I thought.

Behold, the original fixtures I had specified for our space:

And here’s what we actually ended up with after months and months of vacillation:

Not a crazy amount of change, but I can assure you that we’re pretty much light-exhausted by now.

So here’s how it turned out. The four corner lighting we had planned for turned out beautifully, and we managed to figure out the best outlet/dimmer situation for each space. Care for a few beauty shots? (Photo credit goes to Rob Bredow for all the pics.)

We chose to light our entire home with Sylvania PAR20 LEDs (we found the best price on eLightBulbs). They look beautiful and our energy costs were cut by nearly 6%!

By far the hardest part of our lighting plan was choosing where to place our outlets and switch plates. Here’s a sneak peek of one of the more convenient switch plate installation areas: the side of our kitchen island!

Our outlets and switch plates are from Lutron — fancy, yes?

The cheery Artesia shades brighten up the kitchen and provide a touch of accent lighting over the sink.

So, how did we do? Is our lighting up to par? Would love to hear your thoughts, and as always, I’ll share photos of those fancy pendants as we install them!
