• Tell Your Friends

Memorial Day is when all the newspapers and free weekly rags come out with their official guides to summer. Well, cast those aside, and instead follow my guide to a summer bursting with style. Yes, that’s right. These are my top 5 picks for summer lovin’ of the design kind. Don’t let those summer days drift away. (Yes, Grease is my favorite summer movie.) With the long holiday weekend finally here, this is the perfect time to enjoy at least one of these. Tell me more, you say? Of course. Here you go:

1. Plan a Stylish, Fuss-Free Backyard Party

With sunshine in sight, I’ll be spending the entire weekend outdoors, and you should, too! Welcome summer weather by gathering friends and family for a backyard party. Fire up the grill and and give these summer-inspired recipes a try.

2. Decorate With Unusual Flea Market Finds

One of my favorite ways to spend Saturday mornings in the summer is scouring local flea markets and yards sales for to-die-for trinkets and decor. I’ll be on the lookout for some kitsch and vintage bird figurines to adorn my bookshelf. Explore a flea market near you for one-of-a-kind finds for a reasonable price. (And let us know what treasures you find!)

3. Bring the Beach Indoors

If I can’t be at the beach, then I least want to feel like I’m there. One of the best ways to bring the feeling of summer indoors is to give your interior some coastal, sea-style love. By adding vintage marine life prints and starfish napkin holders, this dining room feels like it’s nestled next to sand dunes (even if it’s in the middle of the city.) And I love the addition of coral to any beach chic vignette.

4. Decorate With This Summer’s Hottest Style Trends

Update your decor with the changing seasons by trading out your warm window treatments, deep furniture upholstery, pillows and throws for accent pieces and accessories with a lighter touch. A slipcover can work wonders! So can a fresh coat of paint in a cool new color.

5. Need More Inspiration? Tour Sarah’s Summer House

Sarah Richardson’s summer house is the definition of coastal cottage, and I seriously can’t get enough. Tour every room in the house, and try not to drool. And if a summer rain shower has you cooped up indoors, tune in for her show. New episodes of Sarah’s Summer House premiere Saturdays at 8pm/et.

So what will it be for you this weekend? Please share. And if I missed a summer style must, let me know!
