Try this. In a second, I want you to close your eyes and think about a color that is at the same time both searing hot and exhilaratingly cool. Sounds like an oxymoron, I know, but try it. Close your eyes…
…so what color did you see? Let us know at the end of this post if what you pictured in your mind’s eye matches our pick for HGTV’s June Color of the Month…a hue that both sizzles and chills.

1. The Company Store allegra quilt and flower pillows; 2. Anthropologie moroccan jewel lantern; 3. Horchow peony cake stand; 4. Crate & Barrel marimekko mini unikko scarf; 5. Designers Guild arzino livenza damask; 6. FLOR haute stuff; 7. Jonathan Adler junior templeton chair; 8. India Rose kyra doormat; 9. PB Teen bedding bundle and madison floral shade; 10. Etsy seller Madderroot tea towel
When the votes were cast, Lili Zarghami, our Managing Editor, agreed Cerise is the perfect color for June. During the dog days of summer, this saturated hue would incite heat stroke. But early in the summer, it evokes thoughts of bright bathing suits with matching toe nail polish…cherry basil artisanal popsicles and homemade sangria. As someone who relishes happy coincidences, Rue picked cerise paired with marigold as one of their favorite summer color combos.

My favorite use of Cerise in interiors comes from Charleston-based designer Angie Hranowsky. Obviously, Cerise is a perfect accent color, whether paired with subdued yellows and peaches like in the bedroom or the crisp turquoise and white in the dining room. So far, I haven’t found a room I love with all four walls painted or wallpapered in a true Cerise like Benjamin Moore’s Royal Flush or Mythic Paint’s Portia . If you come across a stunning example, please share it with us.
So, what do you think? When I prompted you to close your eyes at the top of the post, is Cerise the color that popped into your head? Do agree it’s perfect for June? Tell us in the comments below.

I must say – I'm not a fan. Way to bright and 'pinky red' for my tastes!
i agree!
I adore pink, so I think purplish-pink hue is fabulous! I especially love it with the yellow, orange and green in the flower pillows shown. Those are gorgeous!
I thought orange.
I think the color is fabulous, and I would love to use it in my bedroom as an accent. What other color(s) should I pair with it for a sophisticated, elegant look?
Hi Anne,
An accent wall is a great way to add color too a room without overwhelming your space. Great design choice! Im loving the Angie Hranowsky bedroom Anna pictured in the post. You could reverse the color scheme a little. Since you're wanting a cerise wall, keep the bedding neutral, but make sure you continue the cerise in small doses throughout the room. Silk flowers. Frames. Area rugs. I'd also add pops of aqua and plenty of toned-down, natural greens to keep it from getting too technicolor. Good luck!

I added orange accessories to my beige room and a beige and brown and orange throw to my sofa.
Looks great.
I thought bright blue
Pink is a delightful choice! I think it exciting, brilliant and warm at the same time. It makes me happy just looking at the different hues. I also feel its a color that you can throw in many more colors with and be given and connecting at the same time. LOVE IT!
I see touquise
I see red! Not a big fan of pink. Maybe red and orange? Throw in stark white!
That's interesting. I used to have a sweater in Cerise, but I never felt comfortable wearing that color, even though I'm a "winter."
Like in the dining chairs and Crate&Barrel scarf…so sharp!
I love shades of pink. It is fine for clothing but in my house that 's a no, no!
Sounds stunning!
I'M IN LOVE WITH IT.I CAN SEE THIS IN MY HOME.

Absolutely, or customize a solid curtain in another color with a decorative band of black.

As an art teacher, I would tell my students it was REDVIOLET. Warm hues are reds, yellows & oranges, cool hues are blues, greens & purples. Red Violet is half warm & half cool. (like yellowgreen). the J. Adler chair (pix #7) is the perfect red violet or cerise.
I absolutely love the color and always have. Even though I do not use it in my home decor it has been in my gardens for years now. It is definitely a color that draws attention.
I love it, especially with orange. In fact I just bought a bathing suit in these colors!
Just a little to bright for me.
Bright but the perfect accent
MY MOM WAS WAY AHEAD OF YOU GUYS! IN THE 70S OUR KITCHEN WAS ORANGE & CERISE & MY MOM & DADS BEDROOM WAS BLACK WALLS-WHITE FAUX FUR BEDSPREAD & CERISE HANGING LAMPS & THROW PILLOWS! WE HAD THE MOST AWESOME HOME IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD! THUS MY CONTINUED LOVE OF BRIGHT COLORS ESPECIALLY CERISE!! THANKS MOM! LETS GO SHOPPING!
It reminds me of a Popsicle color, from when I was a kid, so, yeah, it's perfect for warm-weather June. Great for a bedroom or a sun porch but too bright for any place else in my house, I think.
Refreshing,happy,and full of life
Years ago i saw a large dining room with a chair rail and great light. The upper half of the room was cerise, the lower half was a little darker magenta. With the volume of the room and the light, it was an absolute jewelbox! It glowed. Glorious!
Great colors,more for the teengers
I love it! What a happy color! Would gladly add some to my spaces if I found the right item(s).
It's already the dog days of summer for most of the country. Give me cool whites, blues, and greens while I hide from the heat.
Cerise is NOT red-violet or purplish pink – it's a pinkish-red. "A deep pink-red color from the French cerise, 'cherry.'"
Love it! Especially the darker version.
My husband would say toooooooo pink.
Isn't it a little too 1992?
i have something called "black cherry' in my great room that encompasses my kitchen ,family and dining rooms.and to offset it i have one long wall done in a grey. a grey sofa, beige flower curtains, mahogany dining furniture and white woodwork.. my countertop/breakfast bar is a mix of beige, black, grey, brown granite and my backsplash is glass mosaic tiles with the same colors.
when people come into my home, they think it is fabulous! it doesnt sound good, but all put together,it is designer good.
I LOVE IT!!! I would use it in a heartbeat! I wear it already and would wear it regardless of whether or not it is "in". It is so alive and very natural (there are tons of flowers that color- I have some!)
not for me. I like red but not that one.
I was picturing yellow-green. LOVE this shade. Cranberry, wine, cerise, magenta are all personal favorites.
As an interior decorator, I just finished redoing my own daughter's room in hot pink, black and white. Her bathroom has the same colors. Add a punch of bright yellow and wow!!
I ABSOLUTELY ADORE THAT COLOR!!! Sooo rich and gorgeous and yummy!!! It goes with everything, which I personally by myself wouldnt know what to put with it….LOVE the green and oranges with it!! Way to go HGTV color people!! You rock!!! Great choice!!! xoxo Pam
rasberry!! love it
A BIG thumbs down…this much of cerise gives me a headache!! I'm assuming cerise is the hot pink, and not the raspberry which is much kinder to the eye? It's hard to tell from the pics exactly which one you mean…
Love this color, especially contrast this color with lime green with make a space full of energy.
It's rasberry, OK?
Love all the colors but my family would shoot me to girley
definitely, one of the colors Dorothy sees when opening the door upon waking and everything turns from blackand white into glorious color.
For those of you who like fuchsia, magenta, raspberry, cerise, deep hot pink check this out: http://kokocompany.com/#allure-5
I don't like it; although, I like it paired with the vibrant orange, as in the allegra quilt. When I look at that color, I think of fall, not summer.
Here today, gone tomorrow.
Looks great for a designer room but in an everyday world, one would tire of it quickly
Intense, cobalt blue is the intersection of "searing hot and exhilaratingly cool". Cerise is a great color for June, but to me it doesn't really capture the striking mood of this assignment. I have to say, though, I absolutely LOVE Angie Hranowsky's featured bedroom design!
I love this color, always have! I remember as a girl having clothing made out of this color. I may have to work it into our home. My husband would be open to the color, it seems "girly" but if I sell it the right way…Maybe some throw pillows! Time to go shopping! I think I'll try mixing it with lime…
