Some people ask for a new car or a trip to Europe upon receiving their college degrees, but I asked for a composter. You think I’m kidding for the sake of editorial humor? Well, this blogger would never tell a lie. I asked my significant other to get me a composter I’d seen at the local hardware store, and he presented me with my very own plant-food-maker at my graduation party. While my friends were backpacking through the Alps, I was making nutrient-rich plant food by composting my kitchen scraps.

While I do love my composter, I’m wishing I had shopped around a little because the Jora Jk125 Composter available at Eartheasy is the Cadillac of compost tumblers. It’s two chambers keep fresh scraps separated from finished compost. No more waiting for your huge pile of compost to cook when you have plants that need some fertilizer this week. Our green thumb Design Happens readers know exactly what I’m talking about.
To be entered into the random drawing for this state-of-the-art compost tumbler, leave us a comment before 12/11c Monday, June 27.
This week’s question: What home and garden product is on your wish list right now? I’m always hinting that someone should buy me a cedar potting bench.
Tell us in the comments below.

I would really like to get my husband a composter. Our backyard faces a walking trail and all our neighbors can see into it. Right now they are seeing the set for "Holes"; he has had our three boys out there digging holes for the compost. There are holes and piles of dirt EVERYWHERE. Please save me.
Much more efficient than the Crocket's Victory Garden one I made years ago
I would like to get some soil conditioning product. The product adds beneficial bacteria to the soil and helps improve garden yields!
I would absolutely love to get some cedar fencing to put around our garden. We have some small critters that are getting into the garden and I would like a pretty way to keep those guys out!
cushions for the benches my husband and i just built!
I can't wait to remove a weird area of grass in an odd place for my hub to have to mow, lay some flat stone, and create an outdoor seating area in the front of our home. I can think of a great place for the grass we remove
A good composter is actually what has been on my list for quite some time now.
I have wanted a potting bench for as long as I can remember. I get so tired of having to work on the ground with a garden hose. Plus, I am all for ambience, and the RIGHT potting bench would do SO much for my garden look.
not sure if this counts, but I've been wanting to get a hammock to hang from my trees!
I could use a dozen of these on my South Florida property
I would simply love TIME to plant my garden this year! And sunshine!
We have also been wanting a composter. My husband fashioned one out of old palettes and it is an eyesore!
Composter!!
I would love to have some wrought Iron garden fencing to place at the corners of my flower garden just to 'dress them up' but this composter would be great to help with both my flower beds AND my veggies!
The thing I would like most right now is a comfy hammock to put between these two perfect trees in our backyard. I'd love to read in the shade and spend even more relaxing time outside this summer and fall!
French drains or something to resolve drainage issues in small backyard
I'd love a small greenhouse or even a cold frame. And I need another composter to supplement the DIY composter that my husband made out of 55 gallon barrel.
A hammock for the summer would be great! Unfortunately I don't have two trees to string one up to.
Ditto on the hammock! What a great way to spend the summer!
Thanks to a great second anniversary gift from my hubbie, I am the enthusiastic haver of a new hammock. (cotton anniversary = genius!) Now I'm pining for a great rain collection barrel. Sure, Texas is in the midst of a horrible drought, but that will change…hopefully soon.
Well I've been wanting a composter as well, and aside from that I've been thinking about getting a gardener's worktable/bench so I have a place to re-pot plants and do other garden tasks.
this is my comment
Ultimate "Wish" list item would be a green house so we could expand our growing season.
I need some t-posts to do some trellising of my tomatoes and peas. I could use a few planters too for the deck!
I would love to have a composter.I would be giving back to the earth.
A garden tiller would be wonderful!
Sorry this is so predictable … but I'd love to have a composter. These tumble bins are so awesome … and always been on my wishlist
Beware…I have a round composter that I have to turn and believe me I can't do it alone…it gets too heavy. It is so frustrating….now I need to turn it and my husband is gone so I have to wait until he gets home to help me turn it again. It needs to be turned daily.
I really, really, really want an arbor for growing kiwi. It gets really big and needs something strong.
What a coincidence! I was researching different composters and came upon this blog. My wish list is for the Jora compost tumbler with the dual chambers, so I could have finished compost while still adding fresh scraps to the other side. The Jora composter is the cream of the crop with its efficient design in recycling. My plants are eagerly awaiting the enrichment to their soil.
I have been talking about a tumbling composer for a few years now, tried the "pile" approach last year, was doing alright til the neighbor dozed it over with his huge tractor, so the tumbling kind has been on my list since then, so much faster! ohhh i hope i win im so excited even thinking about it!
I'm really wanting some raised beds for planting, and a composter to go with them would be excellent!
I would love to win something like this! It kills me to see how much food is thrown into the garbage and going into the fills that doesn't have to. I am very green in all other ways but my yard is too urban and too small to have a compost pile. Winning this compost machine would make my year! I keep asking for one for christmas, but my family insists they want to give me more "fun" presents. (They get a good chuckle when I tell them compost and being green is fun) Help!!! I'm the best winner you could pick!
ps- I think a cedar potting bench is awesome! If I had the money, I would buy one for you!
I have two things I've been wanting and that's a rainwater harvesting collection system and a composter!
Composting would relieve my angst about throwing out all that could become beautiful compost. My roses need a boost now.
I really want a small grocery cart like the new ones at the food stores. I would like to design one with big rubber tires and rust free durable plastic. Top and Bottom bins so that I can haul my garden tools, soil and up to 3 gal container plants. I have been looking online and found mailroom carts – but that is not quite it. A grocery cart is the perfect size to fit in a garage / shed without taking up too much room and I can stuff it full! Any suggestions?
I've been wanting some sort of composting solution for some time now – this one would get me off the hook of trying to build one myself! I'm also playing around with some DIY water feature ideas…
This is a great composter. I've been using a homemade one where I need to turn the contents with a pitch fork. It was fine when I was much younger, but now one I can spin to mix is like a dream come true. On my wish list are pavers. I'd like to create a little outdoor room outside of the shed. It's in the shade and would be a perfect reading area.
composter (tired of looking at the heap at the back of the yard) and composite fencing
I've had my eye on some sort of wall garden for a while now. Just having beautiful greenery going vertical up a wall could be quite stunning.
I'm all about growing my favorite veggies organically, and this composter would be perfect. It'd also be so beneficial for my herbs, berries ans perennials. What a great product and winning it would be fabulous!
I have been dreaming of a composter for soooo long now, and have not been able to afford one. We have been using a homemade one, made of a fence and a pitchfork
and it stinks. Literally. My beautiful organic veggie and flower gardens, myself, and my family, would be ever so delighted to receive an amazing, tumbling, fast making composter. Thank you!
After watching some of the "green" home improvement shows, I've been wanting a composter and think about them as I throw away my kitchen scraps……It is truly on my list of wants for my home and garden!!
a composter is on my 2011 to-do list- make this happen for me hGTV!!!!!
I would love to start over with this one….
I just started a vegetable garden last year and have one again this year. This red clay soil in NC means we needed to buy a lot of topsoil. A composter would be a great earth-friendly way to add nutrients to my plants and flowers. My dad made his own compost pile and always had the best tasting home grown tomatoes and the most healthiest beautiful roses! I have also looked into worms making "compost" but am not sure how to start one of those.
I really need some quality outdoor furniture…I just don't have it in the budget right now! I might have to settle for some of those $20 chairs from Home Depot!
This would be a great compost for the winner of the HGTV Green Home.
I'm in desperate need of a rain barrel. It is at the top of the list on most wanted items to splurge on.
A composter is on my wish list, but what I really need is a perennial spade. It is just the right size to divide the plants especially hostas.
