Some people ask for a new car or a trip to Europe upon receiving their college degrees, but I asked for a composter. You think I’m kidding for the sake of editorial humor? Well, this blogger would never tell a lie. I asked my significant other to get me a composter I’d seen at the local hardware store, and he presented me with my very own plant-food-maker at my graduation party. While my friends were backpacking through the Alps, I was making nutrient-rich plant food by composting my kitchen scraps.

Compost Tumbler

While I do love my composter, I’m wishing I had shopped around a little because the Jora Jk125 Composter available at Eartheasy is the Cadillac of compost tumblers. It’s two chambers keep fresh scraps separated from finished compost. No more waiting for your huge pile of compost to cook when you have plants that need some fertilizer this week. Our green thumb Design Happens readers know exactly what I’m talking about.

To be entered into the random drawing for this state-of-the-art compost tumbler, leave us a comment before 12/11c Monday, June 27.

This week’s question: What home and garden product is on your wish list right now? I’m always hinting that someone should buy me a cedar potting bench.

There is a vacant lot between my house and my neighbors. He has rototilled the front section for a community garden. A composter would be great for our neighborhood to use. This also goes along with my latest project of building a potting bench on my side of the lot.

Well it is hard to pick between 2: 1)a chainsaw because I have some diseased dogwood trees that got to go because they are only beautiful for about 2 months out of the year. 2) in-ground sprinkler system to water my lawn. IT is dry and terrible looking right now. Our family however has been recycling for the past 3 years and separating our trash. The only thing we don;t save is the food waste which I think the composter would be absolutely fantastic for and help teach the kids that even leftovers (at least certain ones) can be recycled as well. Thank you for all the ideas and information. Your website is great. :D

I'd like a big beautiful side stand umbrella with a hammock to relax in underneath it.

First, I LOVE HGTV! Second, I am in charge of building an organic garden for people living with HIV/AIDS. We have the land and garden boxes. Now we need, well, everything else, lol. I work for Aid For AIDS Nevada (AFAN) and we have over 3500 clients. Our new housing facility is called "Casa de Esperanza", House of Hope. Our organic garden is to be christened, "Jardin de Esperanza", Garden of Hope. Maybe HGTV can come take a look? We are trying to provide healthy food to clients living on extremely limited incomes and we sure could use that composter!

  9. @GingerCM says:

I have the saddest red clay soil — I really want a composter! My poor twiggy tomatoes need rich soil!

  10. jagsgran says:

I've been thinking of getting some perennials that will grow well in the shade. I have been hoping to get some railroad ties so that my window wells can get fixed. Would love to find some unique patio tiles to make a front path with. I love HGTV. Thanks for all the great ideas.

  11. Amanda says:

We tried making our own compost bin but it isn't working out very well. It doesn't have a "tumble" feature and is taking forever to turn into useable compost.

  12. heather says:

After reading this article, the Jora Jk125 Composter is now on my list! I have been wanting to start composing for years, and with this beauty, I can't think of a better time to start!

  13. Mandy says:

My dream would be gutter that hook into a rain collection barrel. Live in a rural setting and fear a dry well if I pamper the lawn.

  14. ewalsh40 says:

A tiller. I can't believe that we've lived here eleven years and still haven't bought one yet.

I need that composter. Really. Need, not want.

  17. kristin says:

I need a teacher to teach me how to garden, and then compost!

  18. Jamie says:

I have been wanting a tumbling composter. I have a regular one that's always full, and this spring I opened it up and touched a mouse! I was so startled, I jumped back five feet. (I have to admit I screamed too!) I'm being brave and I still use it, but I'd sure like one that's off the ground.

  19. ruthj54 says:

I would love to have a tumbling composter. I have the standard type & one just doesn't cut it. You need at least 2, 3 would be better but I don't have the room.

  20. jonathon stanley says:

I have been shopping for a compost tumbler. This one looks incredible. My kids got me a hammock for father's day. If I won this, I could lay back and let the tumbler do all the work. That would be the life.

  21. Georgie says:

I'd love to have a larger tiller. The one we have is a cultivator–which is fine once the clay is tilled! But to have my own tiller to soften up and mix that clay with a fresh batch of composted soil–what wonderful tasting veggies can be grown.

  22. Rachel says:

My daughter and I built two 4' x 8" garden boxes this year and would love a compost tumbler. We love digging in the dirt – no gloves allowed.

  23. AndThenSheSaid says:

We recently received a Los Angeles rain barrel so our wishlist priority are adjustments (& in some spots complete installation) of our gutters so we can maximize water reserves. The composter would complete the land half of the garden equation, so making/purchasing a composter has also been high on the list.
This model is a truly exceptional giveaway.

  24. @clj21225 says:

I have so much on my list. Number one would be a tiller.

  25. Liz says:

I would like materials to make a raised bed garden space. A composter would be nice as well.

  26. pam32327 says:

I would like to have this composter, but what we would really love to have is a pergola for our back porch. Something to add shade, visual interest and protect our home from the elements.

  27. ltlwoman says:

I have a tumbling composter and it works great, However I need a second one because Its full and now i have no where to put my scraps. This design is awesome. I would love to have this composter.

  28. @millerrl says:

Well, now that I know that something as amazing as this exists in the world, I want one of these! I just started composting this summer and I am impatiently waiting for my first batch of compost to use.

  29. Dineen says:

It's a composter that's on my list! I'm replanting my mother's yard and making flower, tea and vegetable gardens for her. She's an incredible cook so scraps wouldn't be hard to come by and she's an incredible mother and grandmother and so deserves beautiful gardens to relax in.

  30. Mary W says:

Every day I have been wishing for rain. And every day it passes around my property instead of on it . A second wish is this beautiful composter!

  31. M. Cierniak says:

Remembering how composting contributed to the success of my parents' and relatives gardens, I would like to invest in one myself now that I am retired and able to devote more time to gardening. Your mention of one by brand name is helpful indeed, as there are so many out there from which to choose. Thanks!

  32. KarenWemm says:

A tumbling composter is something I could really use for my small backyard garden, actually something I've been wishing for to perk up my vegetables.

  33. MissRance says:

I've got a rainbarrel on my wishlist right now!

  34. Michelle P. says:

My husband just built a new deck, so outdoor decor – cushions, pillows, pots, and a rug – is on the top of my list right now.

  38. Amy says:

I would love to be able to make my own compost! We buy a big mound of compost each year for use in our flowers & the garden. We need to put our yard clippings & leftovers to work..

  39. lpourroy says:

Glad I read this. Didn't think about two separate parts so you don't mix old with new. I have the stackable never used it. And been looking at the tumbler kinds. Can anyone tell me if it smells?

  40. cindy says:

I love this compost maker. I have two plastic compost bins in my backyard, but they take forever to make compost and now there are bees making a hive in one of them! They are honey bees so I don't want to disturb them but I can't use the compost bin either.

  41. Kate says:

Patio furniture that seats more than four and isn't covered in tree sap (which I've been trying unsuccessfully to remove for over a year now). We were going to get some this spring but then the windshield of the car got hit with a rock from the top of a truck and we had to replace that instead.

  42. Brenda says:

    I need a rototiller!

  43. Lisa Kempe says:

I just started composting this year, and because of budget I bought a very low end model. I would love to have a new one that has the two compartments like the one mentioned above.

  44. Ella says:

A composter is high on the list!

  45. Brenda Danner says:

I would love to try some of the 16 x16 "tiles" of the shredded rubber for my back deck. It has broken sagging concrete and using the tiles over the top would be a good facelift for something I hadn't done yet…..which Is break out concrete and repour.

  46. Diane says:

    A rain barrel

  47. Lisa says:

rain barrel and a new composter

  48. nicole says:

Wow, where to begin? The list of ever ending wants for the home & garden. Here are my top 5: 1 | a new composter {we just moved to open land in Colorado & worm composting will no longer work due to bears & mountain lions}. 2 | a fancy new clothes line 3| costom built cob oven 4| hammock sounds really nice 5| a sweet little garden gnome that would magically weed my garden…

  49. Julie says:

I've been researching cedar raised beds and composting, in hopes of starting my own little sustainable backyard garden. A 2 chamber composter sounds perfect!

  50. Kathleen Ryan says:

A composted is still on my wish list.
