• Tell Your Friends

Some people ask for a new car or a trip to Europe upon receiving their college degrees, but I asked for a composter. You think I’m kidding for the sake of editorial humor? Well, this blogger would never tell a lie. I asked my significant other to get me a composter I’d seen at the local hardware store, and he presented me with my very own plant-food-maker at my graduation party. While my friends were backpacking through the Alps, I was making nutrient-rich plant food by composting my kitchen scraps.

Compost Tumbler

While I do love my composter, I’m wishing I had shopped around a little because the Jora Jk125 Composter available at Eartheasy is the Cadillac of compost tumblers. It’s two chambers keep fresh scraps separated from finished compost. No more waiting for your huge pile of compost to cook when you have plants that need some fertilizer this week. Our green thumb Design Happens readers know exactly what I’m talking about.

To be entered into the random drawing for this state-of-the-art compost tumbler, leave us a comment before 12/11c Monday, June 27.

This week’s question: What home and garden product is on your wish list right now? I’m always hinting that someone should buy me a cedar potting bench.

Besides the wonderful composter being given away here…I would love to find a tool that quickly removes weeds up from the roots. Right now I just hand pull the weeds out of my flower beds.

Install drip irrigation for my mom's container plants.

I WOULD LIKE A COMPOST TUMBLER. I COMPOST IN BIG PLANTERS IN MY YARD ,BUT IT TAKES SO LONG. MAYBE I DON,T DO IT CORRECTLY. PLUNG@SBCGLOBAL.NET

  5. Leslie says:

i WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A DRIP IRRIGATION SYSTEM AND A rAIN BARREL!

  6. Vivian says:

I do like the two compartments. I thought I would be to old to garden before anything was tuly ready.

I just started composting in a trash can several months ago and have already been dreaming of a tumble composter as I roll my trash can across the yard and try to balance it on my foot while turning the new in with the old. My birthday is just 9 days away, I would love to win this!

  8. Susan P. says:

I'd love to get some landscaping timbers to edge my small garden areas so the mulch doesn't slide onto the sidewalks.

  9. Tiffany H says:

well a composter of course……. and I would also LOVE a sensor activated sprinkler to scare off all of the rabbits that are eating my grass, flowers and veggie leaves!

  10. Angie says:

I would love an umbrella to block the afternoon sun from the stone patio, … And a composter.

  11. Andria says:

I need to plant some drought-resistant plants. I in Texas (Howdy, y'all!) and right now, everything is nice and crispy. All my annuals and perennials died a slow agonizing death weeks ago. Unless it's drought-resistant, it's doomed around here, considering the combined 100-something degree scorching heat and water conservation that's going on right now. In fact, my watering time mandated by the city is at 1 am. I have a baby that is FINALLY sleeping through the night. Ya think I'm gonna fore-go those precious hours to wake up and water? No way!

  12. Char in West CenLA says:

Really! A composter and a potting bench are on my wish list. The composter would certainly help the soil out in the piney woods of Louisiana

  13. flummel says:

I am lusting for a food dehydrator!

  14. Tali B. says:

a buttercream yellow kitchenaid! But this composter will absolutely do!

It's no joke that a tumbling composter has been at the top of my wish list! Right now I throw food scraps into a pile that neighborhood critters get into. Then a new BBQ – it is my second summer without one and I really miss firing up the grill…

I don't know if this is considered a garden product but i would really love to have a outdoor pop up canopy that way i can garden in the shade and the only thing would be turning red would be my tomatoes and not my skin

My little composter is not working well, so my first wish would be for a composter like the one I
see above. The second widh would be for an outdoor potting bench so I could tend to the pots
I have around the back. I love HGTV and am addicted I am afraid to say
My family thinks I am crazy – but I know a good thing when I see it!^_^

I want to build some planter boxes for my deck. I'm expanding my container gardening but I'd like some larger (and more attractive) containers :)

  19. peg5 says:

a retractable shade would be wonderful for our cement pad area (we don't have a deck). Thanks for asking.

  20. Lori says:

On our home and garden wish list right now is a reel mower. No gas, no electricity, just a plain ol' human powered mower. Last year we moved from Florida where we had a really flat yard, to Pittsburgh where half our yard is a steep hill. A reel mower would be so much easier to maneuver on the hillside but alas a lack of extra cash needed to buy one is lacking.

  21. JLHUDDLE2011 says:

I would love a new composter! I have recently planted several new flowers and bushes. The homemade fertilizer would be greatly appreciated.

  22. millie42 says:

I would love a composter! I've been trying to compost for a while and this would be just perfect.

  23. Emily says:

Actually a composter is on my list!! I have a small counter top one that I used for awhile but once I put it outside a pile just wasn't good enough. There wasn't an easy way to stir it. I would looove to have this next to my shed so that I could put some of the nutrients back into the ground. Every time I throw away egg shells or fruit rinds I wish I had somewhere to put it other than the trash:(

  24. Aaron says:

I haven't ever owned one of these mowers, but due to the steep hill in my lawn and the cumbersome/gas guzzling mower I just had repaired, I want to get a nice Reel Mower. It's Eco-friendly and is better for you grass, but I just want something easier to handle.

  25. Anna Reece says:

I'm in great need of an outdoor shower, as i live near a lake and my Siberian Husky goes swimming almost everyday (although they are not supposed to like water, mine LOVES it). Unfortunately with her thick fur coat she never quite dries and she smells awful all summer long.

  26. Stacey says:

Really want dirt for that second garden in the back alley!

  27. [...] reading the comments left in our June 24th giveawaywith Eartheasy, it’s safe to say that most gardeners have the same things on their wish lists: [...]

  28. Casey Wright says:

I have been wanting a composter and rain barrel for so long. Those are the top things on my wish list!

  29. Deborah Barber says:

Soil for a raised bed, a potting bench and I'd love a compost tumbler.

  30. Cindy says:

Now this is something I cannot live without. Have tried red wigglers in a metal compost can, burying my kitchen scraps in the soil,( have no garbage disposal, thank goodness) and am working on making rain barrels in my city , but this charming little dual composter is the creme d la creme of going green.

  31. Teri says:

Top of my list is an outdoor pizza oven, but a com poster would be a great addition to our busy house hold who is committed to reuse, renewing and recycling.

  32. Marlene says:

Very poor soil where I live, my grass would love some good compost but due to being in open range, not much chance of ground compost as it would feed the mice and other unwanted critters. We either compost or haul it to the dump. The compost is my choice!

  33. Ginger says:

Danny, my husband, started a raised bed garden this year. We have been for years composting using wire. It would be so nice to have this new compost tumbler!

  34. loupeestuff says:

A Compost Tumbler Definitely! We recently moved to a huge property and it has great potential, but the gardening areas have been ignored for so long! My husband is not a fan of composting but I am going to make him a believer!
