Check Out Our Quick, Easy Closet Hardware Makeover

Remember that fantastic closet in our master bedroom? It’s been such a functional dream to live with, but after a few months of looking at it, I became… bored.

Metal knobs just weren't doing it for me anymore.

This happens often in the life of a design lover, and the feeling is often followed by a new paint job, upholstery makeover or sewing project. But in this case? All I needed was a few slabs of reclaimed wood (leftover from our Centennial Woods shelving project, as a matter of fact!) and some nails for a complete closet overhaul.

From boring metal knobs to rustic wood pulls!

The project was easy enough, and after some sanding and cutting from my resident carpenter (Hi, Ken!), the only thing left to do was screw those pulls into the closet face. To be honest, the hardest part was measuring and ensuring each pull was 100% level.

Sanding away! No one wants splinters when looking for clean socks.

Cutting our reclaimed wood into equal segments gave new life to our spare scraps.

And, of course… the big reveal!

Equal parts primitive and rustic, this closet now screams character, rather than boredom.

You know what this project means, don’t you? All that’s left to finish in the bedroom is installing a barn door and some vanity lighting, hanging a chandelier from the rafters and perhaps installing a custom nightstand unit. Progress is so, so sweet!

  2. Definitely seems more appropriate for the design direction. Love the customized "after" look and can't wait to see the barn door addition! I enjoy infusing organic elements with contemporary styling. Very nice!
