Remember the other day when I said that I thought bees might be the new chickens? That very well may be the case, but designers are still cranking out great new poultry products.

Case in point: this cool Chicken Co-op (get it?) meant for urban poultry designed by Raad Studio. The Co-op, which coyly bills its ultra-modern design as a, “chicken residence,” comes flat-packed and features, “open, loft-like spaces which liberate the lifestyles of modern chickens.” The designers definitely have a sense of humor about their coop, but they’ve also vetted it with scientists and made it easy for the city-dweller to get started. No tools are required to assemble it; just add chickens and wait for eggs.

That's seriously a chicken coop? Anna…what do you think? Is it worthy?
It is! I saw it in person at ICFF, feathers and all.
As we are moving from Atlanta, where our six chickens free range in our backyard and live in a 6 foot tall walk-in coop we built ourselves, and we wish we could live in downtown Knoxville, I grow more and more intrigued by coops like these. Would my girls be happy, healthy and safe from the elements living on the roof of a loft? They do it in NYC, right?
They do! I've seen them in front "yards" (only considered a yard by city terms) and on rooftops. The ones I've seen at Eagle Street Rooftop Farm http://rooftopfarms.org/ were very happy and pretty.
Great-looking "co-op"! The wooden bottom tray is so beautiful I am not sure I would even let the chickens use it, though. I think I would build something cheap out of plywood to take its place and save that lovely giant tray for a more elegant use!
If I had beaucoup bucks I would look into converting this "Archipod" into a home for chickens:

I just love it! Even though it looks like a cross between a coconut and a UFO, I want one for my yard. Now to find the $40,000 needed to purchase one!
Oh my gosh! I love that archipod SO much. It's like a playhouse for grown ups.
