Typically for a “vote-off” reality show, I know my favorite contestant approximately 20 minutes into the first episode. (Am I alone in this?) Sometimes my fave goes on to win, and sometimes I’m wrong, but it’s always fun to pick a favorite and cheer them on throughout the season (unless they’re booted off after the first challenge). I’ll be doing the same for HGTV Design Star Season 6. Tonight at 9/8c on HGTV, 12 designers will face off in competitive design challenges to win the ultimate prize — their own HGTV show. (And one will win fan favorite.) Candice Olson, Vern Yip and Genevieve Gorder will once again grace your TV screens as the tough and brutally honest judges. New to the cast this year are David Bromstad, as the design mentor, and Tanika Ray, as your lovely host.

I do understand that things change and sometimes even people get tired of what they are doing. However I find out that your new HOST is awful, I don’t like her AT ALL.

What??? What are you looking for in a beautiful chocolate host. She's not your stereotypical "girlfriend type". I think she great and very pretty. I believe she's a California girl, plus she's been on a few TV shows so she's right for the job of hosting. She's genuine, her accent is genuine and if you press your Mute button you'll miss her incredible hosting!! Get over it, Clive is not coming back!!!!
I would like to know what happened to all the great decorating shows. Where is Candice Olsen, Vern, Kim, and Genvieve? It seems the only shows on HGTV now are house hunting shows and they seem to be on 24/7. Please bring back the decorating shows, please.
I too am sick of all the house hunter shows. They were interesting at first, but I am sick of listening to all the rich people complaining about this, that and the other thing in kitchens, baths and about the smallness of the spaces. Get over yourselves. take some of that money you don't know what to do with and help some homeless person.
I agree!! I would like to see more decorating show for not only the nicer homes but the run down older homes like what I live in. Plain old down home living in the south where your home may have cost $15-$20K if your lucky!!! Let's see someone from HGTV design this kind of home! But yes there should be more design shows on. I agree. Let us see some designers do something with our homes that are in the $150-300K Range. Not all of us are millionaires. Let us see some really creative design ideas for those of us who are in the poor column. I get tired of the shows that show rich people complaining about the size of rooms, the quality of the kitchen appliances and the view or lack thereof. Please let us see some real design
I agree. I hate the fact that all I see some days is House Hunting 24/7. It is so boring. Please bring back some of the really great design shows. Like Joan and the Color show and Candace and Vern Uip.Let is see something besides looking for a house to buy or rent.
I AGREE! I think the House Hunting shows are cheap to produce so that's what we're getting. I miss Decorating Cents and others like it. So as a result I watch very little HGTV.
I agree. I am over the rich and famous taking over everything. If the economy was good, we wouldn't even see them. They are constantly taking advantage of us. They use us to keep their lifestyles up and now they and encroaching our shows. Funny thing is when is the last time one of them actually sat down and watch an HGTV marathon? Probably NEVER. When the economy gets better, you won't see them on TV either! I am over it!
I LOVED THE SHOW, WAS QUITE SURPRISED AT SOME OF THE WORK DONE, IF THAT'S WHAT YOUV'E GOT, AND THAT'S WHAT YOU'D DO FOR A FIRST IMPRESSION… WOW.. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT, THIS IS SUCH AN OPPORTUNITY.. Omg Design Star… I've watched every season and have to say that Tanika Ray is the most annoying host I've ever witnessed. I literally cringe every time she speaks.
Thank YOU. She is sooooo fake. If she could find a way to be less robotic and more sincere it would be easier to watch. She makes me cringe too!
I'd much rather listen to Tanika than watch a show staring Cathy any day of the week. Talk about cringing, that's what I do just knowing that Cathy made it another week!!!!!
I agree whole heartedly. I can't stand her voice, I just want to turn her off. She's basically pointless, give David her duties on top of mentoring and get rid of her!

Tanika Ray is the most off-putting host I've ever seen. How did she get this gig? She adds NOTHING to the proceedings; if they edited her out, the show would be so much better.

Clive is missed! Tanika Ray is hard to listen to and doesn't add the "Class" that Clive brought to the show. The overall show is better than last season, but Clive is definitely missed. This was my favorite show, but season 4 and 5 were really hard to watch – can't stand Antonio and the challenges last season were too team oriented and it was hard to pick out a good designer. But Clive is defnitely missed! Come on, HGTV! Where is he and why isn't he part of your line-up anymore?

i thought that i was the only person who HATED to see tanika ray on design star, but i just happened to find this site and have to agree with everyone who is against her being on this show. she is so self centered that she she appears worried only about how she looks than in the contestant when she has to tell that contestant that he is being eliminated. also what does tanika ray have to do with designing homes ANYWAY. why not get a previous winner of design star to take the tanika ray slot. i have to say this because some people are so afraid to say what they are feeling about tanika's presence just because she is black. but i am a black woman and i have watched HGTV for many, many years. i have loved tanika on that entertainment show she used to do and i liked her a lot on the one episode of beveryly hills fabulous. however, she does not do this design star show any justice and should be replaced quickly with someone who is a better fit.

Glad to see HGTV has a lot of opinionated viewers…thought I was the only one. I love Tanika and think her chemistry with David is spot on… What I am over, is the rich and famous taking over the common folk shows. I watch HGTV because you could view regular people with every day issues and concerns. Let Jersey Shore stay on that channel and bring in the hosts from the other Design Star shows.

Tanika Ray is awful…every time she opens her mouth, I have to hit the mute button. If she's back next season, I will be sure to pass on what used to be one of my favorite shows. Love David Bromstad though, he continues to be worth watching!
If Tanika Ray is still the host next season, I hope she reads all the comments and makes changes for the better. She is trying hard to be "perfect" and instead it is making her look like an over-the-top "phony". There are rare moments when she seems genuine and that's when she is lovely……. very rare moments but I know she has it in her to tone down her current hosting style. Maybe she couldn't see how she came off while taping, but the producers, directors and even the judges should have seen it and should have taken action right away to fix it. Everyone involved has a responsibility toward making their show a success. You don't want to turn off viewers.
It's the…dramatic pauses…when nothing dramatic…is being said…that is CERTAINLY…the most…annoying thing…about TANIKA RAY. Very unnatural cadence and delivery to her speech that is tough to process.

The weekend shows suck!! What happened to all of the great Saturday and Sunday shows that use to be on? That is the only time I get to watch HGTV. I am SICK and TIRED of House Hunters and Virgin House Hunters. A full day of Virgin House Hunters???? Are you kidding???? And how about a few gardening shows. Isn't this channel call Home and Garden TV? Seriously, you have beat the House Hunter shows to death. Please bring back Sara's House, Candice Olsen, the show where the couples picked the colors for their room being decorated and some gardening shows. PLEASE!
I agree. I used to love HGTV but I guess that they are trying to appeal to a younger demographic than I am in. I liked that kind of goofy guy with the mustache and his garden show, the Design Challenge, so many of the old shows. Absolutely don't understand why so many real estate shows. Love all things Sarah.
Watching HGTV and wife made comment, because she watches more programsthan me, there are no programs targeted toward the 60 years old and up. HEY HGTV!!!! We Senior Citizens have more money to spend, on our homes, than younger folks because kids are gone and we like to keep what we have. I'm not saying all of us but it would be nice to see a few programs, with advertising targeted for us, that have maybe some older host with Traditional tastes fixing up homes with with a thousand dollar limit. No feathers on walls. No black or fire engine paint. Just simple colors that are not "cool", but praticial. Think about it HGTV. I think you guys are missing the boat on drawing in an older crowd that will look at your advertising and probably buy. Oh, and we'll watch more too.
Great idea – being a senior myself – would love some ideas re: using what we have in a new way or how to get a new look without knocking out walls and spending a fortune. The other shows are fun, but, would love something that relates to our age group.
Delighted with Meg's win- even more than I was disappointed in Emily winning last year. Many thanks to Sabrina Soto for her wonderful tip re: using auto glass cleaner on home windows – at last a streak free shine. I'm also enjoying her new show. Appreciate your listening to us asking for the look for less type show. What's next for David – I just love his shows – he adds something to any show he's on- Yea, David !!!
