Bold color is back in a big way. We dubbed lime July’s color of the month, and we’ve seen an influx of brightly colored furniture and paint palettes saturating the market. One of our favorite finds this season is Dovecote Decor’s spunky Wangright Lacquer Cocktail Tables. These little gems are perfect side tables or look ultra-chic grouped together to form a coffee table. And while they are the essence of uptown style, a chance flea market find inspired the designer behind them.

Docecote Decor Side Tables

We want one Design Happens reader to take home a cocktail table in their choice of color (blue, yellow, orange, white or LIME!). To enter for a chance to win, just leave us a comment in the field below before 12/11c Monday, July 18.

This week’s question: Are you into repurposing flea market, yard sale and thrifting finds? Or are you all about the instant satisfaction of store bought beauties?

I love the challenge of repurposing! It can create unique treasures that bring out your personality as well
as preserve some family history. I have repurposed things from my grandparents and otherpieces from my
father's century old barn. The difficulty is getting all to fit together. Love the tables! Inspire more searching for treasures!

Flea market finds are the way to go. I've been trying different things and this table would be PERFECT to complete the look.

I like mixing the old with the new, and love re-purposing inexpensive finds. I think using a fleas market find in a different way than it's intended use is fun. I've used many thing for pant stands, like 4 louvered short shutter panels hinged together and spray painted, or an old chandelier spray painted a flat black and filled with little solar torches and hung from a tree. I plant in many of my finds,

Question: Are you into repurposing flea market, yard sale and thrifting finds? Or are you all about the instant satisfaction of store bought beauties?

Answer: We just spent the entire afternoon/evening searching every thrift store, salvage yard, and flea market in town for a slim bookcase for the nursery of our new daughter and son…with no luck! Had hoped to paint one as I have other pieces in my elder childrens' rooms. Found some great new pieces, but unfortunately, international adoption has knocked that option out of the budget! :)

I actually enjoy the instant satisfaction fromnstore bought furniture and accessories becuse I have such limited time as a single working mother, struggling to make ends meet. I have been through 2 layoffs in the past 3 years, and had purchased a home shortly before the first layoff. I have not been able to buy or even re-purpose very much furniture. In fact, I don't even have a cocktail table…so the orange table would mean so much to me and my household. I have used my all of my spare funds to save and keep my home and put food on the table, and the table would really help make the family room look cozy and put together. I have a brick/orange accent wall, and the orange version of the table would truly look like it was custom made for that room.

I love the idea of re-purposing furniture, though I have a tough time trying new things sometimes:( I LOVE going to thrift stores and yards sales though. I hope to gain inspiration and the confidence to be able to take chances and trust myself to fix up a piece of furniture by reading this blog as well as watching HGTV all the time!!!!! I absolutely LOVE these tables as well – they are wonderful:)

I enjoy the satisfaction of a good sweat equity piece that I repurposed. However, sometimes when you see something you gotta have instant gratification can't be beat!!

  8. Darlene says:

Really…I would love to have the craft of repurposing flea market finds; however, I do not really have the skill and know how to successfully pull it off…Real Talk. I did buy a old door with peeling paint…with hopes of refurbishing it into a divider. I had hopes of cutting out the window openings and putting in mirrors, windows, or something unique and displaying it as just that…:A Flea Market Find Restructured". I still have the door…it is too nice to get rid of it…and one day…when I get the proper tools and most important tool of all…"No Fear" I will turn this old door into a room divider or table top for outdoor seating for family and friends. Wish Me Luck!!! Darlene E

I like both. I've been re-purposing since I was 6! Finding an perfect piece that changes a room without a bit of work is great too. Tough question. Depends on how much time and energy I have.

It is such a joy to take something that is a bit worn, not in the best of shape, and making it functional and beautiful again. I am all for repurposing, why waste?

  12. Stephanie says:

I love the pop of color. They are fabulous!

  13. Kristin says:

Oh so fun – love the white! I'm definitely not crafty – so I'm all about the guarantee of the instant satisfaction of store bought beauties. :)

I tend to do all. Nothing can describe the feeling you get when you find that perfect piece that you have been looking for. It really doesn't matter where it came from. Of course finding it at a thrift store is a bonus!

  16. Kathy Cooper says:

I repurpose every day of my life. I have reached the point where I want to find ways to use things or let them go. So besides the obvious repurposing of things I find at junk stores I repurpose within my house. Moving things around and finding new ways to make them useful. I am also a painter (floorcloths) so this is a natural part of my life!

  17. DeKarat says:

I love to re-purpose but would always keep my eye out for a good bargain if I couldn't find something that would work.

  18. Sue f says:

These are so cute! I would love to have one to put beside my bed – I have a small space between my bed and the wall and it is hard to find something to fit the space.

  19. Cheryl W says:

I love flea markets and garage sales, but prefer my furniture to be store bought beauties!

  20. annie says:

I love the combination of flea market finds mixed in with some classic modern pieces like my saarinen tables and knoll Barcelona chairs I adore these tables both for a shot of color and the the great lines.

  21. Ronnie Gunn Tucker says:

Great timeless style updated with smashing color. Way to go! I love giveaways.
I'm a DYIer. Paint is my friend! Love seeing old pieces transformed with a little elbow grease.

  22. Bethany P. says:

I am just getting into repurposing flea market finds. I actually just bought a stripped china cabinet at the flea market this weekend that, with a little wallpaper and white paint, I plan to turn into a beautiful addition to my future nursery! An old Westinghouse fan… the perfect addition instead of what would have been an unused lamp in the corner of my living room. I love that people like Emily Henderson have come along to also show the world just how modern and chic "flea market" can be. I love this table! it would be a great, quirky addition to my home.

I am a thrift shop queen! And, by the way, I absolutely love the tables!

  24. Christen says:

I would love one of these tables!!
    pick me pick me:)

  25. Katy says:

I need this table! Simply stunning! Pick me! Pick me! Oh…and I am a fan of repurposing old furniture from garage sales, flea markets or that have been abandoned on the corner. People throw out amazing pieces , that if given a little tlc can be fabulous! You can acheive a custom desiner look rather inexpensively with a little sandpaper, spray paint and some imagination!

  26. Barbara JT says:

A little spritz of vibrant color in our family room is just what we need. Choose me!

  27. sdecarlo says:

I've been "repurposing" since the day I got my first apartment–over 30 years ago–but I haven't always used that term. Most projects are a combination of a current need and something that my parents, grandparents, or great-grandparents used in their homes. My husband and I are beginning our largest repurposing project ever, though, with the goal of updating the home my grandparents bought in 1945. It was originally built around 1924, but needs to be repurposed for us as we move to the next phase of life–empty-nesters with adult children (thus anticipating family gatherings and grandchildren!). I foresee many projects after the structure is complete, keeping the spirit of past generations in the home while giving it modern conveniences. The tables featured this week look like something I would use on the covered back porch I've envisioned!

  28. beautiful tables.

I love a good yard sale and the treasures I find . I have some really nice pieces I've refinished. I do like store bought also and I love these tables!

  30. Felipe33 says:

Seeing as how good I am with my hands, I usually try to make cool things for the house or I go thrifting. The tables are cool.

  31. Barbara Marks says:

I just absolutely love these tables…Would be a great addition anywhere in my home.

  32. Jen says:

I'm a tightwad who enjoys the satisfaction of transforming trash into treasures. Definitely hand-me-downs and/or thrift store/garage sale finds. Not only is it cheaper, but it is so gratifying to create something yourself, exactly the way you want it! My favorites are hand-me-downs that have been in the family. I love pieces that have meaning! Check out my hubby's childhood bed-turned bench http://www.scissorsandspatulas.com/2011/05/as-pro
Here is granny's old dresser now in my dining room http://www.scissorsandspatulas.com/2011/06/granny

  33. B Wynn says:

With the economy being as it is, I'm always looking for items that I can redo myself to save money. Of course, it would be nice to have the instant gratification of going out & buying the perfect pieces needed. I opt to use my own creativity to makebeautiful pieces from yard sale/ estate items whenever given the opportunity. Health issues & life's priorities usually leave me very little time to "get my creativity on", but oh how I love being creative!!

  34. PattyJ says:

My motto is a little old, and a little new…to create balance.

  35. Carrie Conley says:

I am into both store purchase and repurposing

  36. Emily says:

I love repurposing things! My most recent project is making lanterns out of Ball jars, wire, and tea lights. When hung under a market umbrella it is just beautiful.

  37. SWEETJANEY says:

I recently purchased a very old rocking chair($15) that I plan to re-purpose & maybe I'll paint it July's color of the month-Lime Green, to go with the table I win on Freebie Fridays- WootWoot :)

  38. Megan says:

I love repurposing furniture! Craigslist wreaks havoc on my bank account regularly. These little table would.be a great addition to my collection:)

  39. Rachel says:

I like to combine both new items and consignment store finds! It's amazing what a coat of paint or just some new fabric can do for a piece of furniture. My house has an eclectic feel because of this, and my bank account likes the consignment finds!

  40. marios says:

Flea Market Finds are the way to go. You get to combine the hunt for a shape you love and then are able to customize it for your particular space. This takes a bit more effort but the reward is much higher. You will have a peice of furniture that tells a story each time you look at it.

  41. Mary says:

I shop at garage and estate sales. My two favorites are 1950's cedar chests that I stripped and refinished. One is a blanket chest and another is my coffee table!
