The fun and free days of summer are pretty much over. But it’s not all that bad. There’s still the final hurrah of Labor Day weekend. And that’s followed by cooler weather and fall colors. For those of you staying put for the unofficial end of summer, we have just the DIY project for you. (And if the only thing you plan on lifting this weekend is a beer or grill spatula, we promise you’ll love the benefits of all your labor once you see the finished product.)

Just look at that beautiful hanging daybed. You can’t tell me that some drilling, cutting, gluing and sanding aren’t worth the steady back-and-forth swinging of a daybed (built by you) as you slowly fall asleep surrounded by a cool, summer breeze. While it may seem like a project only Carter Oosterhouse should take on, we promise that you can do it just as easily. Designer Ana White has included computer-generated diagrams within the instructions that make attaching each piece a cinch. So head over to HGTV.com for the detailed materials list and instructions to create your own DIY hanging daybed. And in the meantime, check out these whimsical daybeds to get you in the mood.

Once you’re back to work on Tuesday, let us know how your project turned out.

Tell us all about your new, dreamy daybed in the comments below.

I could see this set up on a covered or screened in porch or outdoor shelter. Love this idea.
