Rainy days inside (there have been too many of them lately here in New York for my taste) always make me want to curl up in bed. The kid version of that feeling? Wanting to build a kick-butt fort. Usually fort-building involves tearing the couch apart, but this DIY table slipcover fort I spied on The Artful Parent is a much more elegant, mess-free solution.

The windows are genius additions, and it seems like it would be so cozy to read in there. Can someone please craft a grown-up version for me? Pretty please?

While this is a "more elegant, mess-free solution," the less elegant, messier forts created by children during free play benefits them so much more: building imagination, promoting social skills and physical development, learning about gravity, balance and design, to name just a few benefits.

That's a great point, Martha! There's no substitute for good old fashioned couch cushions and cardboard boxes to inspire kids' imagination and design, amongst other things. As a kid, I made use of those, but also remember having a tiny Mickey Mouse tent constantly up in the living room where I would duck inside to read. I think they both have a place. :)

It looks awesome and fabulous. The arrangement made is really good and place selection is the best. It looks attractive with the design and sophisticated arrangement. I like it at first glance.

great idea for apartment living especially for those long winter days. More fun and affordable than Little Tyke or other premade forts which are not available (nor do some apartment have hte starage space) everywhere in the world.
