So my production company is in Park City, Utah, shooting the online videos for the 2012 HGTV Dream Home. Um? Oh. My. Gawd. For any of you who’ve yet to experience this magical state, which is easily the most gorgeous place in the world, you are missin’ out, y’all! Everywhere you look, there’s picturesque scenery packed with to-die-for colors.

Inspiring Kitchens from HGTV Dream Homes Past

And although Utah itself is incredible, the 2012 HGTV Dream Home is just as spectacular. Designer Linda Woodrum has done it again. This time, the house is right smack in the center of a rustic piece of property, which looks out over the Provo River and onto gorgeous Utah mountains. The interiors are transitional and neutral, spotlighting the blue tones from the Utah sky, which Linda used in a subtle, sophisticated manner.

Dream Home 2012: Furniture Load-In Day

And although I’m stoked to be here working on it, I can’t help but think to myself, “It really sucks that I’m disqualified from winning it.”

Utah

All y’all who are eligible to win better plan to get crackin’ when the sweepstakes starts on Dec. 29, 2011, at 9am ET. (You’ll be able to tour the house starting Dec. 1 — until then, stay up-to-date at Dream Home Central.) A life in Utah would be the closest thing to heaven on earth there is. Stay tuned!

I can't wait to get a good look at this house — a few more preview pictures, please!

  3. beehivestate says:

Looks like Linda did curtains on the back deck. Nice!

    I can't wait!!!!!!! :)

The view is wonderful and the outdoor room provides a comfortable, relaxing area to take it all in!
Look at it this way, BPF. You may not be able to enter the contest but right now we can't enter the
    Dream Home! You can!

  6. AndreaJ says:

It's in Midway right? I LOVE Midway! My in-laws retired there and it truly is heavenly.

  7. WishingforIt says:

Love this pix. Although, I think this weekend it might be a more snowy view. Read the Pella post where it said the great room has 12 doors. Love all the access to the outdoors, but after the snake incident at Weber State University this week, I think I would need screen doors on any doors to the outside to prevent critters from creeping in ;-) The print shop at WSU is in the foothills of Ogden and they propped an exterior door open to allow the great warm fall weather to come in and not only did it, but also 4 small rattlesnakes came in too! I think the DH would only need to worry about skunks, hehehehe, being in the river bottoms.

Thank you for the preview picture of Linda's backporch (with curtains). It gives a nice sense of nestling to balance the huge, endless landscape. It brings it all together and keeps it comforting. …So with this preview how shall we wait thru two months for the grand video of the wonderful interior? I may not make it!
I saw an Arch Digest shoot of Ted Turner's get-a-way in a similar terrain (on a flood plain, mountains in the distance) but for him no houses around anywhere!
There the designer used a one-storey, Spanish-style stucco wall along one side of the house with a garden/walkway (about 30 feet wide) between it and his home in order to counter the sense of being isolated, since the house was the only one on acre upon acres of endless landscape.
Beautiful but balanced with warmth. Like Linda's curtained porch is.

Thanks ,for the picture & nice comment about Midway Utah. But I am all ready smitten with the D.H & land, from the HGTV Dream Home Blog.! You should check it out.

  10. DBCoop says:

Okay, I really shouldn't whine TOO much, but maybe just a little will be good for my emotional well-being. I mean, let's face it, I DID get to visit the Dream Home in situ the first days of August, and even chat with the famous celebrity Jack T. How lucky is that?!

Nonetheless, I'm green with envy (and perhaps even a tinge of Linda Woodrum's subtle and sophisticated blues) that Brian gets to enjoy the full-on, furnished Dream Home experience while getting paid to do it! How could anyone ask for more than that? Well they could, and he did, as a matter of fact — wistfully wishing for that unattainable opportunity to win this magical DH as well as photograph it.

Therefore, under the circumstances, I'm taking the longer-term view, Brian. I'll wait to view all of your great photographic work in exchange for the chance to win the home!

    Bonne chance, mes amis!

That's pretty lucky Coop !! Did he bring you fly fishing? Your quite the world traveler Coop, maybe that's why your posts are so witty. :) B)

      • DBCoop says:

That WAS lucky to run into Jack T in Midway, although he was awfully busy as you might imagine and didn't have time to go fly fishing — but I hope that when we get around to the big drawing of the winner's name that this Dream Home isn't the one that got away from me. I'll just have to be sure I use the right lure, which in this case will be not to miss a single one of those daily entries! Otherwise, I'll have plenty of "fish stories" to tell about how I allllmost netted that beauty!

  11. Terri1 says:

Well Brian you are an interesting to read blogger. I love that phrase, "it's the closest thing to heaven on earth." I can't see enough photos or videos yet, but if the house follows the rule of the other past Dream Homes that phrase says it all. I pray I win this year, and in the meantime I'm fervently waiting to see your tour shots. Sorry you're disqualified.

    Hi
We understand as contractors you work hard to earn your money and therefore we want to help you retain as much as possible. Historically lenders have penalised contractors when it comes to sourcing a mortgage. They see permies as a better bet.

Arghhh, just when I can't wait to see the preview the clock falls back one hour, lol !! I'll set my calender for the 1st of December to take in all the spectacular things HGTV does along with the views of Midway, UT !!

  14. Nate says:

I've been living in Utah for about 6 years now and I have to say the Park City/Provo River area is extremely beautiful. Winning a home there would be amazing. I'm pretty excited about touring the house (it will only be about a 30 minute drive for me to get there). Wahoo!

    Nate

  15. beehivestate says:

I put up a few new pictures of the back, on the main blog. There are solar panels on the roof on the southeast side.

  16. Denise Petersen says:

I can't wait to have the opportunity to see this amazing house! I live about 45 minutes away and love the scenery of the beautiful mountains in the area. Someone is going to be surprised by winning this exceptional home. What would it be like to spend the evenings at sunset gazing upon the scenery and abundant wildlife in the area. I am always amazed at the amount of talent that goes into the dream homes.

    Hello Wishingforit
For some reason I cannot reply to your comment. So here goes…..Creeping critters have also been a concern of mine. Not being familiar with the area, I had some concerns about snakes, scorpions, field mice, and other "critters" that might seek shelter in or underneath the patios. Are homes in the river bottoms exempt from the prospect of such unwanted visitors? And what about mosquitoes because of the proximity of water and high weeds?

    • WishingforIt says:

I think Bee could give you a lot of information on this, but there are no scorpions in Midway. Too cold. Mice could be a problem as it would in any field-type area. The river moves fast enough that mosquitoes wouldn't be too much of an issue. Might get a water snake or two in yard. We enjoyed one of those camping at Bear Lake this summer (northern Utah). Skunks like the water and I've seen deer in the yards in Midway. There was a bear sighted in the river bottoms not too far from the Dream Home last spring. I saw the signs on the walking trail by the river. When you live on the "edge" of city/rural, there is a balance to it all. I think if you keep a clean home/yard and keep the trash bins latched, it shouldn't be too much of a problem. But it could make for some interesting blogs!

  18. Sharon_in_MO says:

I'm getting so excited about this house!!! I have officially become obsessed with it.

  19. Beth Moffett says:

Oh give me a home where the buffalo roam….. sound like it! I was so sad I didn't win the blog cabin and then I was reminded of this which I made my screensaver a while ago. Thank goodness HGTV keeps us busy trying to win beautiful homes.

  20. Mike says:

What a beautiful place and scenery. This would be a great place to sit back and relax away from the hustle and bussel of big city life.

  21. Martha Elmore says:

Isn't that something! Signing up to win HGTV Giveaway/Blog Cabin has become a part time job for me. I enjoy doing it and who no's maybe I will end up in Utah. A new start in a different state could be just the thing I need.

  22. charlene mello says:

  23. Kim AZ says:

If I win the house, my husband and I will turn it into a house for troubled teens. What a grand place to inspire young people.

  24. mymakersdaughter says:

When can you start entering daily? It would mean the world if my parents won this house. I don't know anyone who deserves it more. :) Looking forward to seeing who wins.

  25. LPardini says:

Great picture! It looks like the perfect spot to sip some hot cocoa in your robe and slippers!!!

  26. wannalife says:

Questions, questions, questions. Snow days – are the roads plowed and maintained to ease in transportation. Also, can the design team post an updated floor plan. Some of the changes have left me clueless as to where the 4th bathroom and poweder room are situated. Love the house. Love there is no TV in the great room. My family has a problem conversing without a TV playing in the back ground. Is the family wing still sound proofed since the kids bunk area is now tucked under the stairwell.

  28. The house Fitz says:

My husband and daughter and I drove up to Midway on Thur (first day to enter the sweepstakes) and gazed around. We are officially in love and have assigned all of the rooms to the right person. I have 4 active grandsons that have no room to play in our current rental home, so this is the place for us! I also have elderly parents that could make the guest suite their home. I just love everything about it, including it's location. Midway/Heber/Park City/Francis – they're all areas we love. No reason not to move there as my husband commutes 55 miles to SLC as it is. This would make his commute a lot faster!!!

  29. Sdream says:

It has always been our dream for my husband and I to retire in Midway. We have always felt that we can breath there! This home is completely perfect! Since the economy tanked our dream has been just a dream. Now there is a slight hope. Midway is completely beautiful and small enough to breath.

  30. ddavey says:

It Would be the most wonderful opportunity to win this beautiful home in Midway. I lived there years ago in a home we built on the Provo River, and loved it so much. But misfortune forced us to sell it and I haven't been the same since. I love everything about that wonderful community…I wanna go BACK!

  31. Fabulosity says:

I am not able to get on and blog as much because of my schedule but I would like to say I absolutely love this home. I love how the blue skies from the outside is invited into the blue accents in the main seating area. I also love the fact that everything in this seating area is not covered in green; this time there's a real classy statement being made with this particular house. I am also a huge fan of fireplaces too. With the fireplace included in this design, not only is it a touch of class but a warm romantic feel has been added. I can definitely see me living here.

  32. Yes! says:

Park City is in the middle of my family and friends, what great halfway house!

  33. Steve DuBose says:

What a beautiful place for a Dream Home! Georgeous scenes in every direction. Someone is going to be very blessed and happy!
