As far as I’m concerned, my dog Chauncey is like Mary Poppins: Practically perfect in every way. Except his constant habit of getting under foot while I’m cooking. (Okay, that and a stinky breath thing, but we’re working on that with some poultry-flavored enzymatic toothpaste.) It’s actually endearing, but considering that he’s a mini dachshund and we own some serious chef’s knives, I’m always worried that one of us is going to get hurt. If only we had this kitchen island dog bed by Cook Architectural Design Studio, as featured on Houzz!

I love that idea – but my ktichen is so tiny I would have to lose my one under-countertop cabinet to make room for a dog bed.
In the dream house though….. one day…..
PS: For stinky breath, my dog suffers too (rotten fish version). She won't let us clean her teeth, but she'll let the groomer do it, and every year the vet gives her a general anaesthetic for a professional clean. If they don't like the little green chew things that are good for their teeth, give them a raw chicken wing once a week, and there is also a Hills Prescription Diet for dogs teeth, that is abrasive and helps keep the gunk off when they're chewing. All this works to keep it under control. Good luck!

This is a really cool idea. I have two golden retrievers and they are always laying in the kitchen and very hard to get around them. This would be a perfect solution!
Great idea! As dog lovers, we often worry as dogs roam around in the kitchen and some safety issues might come up. But with this little haven, even dogs can have their protective shelter as they observe during cooking time!
I have thought of doing something like this for my pooches.

Dogs are social animals and want to be with their humans. They also like being inside something like this, makes them feel safe, "caving", it all goes back to when they were wolves. Its a wonderful idea and if I could I'd have this for my fur babies too.
Wow – how handy that the dogs can catch your spills on the way down. Don't dare drop a chicken leg like my daughter did once – they had to fight for it.
