Hard to believe but the holidays, with their familiar color palettes, are almost upon us (where has the time gone?!). We thought we’d shake it up a bit this year and introduce you to a hue that pairs well with the traditional red, green, blues and metallics while adding a sophisticated, cheery pop. Wanna know what it is?
Grape!

“Grape is the perfect nod to this chilly month. It reminds me of the hustle and bustle of the holidays when paired with other vibrant colors yet brings beauty and warmth when standing alone. The saturated hue catches the eye and is a great accent color to any holiday celebration.” —Farima Alavi, Assistant Editor
Brian Patrick Flynn for hgtv.com
”This isn’t the purple you were in love with as a kid. It’s saturated, masculine and just a touch royal. It lends itself well to textures, from velvet to satin, and depending on how you style it, it can be sophisticated or punky. The only thing it can’t ever be, is ignored.” —Briana Mowrey, Senior Online Editor

“A great complement to silver, black and rich jewel tones, grape is the perfect “notice me” hue to add to your holiday party palette. Or pair it with teal and pool blue to add a jolt of electricity to your decor all winter long.” —Liz Gray, Senior Online Editor

“This grape is so electric, it practically fizzes. It’s an unexpected choice for the holidays, yet it makes perfect sense.” —Marianne Canada, HGTV Home Studio

“Pair grape with tan and chocolate hues for a warm, luxurious look and feel that can easily work all year long. Entertaining for the holidays? Pull in a pop of grape with silver or cobalt for a sophisticated pairing that’s just right for frosty Christmas gatherings.” – Kayla Kitts, Assistant Editor
We want to hear from you. Do you agree that grape is great? Will you include it in your holiday decor or entertaining plans this year?

I have had this color in my living room for many years, (LOVE IT) just now trying to decide if I want to replace the grape colored carpet for hardwood, but you have given me some great ideas to incorporte my FAVORITE color in other ways and I love it with the pool blue. A family member gave me some great mid-century channel-backed chairs and I love the idea of doing them in purple leather instead of the white that I was thinking of. You have given me lots to think of!! Now I just need to make a decision and do it!
I am drooling over the idea of purple leather on your chairs! That sounds amazing.
Gorgeous- especially against the white backdrop of the tree.
How awesome! I'm an artist and have fallen in love with the color purple. I have an art painting class I teach called "Revealing the Color Purple", perhaps I should change it to "Glamorous Grape"!
You can see one of my watercolor prints from Etys shop ;http://www.etsy.com/listing/82930568/print-purple-iris-watercolor-8×10-giclee
I also do commissions for black & white paintings and would like to have suggestions for decorating other than placing on a red wall. I've asked 2 other sources and received no feedback, would appreciate your help!
Black & White art:
This was a commission for a salon, they placed it on a red wall

Can anyone tell me where I can purchase the HGTV magazine, what stores carry it? It states available on newsstands now but so far I can't find any!!!
I got mine at Lowes
Hi Dawn, I found it at Barnes and Noble in Philly. Love it!!
I am a fan of the new color of the month. I love purple and the deep rich grape color is great in any space and awesome with the combinations that you came up with!
Enchanting, whimsy, magical, dreamy, wonderful . . .

I love HGTV but two new shows make me change the channel. They are Love It or List It and My Money Your House. The people are obnoxious and the yelling drives me away. I watch HGTV for ideas, creativity and inspiration not yelling. Please either take these shows off or have the people work together. If I wanted confrontation I would watch Judge Judy!!
I totally agree. The designer and real estate agent seem very confrontational. Because of this, it is very uncomfortable to watch. The premise of each show sounded interesting, but so far have only been disappointing.
I too was intrigued by the concept of the show but find it way too hostile. I won't watch it anymore.
I REALLY like both Love It or List It and My Money Your House – both VERY entertaining! Nice to see something besides House Hunters!

Purple is a great choice for the home but if "Grape" is a little too much hue for you, try Magic Potion which is a beautiful muted, much softer Benjamin Moore color. I've used it for many of my clients as a romantic Master bedroom color.

Since I am unsure of how to comment on a "Dear Genevieve" tv segment, I will comment here. Maybe the word will get to her production company. I have seen this particular segment of her show at least twice and each time I give a little laugh. It is the show of the remake of a condo of a single batchelor in Hoboken, NJ. Genevieve and her group redoes his room in a very masculine way. Anyway, they bring in a printing of a painting of a Civil War soldier to hang in a grouping of other prints. They announce the print as being "General Ulysses Grant" but if I am correct, it is a painting of "General Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson," a Confederate General. The owner of the apartment seems to be of mixed ethnicity with some African American in him. Being from the South, I think General Jackson was a great general, but to the average African American, he might think differently. It might be a good time to study the lives of Generals Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson and J.E.B Stuart and others to learn of them and their great lives and exploits, even though they fought for the wrong cause. Best wishes.
