Well, it's official – Dream Home 2012 is my favorite of them all.
The dream house is awful. I live in Utah and it is so impractical. Have you been here in the winter? The outside features are not useable for 4 months. It is too big and, at times, way too gawdy. It looks more like someone's version of Utah, and what it means to live here. You have done better, and I wish you would have given more thought to its entire concept.
Amen, my friend. I don't think it is awful, (it is gorgeous) but impractical? Yes. And I second the thought of it being someone's version of Utah. Utah is made up of a lot of people who believe in family togetherness. The kitchen is a bit small, but that is okay. What I wish is that the entire house weren't designed to keep everybody separated. Each bedroom is completely isolated. The family room is either outside or on the far end of the house. Just disappointed I guess.
Oh and one more thing about the "somebody's version of Utah" thing. I had to giggle a bit at the saloon inspiration. Saloons? Ummmmm Mormons. When the original homestead story might have begun, there would have been no saloons, alcohol or saloon girls. Perhaps pioneers to go along with the homestead theme instead. Oh well, it is still beautiful. But if I were to win, (and that would be amazing!) I might be tempted to take the opt out prize.
I love Guest Bedroom 1, the sauna and the kitchen.
The kitchen is great because you have both wine and spice storage, and a heap of countertop space. We only have 4 feet of countertop space and wine and spices are each stored in different rooms.
I love the colours and the light in the guest bedroom – in fact, I prefer it over the master. It's the sort of room you can wake up happy in, every morning.
The one thing I would worry about is the outdoor jacuzzi – how would that handle the snow and winters? Wouldn't it crack or need to be taken inside? That and the heating bill for such a big house.
Solar panels! That would pay for the electric heating. You don't have to bring it inside, as there is probably a cover for it. But still, there is way too much focus for the outdoor entertaining. It is really cold in the winter and the spring is pretty much a big ball of cold mushy slush coupled with wind. So, that is too bad.
I like the simplicity of the kitchen cabinets and the horizontal bar pull hardware, a look that would make Jeff Lewis (of "FLIPPING OUT") smile.
WOW, sign me up! I love the modern feel HGTV is always bringing to the dream homes. I love the classic stone walls mixed with modern color and cabinetry. There is much to be said for a design that can incorporate old and new. Out door Jacuzzi, here we come! Thanks HGTV, you have impresses us once again….

Wow, I'd be happy to just have a weekend visit here…but winning would be so awesome! Seasons seem a lot like here, so easy adjustment.
And to have a house NOT upside down, no mortgage…amazing thought!
Will this year will be the first year That i can be eligible to win it. I've been sing my mom up for years..
The directions for entering state that all you have to do after completing all personal information one time is to only enter your e-mail address each time there after, however, I've entered each day so far and entered my e-mail address and this does not work. Also the website is very slow. Is anyone else having this problem?
Some browsers delete your cookies at the end of each session. If you are using one of those you need to exclude HGTV & FD to get the feature to work. Or, you could just leave the computer on and browser open. Hope this helps!
I'm wondering what is behind the master bed? Is that all closet space?
I think that is just a wall of curtains made to look like perhaps another window in the room. It is just an illusional feature, but very tastefully done.
It is a wall and a vent pipe going up inside one side of the framework. If you look at it being built, you will see a shiny silver pipe going up to the roof for ventilation from the kitchen. They decided to build a framework around it through architecture, and soften it up with drapery.
I absolutely love this home. Park City is so beautiful and the community seems amazing. This is such a dream. If I won, it would be so wonderful, puts me back closer to my family. We recently had to move to Kentucky from California due to work availability. It would so wonderful to see my family again and be close to my newly born grandson.
This home isn't in Park City, UT. This home is located in Midway, UT which is about ten minutes away from Park City. Midway is in Wasatch county and not Summit county. I'm not sure why they are saying Park City, when Midway has so much more to offer. It's less crowded, great schools and majestic, untouched views. Whoever is lucky enough to win this home will love it's actual location!
This home is everyones dream. Unbelieveable majestic. This would be wonderful to retire to this year and have the family call it there dream home.
I'm a retired wildlife biologist. When I look at the site of this "dream home" I have to cringe. It's built in the middle of a big game winter range that is likely critical to the longterm survival of some deer and elk. If you could talk to field biologists that work for Utah Dept Natural Resources wildlife program, they'd probably agree that putting a house here was a horrible idea for wildlife. But, I'm sure HGTV never looks at that nor do the people who think this is so wonderful.
I love that you care about the wildlife as much as I do, I do live this home but really it would take to much money to keep this house runing without going broke.
In all honesty. I am disappointed at this idea. The only way this could be a dream house is just that. Only millionaires can afford the up keep. Anyone who dreams this big has to have a lot of money. It would
serve a better purpose for those who need to have a house and make it affordable. You could make several homes compared to this huge breathtaking home.
I am not normally a negative lady but this just doesn't ring right to me. It's wonderful that it is all green. That rocks. Make it rock for someone in need. I am happy with my double wide mobile and the amazing landscape. Considerate an affordable home next time you want to help someone who wants to dream big!
I hav
E been entering the dream home sweepstakes for the last three years. When I find out I haven't won I jus keep on trying. The upside of that is the homes just keep getting more amazing. I love the "green" features and natural landscaping of this home. The furniture in my living room is Ethan Allen and I am so pleased with all of it.
It would be awesome to have a home full of their furniture. I retired three years ago and vacation in the southwesteach winter. Living in Utah would make that a year round vacation destination. Why leave home?
The home would be filled with family and friends year round. One change would have to be made, though.
Turn that doggie bed into a dual kitty bed.
Is there any way to find out how much the property taxes on this house will be? I imagine most people who win these homes can't afford to live in them and have to sell them…
I'm praying like everyone that I win. It would be a great opportunity to return and live in Park City! I have great memories and spent a lot of time skiing those slopes! Lots of fun to go back and live there full time again!
I always watch HGTV and when I saw the home in Park City, I thought that is close to Pocatello Idaho. So I had to register to win. I have never been there, but it would be a great place to spend with my family and friends. Like you I am praying!!!!!! goodLuck
Our 21 year old daughter has had this dream of moving to Sandy, Ut for a ski season for the past 4 years! . She worked and saved and On Nov 1, she and I started out on a 4 day drive (with her car) across country to arrive in Sandy on 11-4. She found nice rental home with nice people her age, was hired at great restaurant (where she is "earning her keep") is taking online courses to finish her BSN and snowboarding almost daily at Brighton (her Dad and I gave her a season pass as Christmas present). She is our only daughter and my best friend. She learned to love Utah from us during past ski trips. My hubby and I know she will probably extend her stay past ski season and so build her home and nursing career in Utah. We will visit her in March but winning this home would be answers to prayers! We love Utah and are ready to move to join our daughter! She has our hearts and we would love to bring our family together again…..but in Midway, Utah! This home is truly a Dream Home if there ever was one! She is entering too so hopefully one of us will be blessed!
I have been entering off and on for the past 10 years, and really loved it when Joan Steffen used to host the give away program. What ever happened to Joan? Anyway, this home is truly beautiful and the landscape is even more so. It would be a dream come true to win this home. We live in Texas, but are from South Dakota. We miss the prairie land and the hills of western So Dak. Any chance John might consider building a future Dream Home in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Now, that would be awesome !!
I hope that I win this Utah home, but I wish all the entries the best of luck. My fingers are crossed, along with my toes, my legs, my arms, and even my eyes—haha. Good luck and Happy New Year !!
I will be Happy for anyone to win this gorgeous house as I am everyyear. I would especially like to see someone who maybe lost their home in the recession madness win. Of course I would like to win to, LOL, but most of my life I have been married to "Murphy" when it coems to winning anything. This is like Christmas everyear waiting to see the faces of the winners and feeling their disbelief and excitement vicariously. God Bless and Good luck to everyone and put out that positive energy for 2012 to be a much better year!
I wish I could find where to enter this!
I can not believe that someone could actually say that this home is awful. How ungrateful. I could only dream of winning something as beautiful as this home and prize package. I have loved every house you have built and applaud the green aspect of the houses. I do believe that for someone like myself(disabled in an automobile accident) the taxes etc would not be feasible going forward but just he thrill of winning would be awe-inspiring!!! Not to mention that HGTV gives you the option of buy out. What I could do with that type of money!!! A lot people would be so grateful to win this contest and would do great things to help others with this opportunity. How anyone could actually complain about the house and aspects of the contest is beyond me -HGTV doesn't have to give away anything. Thank you HGTV!
This is the first year I've seen HGTV's Dream Home and thought: … "Does-NOT-impress-me-design." I can think of several of HGTV's designers that would have done a WAY better job. But maybe the Dream Home isn't done to feature HGTV's "best" designers.
The house is fabulous, but the interior design… (yawn) not what I'd expect from an HGTV Dream Home.
I love this house so much!!! It's beautiful i can picture my self with my family there.
Well were down to the wire now!!! I love the house and can't wait to hear who wins it!! Maybe it will be me. I would relocate in a heart beat, being a school teacher, I might can find employment there and my son plans to be a pro fisherman. Having the river right behind the house would be a big step towards his dream. So two dreams would be answered his and mine.
well Who is the winner?????????????
WOW I love this house it would be a dream to me to have this house, ohhhhh i wish i could have it!
Beautiful home! Enormous windows that treat the eyes to the fantastic views outside. Love the curtains too, simple but really luxurious. The winner of this home will be really lucky!

so…who won it??
I have been dreaming of winning this home for my 3 boys. We are relocating to Park City in the next few months. My husband is currently working for Skull Candy in Kimball Junction. He sent me a text Sat & said he was Fly Fishing in back of the home I have been trying to win & it's amazing! This would really be a dream come true for our family…
