On the third day of Christmas Daily Delights, I give to thee…THREE FRENCH HENS! (TWO TURTLE DOVES AND A PARTRIDGE IN A PEAR TREEEE!)

Again, I’m a little flummoxed by the difference between French hens and plain old hens. And no, it’s not a beret, striped shirt and a pack of Gauloises. When I Googled “French hens,” the Wikipedia entry for “Faverolles” came up, so do with that what you will. Anyway, the point is, I think if you showed up for Christmas with three Faverolles under your arms, most people would not accept that gift. But if you sent this eco-friendly Christmas card from HansMyHedgehog featuring an original illustration by Jessica Boehman, heck, they may even display it on their handy-dandy Christmas card ladder! Which is a good piece of advice to remember when shopping. Unless it’s specifically on your true love’s wish list, I’d say real fowl = a Christmas foul.

French hens would be breeds that originated in France. An Auracana would be a Spanish hen. A Delaware or Buckeye would be one of many American hens (breeds).
