I used to collect stickers in grade school, and though I was a bit obsessed with them at the time (shinies! oilies! fuzzies!), I don’t think I ever considered the possibilities beyond putting them in my sticker book. Payton Cosell Turner’s sticker wallpaper first opened my eyes. Now, Yayoi Kusama’s installation for the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art has made them BUG OUT.
Kids who visited the gallery were given dot stickers and invited to help transform a totally white space into the colorful jumble you see here. Apparently, it only took two weeks to achieve the look of the top image! No wonder the project was called The Obliteration Room. I’m sure my parents were happy that I kept my stickers within the confines of an album, but now I can’t help but wonder how cool my room might have looked if I hadn’t.

Those kids must have had so much fun! I like the bright colors, but so much pattern is hard on my eyes after a while. This room reminds me of an image I saw the other day:

I find the striped wallpaper fascinating and rather beautiful, but I couldn't look at it for long before I started getting dizzy! o.0
Whoa, yes! It reminds me of an optical illusion. Fun, but in small doses.
Ah, I love this! I wonder what my kiddo would think if I set her loose in her room with stickers?
I love her room already, but how cool would that be? (Maybe an activity for her next rainbow birthday party?
)
How cool is this?! I would have loved to do this as a kid.. or now.

Ha, me too! Makes me wish I could visit the gallery and slap up some stickers of my own. Seems oddly satisfying.
