• Tell Your Friends

Do you remember before the Internet when there were those paper things with words on pages? People called them books? Well, they still exist and there are some very good ones that are not only interesting but also useful.

Recently, my friend and fellow writer, Amy Flurry, published a book about getting your work publicized. Why am I writing about this on a decorating blog? Well, Recipe for Press is pretty much a blogger’s dream publication — it’s a DIY guide for getting spaces, products, crafts or services into the hands of editors in high places.

Recipe for Press demystifies the process of getting your story or product featured on the pages of magazines and blogs, making it possible to generate ongoing media exposure for your business without hiring a budget-busting PR firm. It answers tons of common questions and includes chapters featuring textile designer Amy Butler, chef Hugh Acheson and other remarkable artisans and business owners who have used the power of press to build their brands.

Amy shares tips like this one: the importance of being new

Now head over to Amy’s site to check it out, then get your hard work into the hands of the powers that be. And when you end up getting a full spread for your most recent project, you can send me a thank you email and a large check. Everybody wins!

I bought the book and just read it. Oh my… if I had only had it a couple of years ago! Recipe for Press is a must read for anyone with a business. Instead of forking out the 5k-10k monthly for NY PR firm – for the price of a book we can do it in-house in a dedicated and personal fashion. I can't say enough about the book!
