Last week my husband and I packed our bags and headed out west to spend three days touring the Las Vegas Market. To say it was fun is an understatement. Whoever thought of mixing the best in furniture and home decor with the fun of Las Vegas is my hero. With the backdrop of glamorous hotels, shows and those beautiful Nevada mountains, the Las Vegas Market is definitely one of my favorite home decor shows. Throughout the three days there were hundreds of showrooms to explore and some fabulous design panels. I thought I would share with you some tidbits from one of my favorite panels hosted by Sherwin Williams on 2012 color trends. On their list were blues, reds and new neutrals like corn-silk yellow, all dominating the showrooms this year.

As I toured the showroom of one of my favorite home furnishings companies, Roost, pops of crisp blue definitely stood out.

Both glassware and ceramics were in the shades of cobalt, azure and denim blue, that Sherwin Williams explained are part of the blue trend this year.

I loved the way these varying shades of blue were being blended with metallic silver and warm wood tones. The gray and brown shades allow these sparkling blue colors to really pop, as you can see here where blue tea-light holders are layered on a silver Moroccan-style tea table.

And blue doesn’t just mix well with brown, but also with tangerine and copper, too.

The color red also dominated the Las Vegas Market. Red is a shade I’ve always struggled with in decorating. It can feel so dominating in a room. A visit to the Two’s Company showroom brought me into a world of red accessories that aren’t overpowering, and are even a little bit whimsical. Take for instance, this quirky picture frame.

These porcelain canisters from Two’s Company also show how a little bit of red can go a long way. Bits of maroon and orange-red hues are used in the stripes on these canisters creating a funky retro vibe.

This suzani bowl really caught my eye. The mix of red, orange, pink and black is so sophisticated. This is a palette that you could build an entire room around.

Red doesn’t just have to come in small doses either. I fell in love with this rich red, color reform rug from Feizy Rugs. The tone has so much weight to it that it will serve as all the red you need in a living space.

The final and most interesting color trend that Sherwin Williams shared were the new neutrals. Maybe one of the most controversial moments of my visit was hearing that yellow could be considered a new neutral in 2012. Interesting right? I went out to explore this new neutral tone and found some yellows that while I can’t consider them neutral, showed the importance of this color in 2012 home furnishings. Yellow furniture pieces like this amazing outdoor chair and table from PolArt were striking.

I also discovered yellow being used in bold furniture upholstery like on these chairs from Rowe Furniture. Corn-silk yellow is a lovely complement to the soft baby blue color of these chairs.

And Two’s Company certainly took yellow to another level, pairing it with gold accents. The look is definitely Hollywood glam, but not too gaudy for today’s contemporary homes.

What do you think about the color spectrum for 2012? Was there anything here that surprised you? I can’t wait to read your thoughts in the comments section below.

that bright yellow is too much for most interiors…………. it's better as a bathing suit or summer clothing accessory fling!

Love the turquoise, azure blues against the lighter soft neutrals of creams and tans – I re-decorated my living room last summer in these colors, also adding mango orange and lime green as accent colors with the turquoise, against a background of all offwhite/cream upholstery and light woods – it is my favorite room of all times!
