Last week, I shared photos of my embarrassingly bare bedroom. (Remember that mattress on the floor? I certainly do.)  Since sprucing it up is our first real project, I’ve spent hours upon hours this week holding up paint chips and scouring Pinterest for THE perfect shades. Besides getting a really great arm workout (fan decks can get mighty heavy…), I’ve managed to narrow the field down to two possible palettes.

Our master bathroom has ’50s-era aqua tile that’s not going anywhere anytime soon, so I wanted to incorporate that color into the bedroom palette to create a cohesive look. Overall, I”m looking for a modern natural feel, with flashes of bright colors alongside more muted hues. Which do you prefer?

Palette 1: Energetic Greens
I’m a little obsessed with yellow, so it’s not surprising that this look-at-me hue made into one of my palettes as an accent color. Chartreuse and aqua give this look a vintage feel, while warm neutrals keep it feeling modern.

Palette 2:  Tangerine Dreams
Tangerine  (Pantone’s color of the year!) and aqua are color wheel opposites, but they’re a classic combination. I love the idea of bringing in a bright orange, vintage leather chair as an accent piece. Soft mocha paint (or a subtly-patterned wallpaper) would make the walls warm and inviting.

I think aqua would look great on the walls with accents of yellow and tangerine. My guest room has aqua walls and it's such a cheery room and you can put so many colors with it.

  3. CplusE says:

I'm voting for tangerine, but it's a tough choice, as both are appealing!

  4. ash says:

i like both, but i would go with #1 has more of a bedroom feel for me

  5. Brenda Nelson says:

A bedroom should be relaxing. I'd go with the first with a heavy emphasis on the cooler shades

  6. Rhonda says:

    The tangerine!

  7. Carolyn Rathbun says:

    tangerine. I love that look.

  13. francine therrien says:

    I prefer . number 2 ..cool colours

  14. Marci says:

Definitely the tangerine palette. It is cheery and likely to inspire more creativity in the brain than the first one. The aqua and the taupe balance it off nicely.

  15. Tammy says:

    Tangerine for sure!

  16. widget says:

    tangerine

  17. CSetterq says:

I love both pallettes! But for a bedroom, I would go with the yellows over the tangerines. It is bright and light with a nice feel. I love contrasting colors, but complimenteary color such as the yellow and aqua is really sweet =)

  18. beverly says:

Tangerine dreams are yummy!!!! Cool blue and warm orange… great combo! (my bedroom has similar colors)

  19. kitty2 says:

    palette 2 is my choice.

  20. Teresa says:

I mixed the aqua, gray, and a cross between the tangerine & peach in our guest bedroom, with loads of white accent. It's refreshing without being energizing.

  21. CHARLOTTE DYKES says:

I LOVE THE LAST ONE THE LIGHT PURPLE SO MUCH GOES WITH THAT THANKS

  22. KAT says:

The tangerine color palet for sure!

  23. Helen says:

#1 for a bedroom. The tangerine is too bright. Keep it restful. Besides, #1 is prettier.

  24. Aggie says:

    I like #1 & #4 but would go with #1 for bedroom

  25. Dor says:

    Tangerine

I also like yellow, but maybe not quite that dark, and other accent colors like teal. At this point in my life, I need sunshine around me with colors from the deep sea to compliment it. I would say, go for whatever makes you feel good!!

  26. ScampiMom says:

#1 includes the greens you really seemed to like in your inspiration pictures before. Go for that.

  27. RuthieWW says:

I like the aquas……ditto for it being more relaxing for a bedroom!

  28. menemec says:

Palette #2 Very bold and modern. And it is a bedroom, do you want sunshine and happy or HOT and happy?

  29. Ruby L says:

Love them both but I think #1 is more tranquil.

  30. Wanda says:

Palette 2 with the softer colors as the main choice for wall, ceiling, windows and floor the brighter colors can add the pop needed to bring cheer to the room.

  31. Linda says:

    Tangerine

  32. tammiesgarden says:

I like the tangerine. I sleep in my room. I like to relax and unwind. The yellow and aqua scream, "jump up and get going." Great for the other parts of the house, but not for the bedroom. I really don't care for that shade of yellow. To me, if that color had a personality, it would be like a whiny child. I have two rooms in my downstairs that are yellow, but mine are are yellow with a golden faux overlay. Feels warm and cozier.

  33. wanda hoots says:

Strongly prefer #1 and love the bedcovers and pillows. Don't care fot the flesh color with this .

  34. Davonna Dicks says:

Everyone does the colors in #1 so go with #2! Plus the colors are amazing!!

  35. diana says:

I think tangerine would be nice, but have seen alot of brown and tan with aqua and it looks awesome, very beachy and natural.

  36. Gail says:

The yellow. Don't care for the flesh color with it. Really don't care for yellow or tangerine for a bedroom, but of the Twp, yellow.

  37. jane1964 says:

I think the blue is the best color because the other colors are too strong to be wall colors… and the other colors go well with this blue… i like it…

  38. Angela Phillips says:

If you have aqua tiles then you may want a Peach color to balance it with.

  39. Alice says:

I like the freshness of tangerine. Seems like spring and summer and you would wake up alive and ready to go. Some yellows just look too grey in the wrong light.

  40. joy rueda says:

palette # is more calm and relaxing with yellow bringing a burst of sunshine into the bedroom :)

  41. tina rn says:

    #2 tangerine !!

  42. Patty says:

Definitely the energetic greens, more soothing for a bedroom. Love the tangerine, could be great for an outdoor patio, warm and lively.

  43. toni says:

love both but the first one would be more relaxing and the second one more energizing…depends what you are going to be doing in there! :)

  44. Megan says:

I think aqua is so soothing!

  45. HGTV24/7 says:

Tangerine and when you are tired of that then switch it to #1. After all, it's only paint and bed linens!

  46. lynn says:

For sure the aqua, it is so much more calming and relaxing for a bedroom.

  47. Marg says:

Bedroom you better stay away from tangerine! My vote is Pallete 1 fifth down…just I'd my kitchen & great room that shade of yellow!

  48. bonnie lee says:

The names that you gave each choice would be my first indication. Tangerine dreams sounds happy. Also the first color choice weighs heavy with that wet clay color. You will never see that over here. I think it ruins it for the rest of the colors……………. The #2 palette is luscious

  49. Sandta says:

The yellow and aqua for sure, much more soothing in a bedroom

  50. chipie63 says:

Palette 2 is my vote! Fun and frolic is what those colors bring to mind!
