Last week, I shared photos of my embarrassingly bare bedroom. (Remember that mattress on the floor? I certainly do.)  Since sprucing it up is our first real project, I’ve spent hours upon hours this week holding up paint chips and scouring Pinterest for THE perfect shades. Besides getting a really great arm workout (fan decks can get mighty heavy…), I’ve managed to narrow the field down to two possible palettes.

Our master bathroom has ’50s-era aqua tile that’s not going anywhere anytime soon, so I wanted to incorporate that color into the bedroom palette to create a cohesive look. Overall, I”m looking for a modern natural feel, with flashes of bright colors alongside more muted hues. Which do you prefer?

Palette 1: Energetic Greens
I’m a little obsessed with yellow, so it’s not surprising that this look-at-me hue made into one of my palettes as an accent color. Chartreuse and aqua give this look a vintage feel, while warm neutrals keep it feeling modern.

Palette 2:  Tangerine Dreams
Tangerine  (Pantone’s color of the year!) and aqua are color wheel opposites, but they’re a classic combination. I love the idea of bringing in a bright orange, vintage leather chair as an accent piece. Soft mocha paint (or a subtly-patterned wallpaper) would make the walls warm and inviting.

    Absolutely Tangerine Dreams!!!!!!
You can go with the warmer color and then add the blue for some pop!!!!
It is just a Beautiful combo!!!!

  2. Joyce says:

    I like #1 for a bedroom.

  3. Katharine says:

    Totally Tangerine Dreams

  4. Stacey says:

Personally I think you use parts of both. The blue-green color is very similar in both palettes. If you use that or a color in that family for the walls, use the cream/tan color for the base bedding then the yellows and tangerines can work together as the pop of color.

I like the second post better, it's warm and inviting. But it's bold and edgy as well. Karen Smith.

  6. Lori says:

    Tangerine. It's fresh!

  7. Chelsea says:

    The first palette!

  8. Trang says:

    Tangerine

  9. TanyaRK says:

Neither….but If I had to pick one, I'd go with #1 and pick the 4th colour for your walls and drop the 3rd colour all together from the pallette and pick up some of that tangarine/red from the other pallette….just my opinion:0)

  10. LoyEllen says:

Not into these shades. I am still into pastels….love pinks, greens, mauves and ivories.

  11. Mammy125 says:

I think the tangerine would give it some energy and against the white trim would also feel warm and relaxing.

  12. Laura says:

    Tangerine

  13. Kelly says:

Love both, but going with #1.

  14. Beverly says:

Palette #1 for me…it's a more restful color scheme.

  15. Kim says:

I would go with number 1 as it is more soothing and a bedroom needs to be that. But I LOVE the 2nd choice (even tho I usually don't like orange shades) for another space in your home….

  16. jen says:

I like the second option! Relaxing and energizing at the same time…..I wish I was brave enough to try it;)

  17. Liz says:

I like palette 1 – yellow and aqua!

  18. Lynn says:

I'm going with number 1. Love them both, but the tangerine scheme is a bit to energetic for a bedroom (in my humble opinion).

  19. Karen says:

I like the first one. Although not a big fan of yellow I love the other colors. # 2 does not lood restful to me

  20. nina says:

    #2,more relaxing

  21. Julie says:

    Tangerine for sure!

  22. Erica says:

    Energetic greens!

  23. Paige says:

You say palette one is about green but I see neutral and bright yellow…. maybe the pictures don't do justice to the palette choice. I vote for #2 but without an example its hard to compare.

  24. Jan says:

    Aqua with Tangerine accessories.

  25. Cheryl Davis says:

I choose palette number one. I like restful bedrooms. The tangerine palette is too bright.

  26. Meg825 says:

    I like option #1

  27. Anne Taylor says:

I love the aqua & tangerine. I would keep use the tangering & aqua as accent colors & the other two as the main colors! i spend alot of time in my bedroom. I want it to be relaxing as well as fun!

  28. Shirley says:

    Tangerine Dreams! Bright and exciting!

  29. Heather says:

The tangerine color palette for sure in a bedroom. It's much more soothing.

  30. Shelby says:

    Go for the tangerine.

  31. Patty says:

    Palette 2: Tangerine Dreams

  32. LeslieCoblentz says:

I must say I like both pallets tangerine has been my latest fave decorating color but I'm in love with the 1st color pallet for a bedroom…. My vote definatly goes to #1!

  33. mary juszczak says:

I like the clay color the best from both palettes.

  34. Row says:

One feels more restful and relaxing so more suitable to a bedroom.

  35. Julie says:

    # 2 absolutely! So many more options and will not tire of it so quickly.

  36. Joyce says:

I pick the turquoise or lighter aqua wit peach accents; but not the real bright orange, of course I would choose these colors since they are my favorite. Joyce

  37. judy h. says:

I like the tangerine, if that is the reddish orange shade. I love it.

  38. trish says:

palette 2 with either of the end colors for the walls-the oranges only in accessories…
if you choose palette 1 I would have to say gray walls-the yellow and chartreuse as accents with the aqua as
    bedding…

  39. peg5 says:

palette 1 is classic, soft, relaxed and comfortable. palette 2 is modern, energetic, rich and vivid. so it depends on what dynamic you are looking for in your bedroom.

  40. Jessica Bradley says:

My vote is for "Energetic Greens" – but really, I'm voting for yellow. I think there is something so refreshing about waking up to bright, sunshine yellow!

  41. The zesty lime with grey and turquoise accents gets our vote. It's a growing trend, especially for resort markets and vacation homes. More clients are asking for it than ever!!

  42. Lisa says:

I also love both pallettes. But I believe a bedroom should be calm and serene and the tangerine is the opposite of that (I'd use that pallette in the kitchen or maybe a family/game room).

  43. Heidi says:

Love both schemes, but I have to choose the first, just because it's a bit more sleepy. I like to sleep in my bedroom! :) The Coastal Living pillows are great!

  44. Linda-bob says:

I vote for #1. It gives a fresh twist to the 70's aqua. No.2 is too similar to the true 70's look which doesn't
feel new or fresh or inviting.
