My grandmother had a homemade growth chart for me on the back of the door that led down to her basement. Of course, she’s 4′ 11″ and I topped out at 5′ 3″, so it’s not a terribly big chart, but I always thought it would be nice to have something a little more…official looking than scratchy pen and pencil marks. When I spotted Dear Lillie’s Oversized Ruler Growth Chart, I thought, Yes, that’s more like it!

The chart has a nice handmade feel — it’s hand-stained and hand-stenciled — and as the product description wisely points out, “you can even take it with you when you move!” (I didn’t really think about it, but that’s a good point. If my gram ever moved, I’d want her to take the basement door with her. Not super practical.) I actually like the style of it so much, I’d consider buying one even though I don’t have any kids. And I bet it’d look killer in a classroom. Just saying.

That's funny that the growth chart is posted because my husband and I were talking about measuring our two small children against their bedroom doors so they could monitor their progress through the years. This is awesome and actually looks great. It would also be quite practical in a classroom!!

  4. I love the ruler for decor, but nothing beats pencil marks on the wall for being real in your life and keeping track of moments. Life is not a decor choice, just like literature is not a design element.

@bluelittlegirl design and decor are about making life easier and more enjoyable. This ruler does both. Life is about living, but why not live easy and enjoy it with great design?

10 years ago I remarried & moved into my husband's home. I could take many happy memories with me and leave all the sad moments behind. Unfortunately I couldn't take the pencil, marker and crayon slashes on the kitchen door frame that marked the growth of each of my 3 children. Not only were their names & pertinent numbers written there, but a happy memory from the past year & their hope for the coming year. I'll be ordering this ruler to track my grandbabies growth so no matter where our life takes us next this piece of family history can travel with us.

We've had to move twice since our kids were little. It broke my heart to leave that doorjam behind. If we had been smart enough to do it on the actual door it would have come with us. What a wonderful idea… the decals are OK, but I have a small home, and I wouldn't want a cheesy decal visible. But this… great idea!!!
