May is Home Improvement Month, and since improving your home doesn’t have to mean tearing down a wall or installing new countertops, I thought I’d share a very simple update you can make to your home. If you have dark walls then your white power outlets are probably too noticeable for your own liking. Emily from Jones Design Company found a great solution that only requires some decorative scrapbook paper, Mod Podge, scissors and a sponge brush. So if you can glue paper, this project is for you. You can check out her blog for the complete tutorial. What other decoupage projects would you like to try in your home? Tell us in the comments below.

Love it. Nothing is more boring then solid color, specifically beige or white, switch plates! I can't think of anything else that I would want to decoupage that would be appropriate…a toilet set could be funny and a throw back to the floral / patterned toilet seats of the 60's &70's.

It's so strange to hear people complain because thier bathrooms aren't livable. I have to have the smallest most undesirable bathroom in the country and I live in it everyday. We've all become spoiled by what we see on television as must haves. As the world becomes more and more financially strapped we are going to find out that sometimes a little paint and small touches are all we can afford and they make a big difference.

At last!!!! Forget the granite, stainless steel, etc. There are great kits out there to do existing counter tops to look as good as any expensive natural stone.
What's wrong with white appliances. Add color via walls or even towels, table cloths and maybe new hardware!!!! You can have a room that is truly "you".

I find it odd that one would complain about living in their bathroom also. I don't LIVE in my bathroom. I eject waste in it. I clean various parts of my body in it.

I've always needed to decorate on a (very tight) budget. Fancy outlet covers can be very expensive so I have always used the regular cheap outlet covers and decorated them. Just the other day I decoupaged a leopard print tissue paper onto a couple of them. You can also spray paint, paint a design, cover them with contact paper, wallpaper, decorative duct tape, draw on them, glue embellishments to them. You can make them either stand out or blend in with the wall. The possibilites are only limited by your imagination.

Very cool Ideas! I found a great place on ebay that sells switch covers and outlet covers in hard to find sizes called Luna Gallery Switch Plates. I ordered enough to do one room so far and it looks great. it made such a big difference from the plain bright white "sore thumb" plates on my dark painted walls. http://stores.ebay.com/Luna-Gallery-Switch-Plates
