As the holiday draws to a close and the charcoal briquettes from your barbecue turn into smoldering embers, you’ll probably be left with some plastic soda bottles. Do not throw them away! I repeat, do not throw them away. At least not without seeing what crafty things you can do with the humble vessels first…

I’d love to take on these hanging planters found via Poppytalk. With flowers this pretty, no one will notice that they’re suspended in soda bottles. And if they do, they’ll just congratulate you for your ingenuity. Love how the caps match one of the blooms, too.
If planters are your thing but you like them sitting on sills and surfaces instead, check out these self-watering soda bottle planters from Skruben. They look so easy to make, even I could attempt them and did someone say SELF-WATERING? Bonus! (Soda bottles also make great terrariums, as seen on Juggling with Kids.)
Warm weather means all of our feathered friends should be returning. Invite them back to your yard with a soda bottle birdhouse like this one from Heidi Borchers via favecrafts. The welcome sign is a perfect touch.

I like your ideas with plastic bottles, but in Germany, we give them back to the shop. You get 25 Cent/each back, if you bring them back. So we dont work with them….
Oh, that's interesting. We have some recycling incentives like that here in the States, but they differ from state to state and usually require you to take all the bottles and cans to a deposit/recycling center to get the cash back, which can be tricky if there's not one nearby.
