Ahh, duct tape. The favored material for MacGyver-style fixes at home also has a rich history of military use and even space flight repairs. (It saved the lives of the Apollo 13 crew, according to Wikipedia. Was that in the movie?!). But as often as it is praised by handymen, it tends to be ignored by crafters. To be fair, the grey rolls can come across as dull and industrial. So, my mission today is to find actually-cute duct tape crafts you can fashion from this wonder adhesive.

duct tape table

This chic bridal shower spread from Green Wedding Shoes owes its stripes to silver duct tape applied to a $10 white tablecloth. Nothing like a stylish money-saver, especially right before a pricey wedding!

duct tape flowers

This duct tape flower by Joy Kelley of HowJoyful.com is the perfect addition to any plain object you want to embellish. Joy crafted the bloom to perk up a desk organizer, but I think it would add a little something to mirrors, frames or gift-wrapped boxes. Plus, as Joy points out, it’s super-easy to dust or wash, which makes it pretty and practical. Head to her site to get all the instructions.

duct tape flags

Duct tape flags practically scream “outdoor tailgate party” to me. And no man could argue with a banner made from such tough stuff. Pick your favorite team’s colors for added allegiance. Duck® brand tape has tons of options — and this handy-dandy tutorial.

duct tape chair

One piece of duct tape on a chair says, “There is a hole on this chair.” But hundreds of strips of colorful duct tape add up to a work of art. Davy Rigsby from The Davy Boat patched this find together, and says it’s a real conversation piece. Super-cool for kids’ rooms!

duct tape wall art

Speaking of kids’ rooms, this duct tape wall art on EmmiGrace and Me is so striking, no? It functions as an attractive decoration on its own, or it can be used as a board for kids to tape up their own creations without damaging the wall. Brilliant!
