Yard sales, flea markets — your very own drawers and cupboards: brass candlesticks can be found just about anywhere at anytime. They are boring. Bo-ring!
But, look at how you can turn those brassy messes into something unique and colorful. Spray paint those babies! For a cool, cohesive look, try matching candles to the candlestick colors.

Before ::: After
HGTV Magazine gives you the simple how-tos.

Very cool, but where do you find candlesticks in colors like that? I would love the source. Thanks!
They painted them. That photo is "Before" and "After." They're meant to be the example of what you can do with plain old brass.
She really can't be THAT stupid can she?
I'm guessing she meant the candles and not the candlesticks. No need to call anyone stupid.
I believe she's asking about the candles.
Doesn't take a whole big bunch of intelligence to figure out that she meant the CANDLES, now does it?
You can find different candle colors at Hobby Lobby. The candle sticks are brass, not the candles!
Jeanette.
Fabulous candlesticks they will make a great conversation piece in my living room
Ahh, a good ol' can of spray paint. Love the way this looks.
Thanks for the 'how to' in the link. This looks very easy and I'm going to dig out my old candlesticks and do it!
Have way too many brass ones around here. Will try the paint.

Like this idea and will try painting the candlesticks. You can buy them very cheaply.
This is so lame, so stupid so let's call this 'hillbilly chic'? They look like old brass candlesticks that actually are painted! Arrrggg.
You must be a miserable person Lyn, to be so negative and ridiculous on a decorating blog. You need to get a life. You really can't be THAT ugly and hateful, can you?
Easy on the brass! Painting over looks a little trashy! Put the brass on a mirror at holiday time mixed with silver! If you want color by glass candlesticks and spray paint. Cleaner finish.
First time on here and you people are mean spirited. Please practice some kindness !
I am a tradtional decorator and I like the brass, I think they are beautiful . they may not work for a very modern look, but will work in most cases.
They would look amazing painted black! Very Halloween- ish….or just mod retro.
Great idea! They would look awesome in black with orange and purple candles!
Spray paint them silver for an updated modern look. We recently did that on a "flea market flip" of an old night stand. It was a much older wooden piece with not much style to it and old bronzy looking hardware. We actually found it at the curb waiting to be crushed up in the garbage truck. We painted the piece white and spray painted the hardware silver. Turned out beautiful! Sold it at our yard sale within the first half hour we were open.
Thanks for the great idea. Don't understand some of these people's comments. I have a very old brass unbrella stand that I use outdoors for flowers on my porch. I wanted to paint it, but wasn't sure how…I did spray paint it with clear so the green wouldn't run down the sides. Looks pretty good. Wonder if I could paint it gold…now I know!! Thanks.
