Readers: I have a confession to make. Sometimes our Color of the Month meetings get a little…heated. It turns out that when you get a group of people together, all of them passionate about design and boasting a wide spectrum of style preferences, there are a lot of opinions worth discussing. And oh, do we ever discuss them.

Here we are in September, school is back in session and the first whiff of fall is in the air. And for the crack team of editors here at Design Happens, that means any number of things color-wise. It’s not quite full-on fall yet, so traditional autumnal colors don’t feel right. Pastels, neons, aquatic blues? Eh, too spring/summer. And so, do you know what color ended up being pitched in a record SIX different shades? Green. Everything from verdigris to citron to kelly, we were all fired up about Kermit’s favorite hue. After a lot (and I mean a lot) of discussion, we finally settled on our winner: Emerald Green.

Farima was the big winner this month, after pitching her Emerald Green Pinterest board almost every month since last January (see what I mean about passionate?). Finally this gorgeous color felt just right—it’s a moody, deep green with a hint of blue undertones and it makes an amazing impact when used in decorating. Farima has this to say: “Vibrant and rich are the first words that come to mind when I see a space decorated with emerald green. Even though it’s a very trendy color right now, the jewel tone also brings a timeless look when paired with metallics and other rich colors. It’s a great shade to transition from summer to fall.”

URGH! Beautiful color on a dress but NOT for dressing a wall. Certainly in the bedroom shot, the color shows how clutter and over decorared the room is. This color os something I would cringe should I walk into a house up for sale.

  7. Renae says:

I think it's a classy color and I love it.

  8. Dawn says:

Love the colot too much on a wall for me personally I like it understated:p

  9. Marie says:

not for this girl. Ugly when there is so much of it.

  10. Liz says:

Very beautiful. I would put this color on a wall that had white trim and white crown moldings. It is such a dark color so pairing it with white trim would be a very pretty combination.

  11. Deb says:

Looks like winter to me. Not a good wall color at. Would be the first thing I would change if moving into this house.

  12. Mom says:

my first thought was ewww! it's just such a blaring color; in small amounts it's great but not on a full wall

  13. Kim says:

ugh…NO, that dark of a color is depressing

  14. Ruth says:

I love the color but too much on this wall.I would feel like I'm in OZ.Would be beautiful for accents though.

  15. Karen says:

I realize trends go in cycles, but I think this color scheme is old-fashioned. It reminds me too much of the early 90's when this color … along with plum & navy were the *in* colors of the moment.

  16. zulma olmo says:

Not for me. It is such a dark color, and when there is so much of it sorryyyyyyyyyyy :(

  18. Amy Frost says:

Green is my favorite color, however, that deep green on all four walls…is just too much. A green room should be calming. These rooms scream GREEN! Green is a tricky color. Sometimes just hint or medium shade of green is best. If they had used medium olive or sage green it would have been more appealing.

  19. Mary Lou says:

Leave it in the can for some other project. Makes a room look hard! Wouldn't be bad in a carpet though.

  20. Terri says:

Would be Ok in a sun room, but I would not like it long term. So I'll say No on the color.

  21. Bonnie says:

nooooo …I did cringe as soon as I looked at it. small doses of it maybe but that is way too much for any room!

  22. Jane says:

Would love this in a woodsy bedroom or family room…

  23. I think I am going to have to leave it. It is too dark for painting a room. Not a big green fan anyway.

  24. Decodiva says:

Not real crazy about how it looks on the walls. also do not like the decor with it.

  25. Joyce Price says:

Think I will LEAVE this one….

  26. Kathleen says:

Leave it! Looks too 80s country! :(

  27. sandy says:

Green is my favorite color but not that color and not on the walls. Too much, too over powering.

  28. cindy says:

    Not my thing

  29. Peggy Brock says:

I love this. I painted my living room and hallway this color and painted crown moldings, baseboards and doors white around 1994. I Ioved it so much I repainted it the same color a couple of years ago. I get a lot of great compliments on it.

  30. Penny Gorgei says:

Too dark, unless your room is large and your ceilings are high….sadly mine are not!

  31. Judy says:

too much!!!! One wall would have been fine.

  32. Ash says:

i like it. i think i would like it more if it were used as an accent color and not on all four walls

  33. gina says:

LOVE emerald green!!!! Not a fan of some of furniture picks but LOOOOVVVEE the green

  34. Sylvia says:

No, no, no! It hurts my eyes to look at this color!

  35. Maria Lako says:

Love it green my favorite color

  36. Janet says:

Ugly! Makes me think of leprachauns (sp).

Hello everyone! I agree with most of the comments here about the walls being way too green! But what about a hint of this color? It is pretty cool, after all! I was thinking carpets and rugs. Let me know what you think of this website: http://www.rugs-direct.com/Shop/Navigate/?searcht

  40. trish says:

The 80's are back….all they need is mauve wall to wall carpeting!

  41. Sandra says:

Uck, not for me. As the previous people said, if I walked into a house to buy with that on the wall, it would be gone first thing. I realize your designers are trying new things, but for the average person it was way off base. Sorry.
