Update 10/15/12:  Congratulations to this month’s winner, Donna, who says she likes to make her Halloween decorations “as scary as skeletons, but my 4-year-old twins have always been around those at Halloween time so they don’t see them as scary.” Congratulations, Donna! Check back next month for another great freebie.

There are two types of Halloween folk: The ones who deck their yard out in fake blood, life-sized zombies and motion-activated vampires and the ones who stick to jolly pumpkins and mildly creepy ghosts.

Since I can’t watch a horror movie without developing a new irrational fear, you can probably guess which camp I fall into. But whether you go for the blood and guts or would rather keep it PG, you’ll love this month’s giveaway: a collection of outdoor Halloween decorations from Grandin Road.

Halloween Reversible Pumpkin - Grandin Road
First on the giveaway list: This creepy animated pumpkin. Sure, it looks innocent enough, but flip on the switch and it turns “evil” — complete with a diabolical laugh — when unsuspecting folks walk by.

Halloween Ghost From Grandin Road
With your pumpkin decorations taken care of,  we’re also throwing in another Halloween essential: a gauzy ghost.  Lights inside this life-sized model add ambiance to your yard at night.

Halloween Skeleton

And finally, you can’t have a Halloween party without a resident skeleton. Hang him from the ceiling, prop him up in a chair or send him outside to greet the neighbors.

How scary do you go with your Halloween decorations? Leave a comment below to enter for a chance to win this spooky prize.

You may only comment once to be considered, and you don’t have to purchase anything to win; a purchase will not increase your chances of winning. Odds depend on total number of entries. Void where prohibited by law. Only open to legal residents of 50 U.S., D.C. or Puerto Rico, and you must be at least 18 years of age to win. All entries (comments) must be entered between 9:00 a.m. ET on October 5, 2012 and 12:00 p.m. ET on October 8, 2012. Subject to full official rules. Our family has a huge Halloween Party every year…over 100 people…alot of our decorations have come from Grandin Road…everyone asks..where do you find these awesome decorations…and spill my secret about Halloween Haven at Grandin Road……waiting for the dueling banjos to arrive next, I cant wait …
we made a 8 ft barn house prop for the backdrop…We love to pose a skeleton in our front graveyard ! :)

  3. Joanne says:

Like a little of both, since in front of the house not too scary-gory, but not too PG cutey either, some where in the middle is what i like…;-)

  4. Peggy Tucker says:

I like it spooky but not bloody. Lots of cemetery items, crows, bats, potions!

  7. Tamster48 says:

I absolutely love halloween! I think I like it more than christmas. I decorate the inside and outside. I like the scare factor not so much the blood and gore but the unexpected jumping spider or making props that lunge at you. Lighting is a huge factor in setting the mood. I like to build things, coffins, tombstones and cave with skeleton, my lastest a 13 ft gothic reaper. Just have sounds in the cementary and flashing thunder lights and never forget the fogging cauldron with flying witches.

With our new place this year I really want to go ALL out! We are finally in a place we can host trick-or-treaters! Now since we share a faily large front porch with a neighbor (picture a brownstone style covered porch), we want to combine efforts to see how spooky of a experience we can create. We have a great pathway that will be the entrance to a grave yard, our steps up to the porch allows for hidden suprises and because of the style of the porch, it will be head to toe spider webs and spooky lights and who knows what else. Now this is just my vision, now to make it happen. Hmmmmm……

  9. Rosemary Tebben says:

I'm not sure this year..but since I have the dueling banjo skeletons, the morphing floating ghost, the scarecrow, and Dearly Departed couple, I guess I am scarier than I thought. I love to decorate for Halloween…and people love to come to my house to see it. My grandchildren love it too! I sometimes think I should charge admission! And that is due to all the cool stuff I get from Grandin Road!

  10. sara pal says:

Not too scary, some scary-looking carved pumpkins, scarecrows, lights to illuminate the front yard

  11. Richard says:

I like Tim Burton/Addams Family-type CREEPY over super scary. These decorations are awesome! Thanks for the chance to win!

  12. 4Grammy says:

Now that the neighborhood kids are in elementary school, I would love to put a ghost on our lantern post by the end of the driveway. So far this year I've put a pumpkin and mum plant by the post and a big mum plant on the top of my front steps.

  13. Katsuar says:

This year I will be doing a display in my picture window with my witch that I purchased from Grandin Road, going to set up a spooky scene with spiders, black cat, cauldron, witches broom lights and all the fun things so people will slow down to look at our home.. We also do graveyard scene.. I looove to decorate!!!

Not very scary…but I still remember a cool one from childhood – a neighbor put her candy in a pumpkin that also had dry ice in it…you picked the candy from the smoke.

  20. All that makes you... says:

I do whimsical. We put the Grandin Road skeleton in golf clothes and sun visor and put him in a golf cart like he is doing donuts in the yard. I have a silly witches shop on a porch with a motion sensor head in a caldron that sings, "I ain't got no BODY" and just silly things out. I don't want little kids to be afraid to come to my door trick or treating. If they don't come to my door then the bush with the motion sensor wont growl and shake and give me something to laugh about when they are running down the driveway. ;) Abbie Gale allthatmakesyou.com I have lots of pictures. He he he!

  21. Darlene says:

Darlene — Not very scary — want my grandkids to enjoy it.

  22. Vrandie says:

I love decorating for Halloween! I love winning free stuff too! Maybe I can have the best of both worlds! Crossing my fingers…!!

  23. Jeff Gilbert says:

We decorate the entire house and yard enough to scare, but nothing too gory!

  24. @ash_fee says:

We don't have many kids or trick-or-treaters around my house so we do the mild decorations. If we had the yard, time and budget, I'd love to go all out one year.
    And those decorations are neat!

  25. April LaMontagne says:

I like scary decorations! We usually do haunted house every halloween so I dont have any decore for my house.

  26. Penny Jinright says:

This year we're going from cute to gory and all things in between. Our theme this year is a haunted carnival. So far we've built a, nearly, life-sized carousel and a wrecked roller coaster. And our food court boast bloody popcorn with eyeballs and fingers. This was accomplished using popcorn containers and expand-a-foam.

  27. dian says:

I'm not scared a bit during Halloween season – but I like to decorate inside and outside of the home in the scariest way!!! I put ghosts, vampires, graveyard with zombies, talking skeletons, pumpkins and more all over the front yard. On Halloween night, parents always stop to take pictures of my items with their little children. I wish they could see the inside of the house, decorated with animated life-size figures, tableclothes, hanging witches, etc. I know I go overboard decorating for Halloween, but I'm addicted to Grandin Road's wonderful Halloween items!!!!!!!

  28. Deb says:

Never thought of a light under the ghost. Great idea! I wonder what I would use for fake blood. Absolutely love Halloween decorating! Thanks for the contest!

  29. Telesis Schnorr says:

hocus pocus meets /haunting scary :)

  30. Jennifer says:

I love the red couch in the last photo! Can I please win that instead?!?!

  31. JerseyGals31 says:

We do classy scarey not bloody scarey. I hang wripped cheese cloth all around dining rm & living rm as well as out the windows. Black crows, spiders, black feather boas, glitter skulls & lots of candles. We love Halloween!

  32. Chrissy Gilbert says:

I love to decorate for Halloween! I do the entire house and yard scary and creepy… a little, but not too much gore!

  33. Michelle says:

I have built on my decorations for years. I like spooky scary. The kind that scares kids just a little. I have different themes I have built upon such as making my family room look as though a witch lives here. My dining room doubles as a dining room/ library with various spooky books and candelabras and the living room is a spooky scene with skeletons. On the outside we have a cementery, as well as spooky porch decor and a driveway lined with lights. We also hang orange icicle lights. One of my favorites is my back porch which I can see at night while I am watching Hocus Pocus or another Halloween favorite, which has all of our
Jack- o-lanterns that we carve and this year will have a new addition of Grandin Road's spooky black tree!

  34. Christina says:

OH the things I could do to my house and yard with awesome Halloween Decorations!!! My kids would LOVE these!!

  35. Lee says:

Not too scary…little kids in the neighborhood.

  36. ginny says:

for the past 13 years I have created a haunted garage/ yard and several of my haunts have been bought from Grandinroad! LOVE ALL THE HALLOWEEN STUFF!!!!

  37. Kathy Hanley says:

I take it a little bit scary and add some lights and music but not so scary that the little kids are afraid.

  38. Mary Wright says:

I take the middle road. Cute and pretty for the little kids and a bit creepy for the teenagers.

  39. Judy says:

    Love it all!!!!

  40. jeff says:

I like a little of both.

  41. Vicki DeAugustine says:

Love Halloween and decorations, usually love over the top……but, a single lit pumpkin in the dark can be quite spooky.

  42. Rachael says:

I don't do scary, just things like pumpkins & skeletons.

  43. Susan P. says:

I would use the decorations above outside! We usually go somewhere in the middle – not too scary but not just a pumpkin.

  44. Julie says:

If glitter is scary then you're going to love our place! Every year we throw a "Spooky Euchre" party. We start decorating Labor Day weekend. No blood and guts for us…..just spooky sophistication. From life size sparkly skeletons to pumpkins and witches galore. It's a fabulous way to celebrate Halloween – which is undeniably my favorite time of year. We've purchased so much of our stuff from Grandin Road we should probably have stock in the company! HAPPY HALLOWEEN everyone!!!

  45. Jules says:

I love Halloween now just as much as I did as a kid! We'll be decorating the house this weekend! Can't wait!

  46. Denise says:

We keep it light–minimally scary, mostly cheerful pumpkins and ghosts–because there are so many young children in our neighborhood.

  47. Rebecca Disher says:

I LOVE Halloween and I love vintage traditional level scary. I'm not one for gore or cutesie as it doesn't seem like Halloween to me. My home is decorated inside as well as out. It's a great start to the holidays a lot of fun for everyone. :)

  48. Cindy says:

Pretty mild around my house since I have two little ones. But the older they get the more the spookie decorations can get!!

  49. Kristen Ralls says:

We love scary, classic Halloween decorations…..witches, ghosts, skeletons, black cats, etc. We do, however, stay away from too much gore.

  50. Vivianna says:

Oh my gosh! I wanna' win!
