Interior designer Nate Berkus debuts The Nate Berkus Collection at Target, online and in stores, this month.
My favorite piece in Nate’s line is the lacquered tortoise shell. Nate’s inspiration for the look came from a real shell that his parents brought home from their honeymoon in Mexico. The souvenir always hung above the family’s fireplace — and, to Nate, shells have reminded him of home ever since.

What do you think? Are you intrigued by the shell, or are you — well, shell-shocked?

I love the lacquered shell–I will admit that I love the look of real tortoise shell, but feel too guilty to display one in my house (poor tortoises!). So this shiny faux shell is right up my alley.
Nate + Target = Happy.
That shell is very cool.
Most anything with Nate's name attached, I like.
I just bought one, day one! They were not even on the shelf yet! I am, of course, being a local designer, going to decorate it, paint, it, etc.

I first saw this piece last week featured in the December/ January 2013 issue of Country Living, as "Bargain of the Month" page 18. The description includes the wording "massively impressive scale". I immediately went to the Target site to order this for my 9 year old granddaughter who loves turtles and rescued several this summer, one from being run over by an excavator. Target's description is that the shell is 4' 1", which would have been perfect for over her bed. I was SO dissapointed when it arrived yesterday and measured 15"x19". Does anyone know if there is a larger size produced? I did a search last night but I can't afford to buy some of those I saw on other sites that were several hundred dollars. I would appreciate any help.
I hope the turtle is alright then.
