Being with family. and Grandchildren.. having turkey with all the trimmings,, then drawing names for secret santa.. and eating dessert.. we all love dessert with coffee, watching football and maybe a nap too.. it is such a wonderful time of the year..
It is not Thanksgiving (or any family gathering) without clam dip and chips!
My grandmother is English, so we have Roast and Yorkshire pudding with roasted Brussels sprouts for the day along with a little smoked turkey breast and cranberry sauce with my grandaddy's Southern cornbread dressing.
For our Thanksgiving tradition, I make the dinner (which I LOVE to do)! We then have a fun family evening of laughing and playing board games. We also pull names for our Christmas grabbag. The Saturday following Thanksgiving, we have a family tradition of making pierogies for Christmas. Mom plays Christmas music while we are making them, and my favorite Christmas songs are from Brenda Lee and B.E. Taylor. We LOVE to laugh and spend family time together!
A little Adam Sandler Turkey song on the way to Grandma's house for the usual turkey and my favorite….corn pudding!! YUMMMM!
Thanksgiving week in my family we go around the dinner room table and thank God for everything we are blessed with regarding family, divine health, joy and love throughout the day. Sharing the blessing with the family and the next generation children is important to talk about and pray that counting our blessing is vital to live. We sing gospel songs happy tunes and dancing with the friends and family and show love and kindness.
After the Thanksgiving feast with family/friends, we put up Christmas decorations. Then watch football, eat bourbon balls and sit by the fire.
I love this time of year! The leaves are changing colors, the weather is getting colder, and everyone just seems more joyful. I love the smells of Thanksgiving. You have the herb stuffed turkey in the oven, the butter/cream filled mashed potatoes, the hot fragrant apple cider sitting on the stove, and the sweet, cinnamon-y smell of pumpkin pie. Gathering around and eating a dinner that would warm anyone's tummy is the best feeling in the world.
Next to that, Black Friday shopping in the freezing cold adds to the excitement of the holiday season. Listening to the Christmas music, and seeing everyone out and about, hussling for the best holiday deals make the holidays the best time of the year.
Green bean casserole. Whether we have ham, turkey or spam…if we don't have green bean casserole, it's not Thanksgiving. (That's according to our daughter).
Thanksgiving is a wonderful time for our family. We all come together from far and wide to our small southern town with the most fabulous cooks. We plan for days. Of course the menu never changes, more the same, but this is tradition. We visit for days shopping, fishing and of course watch Auburn and Alabama football game. Some members Auburn grads and Alabama grad. This is a great day.
Thanksgiving is a great family day of celebration. We sit down to a traditional turkey dinner and after saying grace we always go around the table with each one of us expressing what we are thankful for in the last year.
We always kick the holiday season off by watching a classic Christmas movie such as "It's A Wonderful Life" or "Polar Express" on TV!
We run the Turkey Trot 5k, head back to the house and deep fry a turkey and then start a bonfire. It's even better when we've got friends over who can't make it out of town to visit their own families.
Mid-afternoon we move the furniture back, play Christmas tunes, and dance – young and old. My favorite Christmas song is White Christmas. The Twelve Days of Christmas is always fun because the younger children are excited to sing along. The most memorable tune is Rockin Around the Christmas Tree – the grandparents were excellent dancers, now that they are gone, we all share in honoring them with the dance.
Love having dinner with the family on Thanksgiving, its always a happy day. I am so thankful for my family.
After dinner walks/hikes in the southern Rockies where our home is located.
our family tradition is i have large fall leaf paper cutouts on the table with each person name on it under everyones plate… and i pass out pins, and after we have ate i clear the plates and everyone is to right something they r thankful for in that person..and puts the leaf in a big basket and as we have dessert the head of the table picks one out and reads the name and why that person is thankful for them……i use to have them write just thankful things but in todays times.. a person may need to hear how important they really are in this world and their families eye…. we lost our 16 year 4 years ago ..thats when we started this new tradition..times short , share the love and be grateful everyone for the ones u have near and let them know…have a blessed and thankful thankgiving everyone
Since its usually around my birthday we always have a birthday dessert for thanksgiving of my choice. Its usually home made chocolate cream pie. The dressing is also a big tradition we have mixed it up a few years with oyster dressing but we always go back to our families traditional recipe
We sit around our firepit in the backyard and listen to music.
My moms strawberry cake. She has been in Gods loving embrace now for al most 8 years. And although I can make it…it just is not the same.
My mom and I have gone shopping the day after Thanksgiving to get those ever popular toys since my daughter was small. We still go even though my daughter is now 22! It's just become a tradition and we just spend the day having fun and shopping.
Family, Sweet potato Casserole and Dallas Cowboy football is all you need for Thanksgiving! : }
We start our day with the Macy's Day parade followed by football. Our home is filled with the smell of all the Thanksgiving dinner being prepared. We always spend the day together as a family. After we enjoy our traditional family feast, we worked together to start putting up our Christmas tree. But nothing says the holidays by the love that is shared in our family.
1) Turkey ~ Of Course
2) Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer
3) Pass!! I only eat ~ don't cook
Christmas tree and outside decorations are a must for Thanksgiving Day in our house! Music that complements the season, yummy food, and the best part, family and friends!! We just love this season
We watch the thanksgiving prarde
My siblings and our families still get together for both Thanksgiving and Christmas even though our parents have passed away. Great food and fun. Family together is a blessing.
We go to our church's Thanksgiving service and then over to the relatives for cooking, football, and dinner, with a lot of laughter, gossip, and hugs thrown in!
Well, we often try new recipes at the holidays – this year my sister made Beets and Sweets for a new twist on our traditional sweet potatoes. A couple of years ago my brother tried chipotle sweet potatoes with cream – yum – so a new recipe has to live up to the previous year’s efforts to be considered a “keeper.” We have had nearly every type of turkey under the sun – stuffed turkey breasts, brined turkey (not good for gravy!), dressed and roasted turkey with numerous types of dressing and deep fried turkey – yuck! What doesn’t change much is the mashed spuds, gravy, ham with mustard sauce and pumpkin pie. I usually try something different with the cranberries as well ….
Family getting together with each other….everyone brings a dish for the meal…..sharing new recipes for the christmas cookie baking party in a few weeks and ending the day with full bellies and a board game
It's all about family, those that can be together and those who can't are all always in our hearts.
Lots of family, lots of food , football for the men and looking at sale papers planning our Friday shopping for the women.
What are your Thanksgiving traditions? Most times it reminds me of the movie Home for the Holidays, but we get past all our issues and enjoy cooking together to create a feast. Later that evening we all go to a movie as a family. So it's all worth it and new memories are always made each year.
Spending time with my family, especially my nephews. Always overeat and have tons of leftovers!
Would love to make this a center piece in our Holiday Traditions
Watch the thanksgiving parade
We ALWAYS have to have pumpkin roll! Can't have a holiday without! That and spending as much time with family as possible!
I could definately use this for the holiday get-togethers
To heck with the Turkey – Our holiday tradition centers around the Stuffing. It's cornbread style, full of rich spices and texture. DELICIOUS! We have a lot of fun coming up with strange new recipes for all the leftovers. This tray would look so lovely displaying our concoctions.
I started a new tradition 4 years ago for my family at Thanksgiving. Each person at the dinner table writes on a slip of paper what they are thankful for and puts them into my special " thankful bowl." ( It really is cute… it has a turkey on it and says ~ We are Thankful ) Anyway, After dinner we take turns drawing out of the bowl and reading the note. Then we try and guess who wrote it! I have kept all the notes of the past four years. It is sweet and sometimes funny to read them again. Happy Thanksgiving!
Turkey with all the trimmings. Hallelujah chorus. Mom Making flitch
Coming home seems to make clear the purpose of family, the love…the memories of the past and future converging into a single day. I adore traveling to my hometown of Indiana (PA). As this small town was the hometown of Jimmy Stewart, the theme of It's A Wonderful Life welcomes those of us that trek home and partake of Thanksgiving Eve's festivities. The crowning of "Queen Evergreen" (Indiana County was once known as The Christmas Tree Capital), the arrival of Santa atop the Courthouse, the horse-drawn sleigh rides, the bonfires set to roast the marshmallows, the atrium welcoming the children to frost cookies, engage in simple crafts, and to simply catch up with those friends, folks from our old neighborhoods, former classmates, not seen for years or those that have returned to their own families to take in the joy of the holiday season. Family, friends and the warmth of coming home.
We re-tell the story of the year my uncle hid my Grandma's pumpkin pies and placed two tiny rubber mice and some crumbs in the pans. Though Grandma was upset when she thought her pies were devoured by the mice, she was quickly able to laugh it off when he brought the pies out of hiding. She still laughs every year when we tell the story!
My children always come to my house for Thanksgiving dinner. Now that I am in my 70's, my oldest daughter is taking over and having everyone come to her house. Started out years ago with my grandmother, then my mother, then me, and now my daughter.
Cornbread Dressing is a must!!!
our thanksgiving traditions are simple: Blessings, Family (as many as we an fit) and lots of love (of course… I watch HGTV the whole time I am cooking)
We watch football, A Christmas Story and if possible, attend a Festival of Trees. Cornbread spoon bread, pumpkin pie and turkey are a must.
My family loves Thanksgiving because I break out my grandmas recipe for what I dubbed "pink fluff" when I was a child. It is a wonderful fluffy salad that goes so well with the traditional Thanksgiving fixins. Now I've got my inlaws craving it as well.
Every Christmas our local newspaper gives directions to all the house that are brightly decorated for the holiday. We pile into the car and map out where we're going. It's a fun and inexpensive way to enjoy the season with our family. We end up at a diner for dessert and hot chocolate!!!
We get the family all in one state with a huge Thanksgiving spread including coke classic in glass bottles! Then when we're stuffed, we sit aroung looking as black Friday sales ads and plan our shopping spree for early the next morning,
