My neighborhood grocery store has started to play Christmas carols, so the holiday season is officially on in my book. Have you started decking those halls yet? If not, I’ve got some ideas for you involving paper drinking straws. Yes, those stripey wonders that looked so chic in your summertime lemonade also work in the dead of winter! Check out these seasonable straw craft ideas and drink up the festive beauty.

drinking straw wreath

This starburst-shaped straw wreath from Paper Source’s P.S. Blog is very retro cool. And if you use red-striped straws like the example here, it almost looks like candy canes. How sweet is that?

straws christmas card

If you’re the kind of person who sends holiday cards, first of all, you impress me. Secondly, if you’re already sending cards, why not go the extra mile and make your own? These cute trees from A Creative Mint are sure to earn a coveted spot on the fridge or mantel from anyone who receives them.

straws garland

Speaking of mantels, this “strawburst” garland (get it?!) I spotted on Lemon Drop Shop would be perfect hanging over the hearth. Or you could drape some on your Christmas tree in lieu of the same old tinsel. It’s 2012, people. Shake things up!

straw tree topper

Alternately, you could shake things up with this straw star tree topper from Strumpets Crumpets. (The angel won’t mind sitting it out for one year.) Head to Becky’s site to get the instructions and see how that thing glitters on the tree.

drinking straw snowflakes

Are you dreaming of a white Christmas? How about a red & white Christmas? Centsational Girl’s straw snowflakes would be equally cute hanging in windows or jazzing up wrapped presents.

Which straw craft makes you want to drink in the holiday season? And do you have any craft material suggestions for me? Let me know in the comments below!
